  1. If they don't extend Sale or re-sign Eovaldi, they could have re-signed Mookie. They just didn't have the willingness to put money aside for him.
  2. Renfroe/Francy - LF JBJ - CF Verdugo - RF Devers - 3B Xander - SS Kiké - 2B Dalbec - 1B Vaz - C It's a good lineup. Well, at least it's an interesting lineup. I just don't know if they'll do it.
  3. I just prefer Verdugo in RF. He handled it there in 2020.
  4. I think they'll scout the few guys they are looking into and make a quicker decision because they'd rather have them in house.
  5. They reset last year. Why is there no flexibility this year?
  6. To me, they should have spent no matter what in regards to keeping Mookie. That means resetting in 2022/23, huge lux tax payments prior to resetting, and possibly losing Xander and Devers. Though moving those two could bring back the prospects to restock the farm.
  7. What's the point in ever being fully transparent?
  8. The way you avoid that is to sign him to a very large contract. They didn't want to. I don't blame Bloom for Mookie no longer being here. That was an ownership decision.
  9. It just reveals how rough last season's team was in retrospect.
  10. I bet their record will be closer to 2019 than 2015.
  11. Maybe? He's made it this far.
  12. Maybe a bullpen arm? (Workman?) Maybe a CFer or at least someone who can spell a guy there from time to time? (Pillar?) Could get both of those and stay under the lux tax.
  13. @ChrisCotillo Marwin Gonzalez is expected to be in Fort Myers for his physical by the middle of the week, depending on weather-related travel delays. Once he passes that, his 1-year, $3M deal with the Red Sox will be official. Springs, you're on the clock.
  14. Unless they are getting someone else to be in the OF.
  15. I was without power for a few days when the temp went below zero. It was brutal. We had to put blankets up in the doorways of the living room and just burn stacks of wood in the fire place. Even then, it was a miserable experience. Though my kids look back on those few days fondly due to us "camping out" on the floor in the living room. Good luck.
  16. That's why I put the last part in. He's only coming up when he's going to be the starter.
  17. Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports that free agent outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. "remains a possibility" for the Mets. This could be contingent upon the designated hitter returning to the National League, which hasn't happened yet. There's still a decent chance it will happen -- everybody seemingly wants it -- but the Mets can't bank on that and complicate their roster. The Red Sox keep being mentioned for a possible reunion after trading Andrew Benintendi and the Astros have always looked like a good fit. It will be interesting to see if Bradley waits out the DH situation or simply tries to settle in somewhere. The only way JBJ comes back is if his market tanks. Looks like he may have made a misstep in going for a 5 year deal. Maybe he'll be the guy at the end of musical chairs with no place to sit. If he comes back to the Sox then, he's probably going to be a little cranky all year (think: Eck hating era of JBJ).
  18. I want Renfroe and Frenchy to launch some bombs. JD needs to come back to pre-2020 levels. Devers could get close to an MVP run. Kiké should be fun to watch no matter what. Dalbec will always have easy power. Verdugo is the key to making 2021 entertaining though. He's a good young player with a vibrant personality.
  19. I heard one of the podcasts say that Barnes and Ottavino will swap closing based on who is coming up in the order. Makes sense in theory, but in practice pitchers seem to prefer defined. roles.
  20. @redsoxpayroll Boston currently has the 2nd highest CBT number (~$207MM) in baseball behind the Dodgers.
  21. (x) doubt I bet the Mets player will be named by mid May. The other two directly from the Royals may drag out, but I bet they'll all be here by ASB.
  22. I think it was reported that they sent lists of players to Royals and Mets that they wanted to scout further (probably agreed to since there was no MiLB season last year). Maybe they watch them in ST and need to select them by Opening Day or sometime early in the season.
  23. Still available: Jose Alvarez RP Trevor Cahill RP / SP Jesse Chavez RP Tyler Clippard RP Oliver Drake RP Shane Greene RP Junior Guerra RP Jeremy Jeffress RP Keone Kela RP Ian Kennedy RP T.J. McFarland RP Juan Nicasio RP Brad Peacock RP Oliver Perez RP A.J. Ramos RP David Robertson RP Trevor Rosenthal RP Hirokazu Sawamura RP Pedro Strop RP Ryan Tepera RP Tyler Thornburg RP Nick Tropeano RP Edinson Volquez RP Tony Watson RP Justin Wilson RP Brandon Workman RP
  24. Also, the rumors going around are that they are still looking to add another MLB reliever. The pen should be more of a strength than a sieve.
  25. @ChrisCotillo Royals AGM JJ Picollo says here that KC and the Red Sox made a 2-team deal involving Benintendi and Khalil Lee and then Red Sox informed KC they were flipping Lee to the Mets. Red Sox were the middle man; KC and NYM didn't talk directly. If this is the case, the PTBNL from NYM should be substantial. Otherwise, it's a deal of Lee for Winckowski and something underwhelming. At that point, wouldn't you just keep Lee?
