  1. Are they doing a sell off like the Cubs? If not, they are going for it. They have a high payroll already.
  2. Agree on Sale. On Pedroia, it's just money.
  3. Does Paxton make them better than a WC contender? Not in my opinion.
  4. What will be different about 2022: Sox prospects will be a year older and more likely to contribute. The FA class of 2022 is much better than 2021.
  5. Signing a durable guy would reduce the workload on the rest of the staff. Signing a guy who breaks down in the Spring only exacerbates the problem.
  6. Ah, but have you compared that to the 04-05 offseason where we signed all the big names and didn't let any walk out the door?!?
  7. Sox could easily extend them if they wanted. They may try to extend ERod if he is doing well in July.
  8. I could see Paxton/Walker/Lester all taking 1 year deals. I wouldn't want those guys longer than 2 years either.
  9. No, not even for PR this year. The PR move was Cora. Some of our baseball junkies are close to OD'ing IMO. Casual fans aren't listening to sports radio.
  10. Houck won't be a starter for the whole year. They will manage his innings. Hard to count on ERod or Eovaldi for full seasons either.
  11. Free Agents. Internal options. Deadline deals for talent that can help in 2022 and beyond. Wait until next offseason when better SPs are available.
  12. I don't see any big splashes coming this offseason.
  13. I'm not sure they even need a big name. Just add 2 adequate starters and a few more professional relief arms. Can even go cheap at CF and 2b.
  14. Pass. Sox need to use 2021 to see if any of their prospects can make the next jump. If they want financial flexibility, they need to be better about hoarding prospects and knowing when to move on from one.
  15. @jay_jaffe such a shame that the economics of baseball make it so that a small market team like the Chicago Cubs has to trade their best pitcher just so that the billionaire Ricketts family can turn a more handsome profit.
  16. If a durable arm is available now, it doesn't make much sense to only rely on them for 1 year. You always need 4th and 5th starters. These are guys you can move at the deadline as well. If they only offer 1 year deals, they may be behind other bidders.
  17. Of course they want to give the impression that they will compete in 2021. A marketing strategy of "hey, we're just going to look like 2020, but maybe win a few more games" isn't going to sit well with a fanbase.
  18. Rolling towards 40k high quality posts. No filler here!
  19. Hoping for a 3 team trade seems like a fool's errand.
  20. I think the Sox would do better to find more consistent starters. Kluber and Hill both could end up not pitching after April. I guess it fits in with the health questions already surrounding the Sox staff (Sale, ERod, Eovaldi).
  21. The easy thing to say is "Henry is cheap. He doesn't want to spend anymore. This is a second rate ballclub." All the chatter about the Sox already losing the Betts trade and that every single day there is no FA signing is an affront to the fanbase just lacks critical thinking.
  22. I agree with everything except for the trading for a big name SP'er. I don't think that happens until 2022 or 2023.
  23. I think they'll be looming in most every FA transaction this year. They will submit a bunch of under market offers and hope to get a bite.
  24. Ownership just wanted to get under the cap to reset and decided they couldn't afford Mookie (or at least that the terms he was looking for were too restrictive to future spending). They didn't hire Bloom because they don't want to spend going forward. They hired Bloom because they wanted to spend wisely going forward and be able to compete year in and year out rather than doing the first to last rollercoaster that we have seen from 2012 - present.
