  1. Moncada is a boom or bust guy. He stunk this year in part due to COVID. Maybe he can turn it around in 2021? He was legit in 2019 if you look at his numbers. In terms of fWAR, his 5.7 would be the 3rd best of Pedroia's career.
  2. Thanks to Ben sanctions for cheating.
  3. Hey, if Dombrowski was here in 2020, he'd probably have traded a few of those guys too!
  4. Until the Jays get some sort of pitching rotation, they'll be closer to .500 over the course of 162 games. Right now, their rotation is Ryu, Roark (yuck), Anderson (go back to the Brewers) and nobody (if Pearson doesn't pan out). They need to sign 2 FA starters. Maybe they splurge for Bauer or bring Stroman back? This year, TOR's OPS+ was 108, Sox were 107 (with dreadful years for Beni, Devers, JD). I think these two teams are closer than you think.
  5. Casas, Mata, Song, Jiminez, Ward, Houck
  6. Hard to trade prospects that don't show any promise.
  7. And now that he has lux tax space, there shouldn't be any more strings from ownership.
  8. @JoeGiglioSports “Dave Dombrowski, architect of two World Series winners, is more interested in the Phillies job than the Los Angeles Angels' GM vacancy, according to two sources, but only if he has complete autonomy.” Well, it's not like Dombrowski can ruin that pen.
  9. Swihart is not a large part of anyone's future. Espinoza is done. Beeks is a bullpen arm. Marrero is a nobody. Guerra, Basabe, Anderson, Rijo, Basabe, Callahan, Bautista, Asuaje and Nogosek are all easily replaceable. Dealing Dubon, Allen and Buttrey didn't really wreck the franchise. They probably could still have those three guys, but last year's team would have still been very bad.
  10. IDK, I think adding Verdugo and Downs could be a big part of his legacy.
  11. Well, I'm glad we aren't still relitigating Jose Iglesias.
  12. And the Dodgers went for overkill in 2020. Maybe the Betts contract hinders them in the future? I think it was worth it for the Dodgers fans who haven't had a title in over 30 years.
  13. I believe the Sox have interviewed him in the past. Maybe he wasn’t impressive then?
  14. The only questionable trade was Pomeranz. That worked out fine in the long run though.
  15. Long leash? It has been one year.
  16. The magic checkbook. Well, he inherited Pedro. Pedro told them to sign Papi. They were able to dump bad contracts on the inept version of the Dodgers.
  17. Haven’t been since I left LA 10 years ago. Beautiful stadium, horrible to get to. Just the worst possible place to put a park.
  18. Those are made up names.
  19. Less than half his games at the position? I've seen this one before: Clint Frazier is going to be pointing his finger at congress and wearing earplugs during games sooner than later.
  20. I wonder if ownership will be hesitant to make that move as they don't want another black eye. Maybe they reach out and try to get him to retire, but pay him in some other way? IDK.
  21. @SoxProspects Red Sox have announced that RHP Domingo Tapia was claimed off waivers by the Seattle Mariners. With seven players coming off the 45/60-day IL after the World Series, expect more roster moves of this sort (clearing out being claimed off waivers) over the next week. It has begun.
  22. Almost a month after parting ways with manager Ron Roenicke, the Red Sox continue to evaluate candidates to serve as his replacement, with interviews already held with at least two. Notably, however, they will not be talking to one name who had been linked to the opening: Tampa Bay Rays bench coach Matt Quatraro. Quatraro would seem a natural target, since he has spent most of his coaching and managerial career with the Rays, starting in 2004, filling a variety of roles from minor league catching instructor, hitting coordinator, hitting coach and manager. He's also been part of the major league coaching staff since 2018 -- first as third base coach and then as bench coach. In every year but this past one, Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom was with the Rays, too. But per an agreement with the Rays, forged a year ago when Bloom left Tampa Bay to join the Red Sox, Bloom is prohibited from hiring anyone from Tampa Bay -- both front office and uniformed personnel -- for a period of two years.
  23. Small but mighty!
  24. Apologies to Pedey if he reads TalkSox!
