My guess is that the Dodgers don't have any long contracts right now because they are saving up to retain their current talent. They gave Kershaw 7 years ago, so it wouldn't be surprising for them to give out more contracts like that. Do you think they would still not reset if they moved Mookie? Or that they must include Price just so that they can get way under the cap and have flexibility to add during the year if they wanted?

I too love to base all my opinions on commercials that were produced months ago. Also, you stated "i am 99% sure he will be playing in another uniform next season." However, if you take the commercial verbatim: “So to my teammates, my family, and most of all, my fans, you deserve to hear this from me... I’m not going anywhere." So it looks like you're probably wrong too. Maybe even more so than me.

I'd take Verdugo over a 4th round draft pick. It's not even really close.

We'll see. I'm not sure losing some draft picks affects the Mookie trade as there aren't enough draft picks they could obtain in a trade to cover whatever penalties they face. Also, I think they need players closer to MLB than lottery tickets that are 4-5 years away.

I get it, because I’ve talked down other deals (Pedey). I just believe in Mookie.

And I go with the superstar player. IMO, Mookie has the skillset to be worth a 10 year deal. I believe he’d earn more than he’s paid the first 6 years, would be adequate for 2-3 and you’d have to suck up the last few years. To me, the value of Mookie as “future HOF/face of the franchise” is a strong box office draw. Is it a bit if a PR move? Sure, but the majority of the chat I’ve heard elsewhere is that fans want Mookie to stay no matter what. Most fans don’t care about the lux tax. Does that mean they are correct? No, but I think the value is good enough in this case that I would pull the trigger on a long term deal. I just believe in Mookie more than Machado/Harper and others.

The argument, the owners shouldn’t have to pay 8-10 year contracts to superstar players doesn’t hold water with me. Mookie is worth a ton to the Sox. Paying him 12/420 would be a net positive to the team. Henry owns a baseball team, a soccer team, the Boston Globe, NESN, a NASCAR team and more. He can and should pay for Mookie.

The big question is “what does ownership want”? To me, it seems they are more concerned with saving on payroll than winning.

I understand. Everyone is allowed to feel how they feel. I’m trying to not get too down about it until the games actually start.

My point is that people are quick to remember 2019 failures, but even quicker to forget 2018 successes. Will they all evert to 2018 form? Probably not, but I won’t rule it out.
