  1. No, but it should keep them in the hunt, especially if Kluber comes back strong.
  2. MiLB-Transactions @tombaseball29 #RedSox have re-signed SS Jeremy Rivera to a minor league contract.
  3. Yasiel Puig didn't ultimately end up playing during the 2020 MLB season, but the 30-year-old reportedly has a slew of teams interested in his services for 2021. According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Houston Astros, Miami Marlins and Baltimore Orioles "appear to have varying levels of interest" in the former All-Star.
  4. From Jeff Passan: Giants/Sox not expected to pay Sugano what he desires. Jays/Angels remain question marks.
  5. If they don't, they may as well kill another 30 MiLB clubs.
  6. And we are keeping Weber around just in case. Also, need to fill AAA with AAAA guys so that WOO can make the playoffs in their first year.
  7. I see him more as a reliever. He's a spot starter at best.
  8. @redsoxstats On December 5th McAdam was the first to report that the Red Sox "intend to be aggressive in their pursuit" of Sugano. Since then it's just been an echo chamber of "yes the Sox are interested" reports. Seems like Japan/TOR/SF/BOS are options, but no real clue if Sox are finalists.
  9. I mean, they forced a season at a time when everything was closed down last year. Now that all the other leagues are completely open, it'd look really dumb if MLB just sat around with their thumbs up their butts now. I do always expect MLB to make the exact wrong decision though.
  10. No gyro ball? WTH?!?!?
  11. @redsoxstats Tomoyuki Sugano's 2020 repertoire 34% 92.5 Fastball 27% 83.8 Slider 15% 87.7 Split Finger 9% 92.1 Sinker 9% 86.5 Cutter 6% 78.9 Curveball
  12. De La Rosa pitched in the majors for 15 years. Fossum kicked around for a few years, but his best years were with the Sox before he was dealt. Lyon was a reliver who pitching in the majors for the following decade (26 saves in 08). Speedy OFer, Goss, never got above AA. To get 3 major leaguers out of that deal is better than what it could have been.
  13. You can only offer a guy a QO once. Clubs wishing to receive compensatory Draft picks for the loss of a free agent can make a one-year "qualifying offer," worth the mean salary of MLB's 125 highest-paid players, to their impending free agents prior to the onset of free agency if and only if: 1. That player has never received a qualifying offer previously in his career. 2. That player spent the entire season on that team's roster (in-season acquisitions are ineligible).
  14. Why would you only want them on one year deals if you're going to lose draft picks?
  15. @jonmorosi Source: Free agent Corey Kluber will throw for @MLB teams on January 13 in Florida. The #RedSox are among the teams with interest. @MLBNetwork
  16. @IanCundall Gossett is an intriguing depth signing for the Red Sox. In 2018, FB avg. 93 mph and had an above-average spin rate, but the pitch was hit hit hard. Pre-TJ, he threw SL 30% of the time & CB/CH He will likely head to Worcester to start the year in what could be a very deep rotation with Bryan Mata, Connor Seabold, Chris Mazza, Kyle Hart and Ryan Weber already projected to start there.
  17. The trade was Cooper or Bagwell. Sox made the wrong call. Could have sweetened a Cooper deal probably, but we'll never know. Bagwell was a higher rated prospect at the time. I remember hearing that Bagwell was destined for 1b. Could have just moved Mo to DH. It would have prevented us seeing the George Bell slam, but we'd be better for it.
  18. @BNightengale Starter Daniel Gossett, who was drafted 10 years ago by the Boston #RedSox only to go to Clemson and pitch for the Oakland #A's,signs a minor-league contract with the Red Sox. He last pitched in the big leagues in 2018 before undergoing TJ surgery, and was released in July by A's
  19. Dave Dombrowski must have been building that pen.
  20. So Carlos Quintana wasn't an issue either??? The biggest reason was that they had a horrible bullpen and their window was closing for the group that included the last remnants of the 86 team (Evans, Boggs, Clemens, Buckner) and were on pace for 90+ wins. Maybe should have kept Lee Smith rather than trading for Bruno.
  21. I don't buy that reasoning. Cooper was still in AAA when Bagwell was traded. Boggs may have been the bigger issue.
  22. What were the original terms Tom Gordon signed for?
  23. Off the top of my head: Saberhagen's 3 year deal in 94. Jeff Reardon signed a 3 year deal as well.
  24. I would say that was the mid/late 90's flop. Suppan was drafted in 93 and stupidly rushed to BOS, Pavano and Rose were drafted in 94 (neither made it to AAA until 97). The best pitcher of the bunch (Pavano) was flipped to MON for some skinny RHP who had previously been dealt for Delino Deshields.
