Steven Wright: ‘We couldn’t figure out how this substance got into my body. But st the end of the day, it’s my responsibility...It falls on me.’ Wright says he can’t prove it was unintentional, so he accepts he has to serve suspension. Failed an offseason test and appealed.

From MLB: “Red Sox pitcher Steven Wright has received an 80-game suspension without pay after testing positive for Growth Hormone Releasing Peptide 2 (GHRP-2), a performance-enhancing substance, in violation of Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.”

Major League Baseball just announced Red Sox pitcher Steven Wright has received an 80-game suspension for use of a performance-enhancing substance.
Why? Ownership can afford it. I just don't understand all the handwringing about payroll when the owners are loaded and have gone above the tax threshold before. The make a killing of Sox merch, tix, NESN, etc. The Sox aren't the Sisters of the Poor.
The collusion was caused by the penalties imposed by the tax cap. They need to fix this in the next MLBPA negotiations and also install a salary floor for teams.
