  1. Campbell will get a second chance. I'm not sure it should happen during the playoffs though. I'm fine if they give him a bench spot next season after he's had a chance to heal and decompress.
  2. Most of these guys don't have enough history with the pitchers for the head to head sample to matter.
  3. BOSTON – Buck Showalter’s decision to replace his regulars early in a game against the Angels yesterday raised eyebrows in the Yankees’ clubhouse. If Showalter’s Rangers had beaten the Angels, the Yankees would have copped home-field advantage against the Angels in the ALDS that starts tomorrow night in Anaheim. But when the Yankees lost to the Red Sox, 10-1, and the Angels beat the Rangers, 7-4, the Yankees had no chance of hosting three games in the best-of-five ALDS. “I was surprised,” Joe Torre said. “I could see if his team was in the playoffs and he wanted to rest his players. I don’t understand that.” Alex Rodriguez, who played for Showalter in Texas, echoed Torre’s feelings. “He is the manager and has the right to do as he chooses,” A-Rod said. “There is a code of honor with so much on the line. But you can’t control what people do. It is what it is.” Conspiracy theory lovers believe Showalter, a former Yankee manager, was sticking it to George Steinbrenner by removing his regulars early. The Boss didn’t comment on the situation.
  4. Nah, the cutter, 4 seam and sinker are all too fast for Campbell to do damage on. Plus, I don't want Campbell's glove negatively affecting the game.
  5. I wondered about Masa hitting Fried ONLY because Fried has a reverse split and pitches worse against LHB.
  6. If Cora says to Chapman, will you be ready to close this out tonight, you know Chapman is going to be ready. He'd probably pitch all 3 games if he had to.
  7. Sox were underdogs at approx 33% chance to win, now at 62.4%. Yankees were given the highest likelihood of yesterday's losers to comeback after the game 1 loss.
  8. He wouldn't be in prospect lists anymore because he's graduated.
  9. It wasn't Showalter (92-95). Would have had to be Torre? They ended the season vs the Sox in 96 and 05. I couldn't find any quotes about Steinbrenner blowing up about it. In 05: The Yankees wrapped up another AL East title Saturday at Fenway Park. But New York's loss to Boston on Sunday cost the club home-field advantage in this series and sent the team trekking across the country. Steinbrenner repeatedly has expressed confidence in Torre. Asked this week through spokesman Howard Rubenstein what he had to say about the manager, the Boss declined to respond, with Rubenstein saying Steinbrenner was concentrating on the end of the season.
  10. No reason to hold back Chapman yesterday. No idea if they'll even need him tonight. Win the games you can win no matter what.
  11. He wasn't, but the Twins didn't want any of the Sox's offers. Sox would have had to go overboard to get Ryan. They offered Tolle, Abreu and more and didn't get it done.
  12. He wasn't going to be on the Red Sox unless they gave up Roman, Tolle, Early and Abreu.
  13. Career: 61 tOPS+, best against any team with more than 6 GS (Marlins, Rockies and Pirates had lower tOPS+ in small sample sizes) 2.35 ERA
  14. Unless he has a big lead or is cruising, probably need to pull him after 5. You got rested arms in the pen, use them.
  15. He's struggled down the stretch, but is a certifiable Yankee Killer. We'll see how tonight goes.
  16. Overall, he's a very good manager. We just see the moves that don't work out because we watch 162 games every year. Most of the other managers are far worse.
  17. I'm not sure he put the best lineup out there tonight. Fried has a reverse split and Cora just said "we're going with righties because that's what we always do" even though Masa has been hitting the ball really well lately. Needed a bullpen meltdown (and Masa) to win the game.
  18. I'm fine with the middle relief. Just bring them in for clean innings. Don't do the "let Bello put a or two runner on" gimmick. They have one of the best bullpens in the league. Just go to them early and secure a win if up.
