  1. Also, FAKE NEWS ALERT: Pedroia didn't win the award, he was just a finalist. Other finalists: Jered Weaver - winner Wade Townsend Huston Street Stephen Head Both Townsend and Head had unremarkable careers (problems with the conversion from college to pro diamonds?).
  2. Verdugo could actually play CF though. Pedroia would bounce his throws from that side of the infield.
  3. A proto Brad Peacock. My thoughts on Danny Darwin are generally confused with Doyle Alexander, another mustachioed pitcher of that time.
  4. I think they anticipated better contributions from Mike Gardiner and 1st rounder Kevin Morton. That era of the Sox farm was stacked to the gills with AAAA guys.
  5. @ChrisCotillo Bobby Dalbec is eligible for Rookie of the Year and he thinks he can win it in 2021. He's planning on mastering the art of game-planning this winter, with some help from VR. I like Dalbec, but I'm clicking "(x) doubt" for sure.
  6. CHB forgets a lot of those 90's Sox teams and the empty stadiums when Nomar first started playing.
  7. Sox have mentioned that they are willing to move Verdugo to CF.
  8. The DH's ahead of Jack Clark in fWAR for 1991: Frank Thomas HOF Paul Molitor HOF Cecil Fielder (44 HRs in his 2nd best season) Chili Davis (statistically his 2nd best offensive season, very underrated player) Albert Belle (first full season, had as many top 10 MVP totals as Yaz) Harold Baines HOF That's a pretty formidable group. His career died on the vine in 1992 tho.
  9. Darwin was terrible in 91, but his 92 and 93 seasons were some of the best of his career. Not sure we could have expected him to exceed that performance.
  10. I was going to mention Darwin earlier. I actually think Darwin was kind of ok for the Sox. He was better than Clark and Young for sure.
  11. @tdcardss Replying to @JonHeyman @Ken_Rosenthal and @Joelsherman1 Red Sox need pitching more than anyone but will prob just end up signing Mike Leake or something. Can’t believe how many of you “writers” praised the Bloom signing... Which of you wrote the above tweet? Come clean!
  12. @JonHeyman Tomoyuki Sugano, Yomiuri Giants star, is expected to decide by Tuesday where he will sign. Sugano can return to Yomiuri (14-2 with a 1.97 ERA last year); they’ve reportedly offered 4 yrs w/3 opt-outs. The SF Giants, Jays and Mets among the interested @Ken_Rosenthal @Joelsherman1 Maybe the Sox aren't in the running anymore?
  13. I have faith that the new Mets ownership will f*** up AFTER completely overextending themselves. They need more contracts to pile on before they get there.
  14. Professionally, he's played CF the least, but he's only played LF a few more times than CF. About 63% of all of his starts are in RF.
  15. I know the scale was different, but at no point was Matt Young considered a splashy signing.
  16. So it's more of a faulting on ownership than it being a big FA pickup.
  17. He's going to NYM, but I'll be happy if he signs in BOS.
  18. I would also expect to see an uptick of your usage of talking in the third person like I've seen.
  19. No, we'll hear about it all day and every day on here.
  20. Matt Young was the 9th highest paid member of the Red Sox in 1991. I don't see that as a big splash signing in the least.
  21. Yup. If they hired some shmoe off the streets with zero background at all, this would have gone well under the radar. How often have we spent more than one or two posts on a low level coach?
  22. Most fans don't care about the offseason the way we do. Baseball's problem isn't losing their diehards, because the only diehards they lose are the ones who pass away. The issue is that they aren't generating new diehards in the younger generations. If the Sox don't make any additional moves in the OF (I highly doubt that to be the case), Verdugo would be in CF and not Beni.
