Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that the Red Sox have interviewed Cubs coach Will Venable for their managerial opening. Venable joined the Cubs' front office in 2017 after retiring as a player and then served as the team's first base coach in 2018 and 2019 before shifting to third base coaching duties in 2020. The 37-year-old graduate of Princeton University should eventually get a chance to manage somewhere, even if he doesn't ultimately land the job in Boston. Heyman notes that Alex Cora "has been viewed as the favorite" coming off his one-year suspension related to the Astros' sign-stealing operation from 2017. Dodgers coach George Lombard and Pirates coach Don Kelly are among the other known managerial candidates for the Red Sox. -
Except that Tony Todd was the best Candy Man while Tony Gwynn and Todd Helton were the best Tony and Todd's respectively.

He was not last to leave. He was known for driving home in his uni because he wanted to get out of there. I saw him in his car in traffic like 10-15 minutes after a game was over once.

Their defense was fine. It wasn't otherworldly. I think they were just solid across the board pitching/defense/hitting.

I was confused about o and d then. I was just going by their components that factor into fWAR and it's not very clear on their website. Honestly, I think both Baseball Ref and Fangraphs are not very user friendly.

Well, how would you quantify that or is it just more eye test stuff? Soriano had a UZR/150's of 5.4/38.2/26.5 his first three years in the OF when he had 51 assists. He was second in dWAR for all OFers over that strecth. Seems pretty good, no?

Just being all around good? Fangraphs disagrees though. 7th in dWAR. 8th in oWAR. 9th in fWAR. Only top 5 in BsR and BB%. Generally top half of the league otherwise.

Seems likely? Greenwell had 32 assists from 89-91. Rice had 41 assists from 82-84. Yaz had 42 from 67-69. Dave Winfield only had 20 in his best 3 year stretch with the Yankees. Matsui topped out at 26. Gardner 28. However, George Bell had 45 from 85-87. I don't really remember the dimensions of the old Blue Jays stadium.

Well, the problem is that some people are complaining about how much of a s*** show 2019 was, but we already knew that Winnie was a Pooh. Anything about him would literally be a s*** storm.

If they are swapping Devers and Dalbec, they will probably be on the lookout for a real 3b. My guess is that they leave Devers at 3b until he pushes Dalbec to DH. CF is a mystery. I'm hoping for JBJ on a 2 year deal.

IDK, The Sox fanbase is used to post WS let downs (2005, 2014). It wasn't that much of a shock that they fell back a bit. Chris Sale had already been a large injury concern by the time the WS was over. Which declines were unexpected?
