I don't care if someone doesn't want to put Mazza on the 40 man, just don't replace him with "if we don't put him on the 40 man in 2019 he'll be drafted, oh wait he wasn't drafted, but let's say the same thing the following offseason" Bazardo. I might have to workshop that nickname a bit.

Bazardo over Mazza is crazy anyway. Mazza was decent last year. He's for sure going to make the opening day roster.

It's not his fault for the record. JD was nowhere. Raffy looked lost. Beni was broken. Those are 3 important pieces you can't leave on the side of the road. It's the manager's job to get those guys ready. He didn't.

Only titles matter. I don't think Sox fans after 2003 were thinking, well at least we've been to the WS in the 40's, 70's and 80's.

Picking 6 rule V guys that would have to stick on your MLB roster is a very odd thing to do. I could see grabbing 2 or 3 and letting one go during ST. 6? That's just silly.

@IanCundall I’ll have a lot more on the Red Sox fall instructs over the coming weeks, but a name to watch at the 40-man roster deadline is RHP Eduard Bazardo. Bazardo’s velocity was 93-97, up from 91-95 in 2019. He also has a plus CB with an elite spin rate of ~3000 rpm that he can command. Bazardo was excellent at instructs and threw a lot, so other teams got a good look. If the Red Sox don’t protect him, there’s a good chance a team would take a shot on him in the Rule 5 draft given he has the potential for two plus pitches and at least average control.

Well, maybe a starter than can be turned into a reliever and then back to a starter after a few years?

And at that point, it's just personal preference. I think I'd trust the 07 defense more than the 04 defense. Crisp > Damon Lugo Pedroia > Bellhorn Tek = Tek

He'll be in AA by the end of 2022. May even be pitching for Salem in 2021 depending on his commitment.
