  1. Chavis only has a 758 OPS in AAA. What do we expect him to do differently here? The last time he was up he had a 39.4 k% and a 0.0000 bb%. Sox may do better finding some veteran retread to bring in.
  2. 97 was Clemens' first year with TOR. He was definitely not with BOS in 05 either.
  3. Aside from the Mata/Ward injuries, this has been a very good year for Sox prospects. In a perfect world, Downs would start to heat up too. Hard to complain though.
  4. His current trajectory is less than 1.5 WAR, but ok. He can be an everyday player in MLB, I'd just rather BOS not have to use him as an everyday player.
  5. I'm just not a big fan of giving a guy with 6.12 bb/9 high leverage innings. The walk rate is bottom 5th % of the league. What I saw last night wasn't pretty. I must apparently miss some of his dominant performances because he always looks a little shaky to me. That's probably in part to him having a really low whiff rate. He does a great job of limiting hard contact. Maybe as I get used to him pitching, I can be more comfortable with how he attacks hitters. It's just a little different.
  6. Well deserved.
  7. Update from last night: Ort still dealing (k'd the side) Bello is absolutely shoving (5.1, 9k, 0bb, 1r) Cam Cannon still showing offensive life (4 hits) Tyreque Reed is getting bored in Greenville (3 for 6) Granberg continues to his hot streak (3 for 4) Joe Davis has eclipesed the 1.000 OPS mark (3 for 5, 2 HR)
  8. What was the punishment for the Sox aside from the banishing of their video guy? Remember, Cora was only punished for his role in the Astros nonsense.
  9. His price tag is fine, he should just not be an everyday player.
  10. Not to be too political but... I think all the content on here could be a little better. There's days I just phone it in too (very rarely though).
  11. I think it's been a mild improvement on what I expected. The big surprise to me isn't the pen, but how the starting rotation has been. I anticipated an injury for Eovaldi, ineffectiveness for Pivetta, an ok season for ERod, mediocrity from Perez and no idea what to think about Richards. The only let down has been ERod.
  12. Taylor was just really awful for his first few appearances from what I remember. Ottavino is a little more white knuckle than I'd like for my 8th inning guy. Sawamura has been fine. DHern still walks way too many guys to ever be a high leverage reliever.
  13. Pining for medicore Chavis is a weird look IMO. People were using phrases like "sparkplug" and "he hustles." He's the 2021 dirt dog guy I guess???
  14. They punted a season that was only 60 games long that fans couldn't attend. The very next year, they were at or near the top of the division for the first third of the season and are still looking like playoff contenders. Many people were saying "if everything breaks right, they'll be an 88 win team." Looks like they are better than that?
  15. Because Tristan Casas is already a fine 1b and he'll be the opening day 1b next year. Moving Devers creates a hole at 3b. Blocking Casas seems like a very odd decision to make. I know you've been pounding the Devers to 1b drum for 4-5 years now, but I think you're wrong here.
  16. Pablo Lopez was supposed to start for Miami, but the Marlins are giving him an extra day of rest. Zach Thompson, recently called up from Triple-A, will make his MLB debut with his start. The Marlins recalled Daniel Castano and optioned Lewis Brinson to Triple-A. Thompson signed a minor-league deal with the Marlins in December after six seasons in the Chicago White Sox system. The 27-year-old righty served as a multi-inning reliever for Jacksonville early in the season, posting a 6.60 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 15.0 IP. Thompson stands 6-foot-7, commands a low-90s cutter well, and also throws a four-seamer and curveball. He made seven appearances this spring for the Marlins and posted a 1.69 ERA over 5.1 IP, allowing just one run. He registered a save and struck out nine. Recalling Castano might indicate a potential piggyback situation considering Thompson’s been exclusively a reliever since 2017. In Jacksonville, Thompson has surrendered four homers, which has inflated his ERA. He’s also picked up 21 strikeouts and allowed only two walks.
  17. Thompson pitched a season high 3 innings last time out. He's been used as a bulk reliever in AAA.
  18. @BallyMarlins Zach Thompson makes his MLB debut on the hill for the Miami Marlins at Fenway Park!
  19. A lot of people weren't believers in this pitching staff at the start of the year. I thought their bullpen could be pretty good (i.e. top 10). I thought the starters would end up average at best.
  20. @MLBNetwork "He's, right now, the best defensive right fielder in the big leagues." @ac13alex on @hunter_renfroe Uh, he's good, but best? In the division I'd probably take Margot.
  21. @jcmccaffrey Colten Brewer cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Worcester
  22. Going against the dreaded TBD. That guy has kinda been overworked this year though.
