  1. Playing the "play in" game is not the playoffs, so I agree.
  2. Andrew Heaney doesn't even help the present of this team.
  3. Was doing really well in AA. Had a 12.18 k/9. Much better than 2019. Has only appeared in 3 games in AAA. He gave up 3 runs in his first outing, but the next 3 IP were 2H, 2K, 0BB, 0R. Too early to tell. Not seen as the closer of the future anymore, but should be in MLB in the next few years.
  4. Drafting comes down to the scouting department, not to the GM.
  5. @PortlandSeaDogs Sea Dogs' pitcher Denyi Reyes will be the starting pitcher for the Dominican Republic as they take on Sea Dogs' first baseman Triston Casas and @USABaseball in the @Olympics.
  6. It's how it has always been (except in 2020 when nobody wanted to make threads so we just did series threads and that worked out poorly).
  7. I think you could get Schoop and a valuable reliever for lesser prospects than Aldo Ramirez.
  8. I don't like this timeline.
  9. And if you like bombs, why not call up Mieses after the Olympics? https://twitter.com/WooSox/status/1422577512559878153 1083 OPS in AA 873 OPS in AAA What he did to that ball is probably illegal in some states.
  10. Aldo Ramirez was a fairly decent SP prospect (top 10 on SoxProspects). Schwarber's contract took up the remaining portion of the lux tax cap. They weren't able to do much after taking him. Why not get a guy like Schoop (who can play 1b) and a reliever with actual value?
  11. Schoop - 120 OPS+ Cadelario - 119 OPS+ Grossman - 118 OPS+ Baddoo - 130 OPS+ for a rule 5 pick! Tigers have nearly twice the SB's as BOS. It's a better offense than you'd think. They have some high upside pitchers too (Skubal, Mize, Turnbull, Soto, Boyd, Cisnero). The bottom of the roster is hideous though.
  12. Yes, unless he can magically pick up 1b, it's an odd move IMO.
  13. I agree with you.
  14. The only retort that could make sense is that maybe they could have used some low ceiling MiLB guys (Wilson, Rosario, et al) to bring in a few extra pieces. The DFA'd Wilson and the Mariners gobbled him right up. There was some value there apparently. Maybe he could have been able to swing a deal? Maybe he tried and got no bites? To me, it seems like the mandate was to stay under the cap this year no matter what. It was less about giving up the prospects and more about pushing the luxury tax back another year. Seems like his hands may have been tied? Maybe they are just punting on the cap until the new CBA is approved?
  15. I was just assuming that due to the nature of this thread and you posting about farts, that there didn't need to be a point?
  16. 2018 DRAFT: Casas Decker - Salem 820 OPS Feltman - just promoted to AAA Cottam - not much going on Ward - IL Greenberg - 1058 in Greenville, 835 in Portland Northcut - 824 OPS in Salem, drafted out of HS Shugart - 790 OPSa in Greenville Politi - 775 OPSa in Portland, has outside chance of helping MLB club in near future Howlett - 843 OPS in Greenville, drafted out of HS
  17. 2019 DRAFT: First 10 rounds: Cam Cannon - has turned things around, but maybe isn't an MLBer, 818 OPS in Greenville Matthew Lugo - solid glove, bat isn't there, scouts still see upside, 628 OPS in Salem Zeferjahn - in FCL, didn't look great in Salem, 812 OPSa Song - TBD, still in flight school Jaxx Groshans - just promoted from Salem to Greenville, good bat for a C (871 OPS in Salem) Chris Murphy - solid starter, just promoted to Portland Brock Bell - IL (UCL surgery) Will Dalton - recently promoted to Portland Scroggins - reliever, promoted to Greenville this year 884 OPSa Stephen Scott - 834 OPS in Salem, recently promoted to Greenville Others: 19 Joe Davis - 961 OPS in Salem, 984 OPS in Greenville in 11 games, just mashes, DH only probably (Matt Stairs type)
  18. 2020 DRAFT: Yorke - 795 OPS in Salem, after starting ice cold (484 OPS in May, 953 June, 967 July) Jordan - see above Wu Yelland - 10.89 K/9, 1.25 WHIP in Salem as a SP, reduced his walks in July Drohan - 8.19 K/9, 1.42 WHIP in Salem as a SP, had a pretty terrible June 2.19 WHIP, but was productive in May and July 1.13 and 1.15 respectively Seems like this was a decent draft for only getting 4 guys (missing 2nd round pick). Will be interesting to see how the 2021 draft starts to shake out over the next few years.
  19. @alexspeier Jordan hit .362/.408/.667 with four homers and 12 extra-base hits in 19 games/76 plate appearances. While strikeouts had been a concern for him entering pro ball, his K rate during that FCL run was a reasonable 17.1 percent.
  20. @SoxProspects Per @alexspeier (and now seemingly confirmed by the Salem website's roster), 3B/1B Blaze Jordan and 2B/CF Tyler McDonough have been promoted to Low-A Salem.
  21. Casas 2021: 777 OPS in AA May: 952 June: 577 July: 829 Devers had a 944 OPS when he was promoted to AAA. Benintendi had a 872 OPS when promoted from AA to MLB. Mookie had a 994 OPS when he was promoted to AAA. Casas just is a step below the above guys right now.
  22. Richards vs Peralta Peralta had a good stretch for a while and then got lit up last two times out. I predict runs.
  23. Fabian k'd 79 times this season. That's not good.
  24. If he is striking out above 30% in college over long stretches, it's going to be a nightmare as he advances up the ladder. How has the "everyone strikes out" worked for Dalbec?
  25. Is there supposed to be one?
