  1. Who said "replaced?" If Devers and Dalbec had worked harder on their defense last offseason and during this season, the team would be better off.
  2. Reminder: today's game starts at 4:10 EST.
  3. Ted: 156 WRC+, 1045 OPS, 131 Runs, 145 RBI, 185 Hits Dalbec: 115 WRC+, 817 OPS, 58 Runs, 72 RBI, 111 Hits, 3x lower bb rate and 5x higher k rate Having 1 extra HR while being 5 years older doesn't really get me that excited...
  4. I never said "replace these guys with defensive minded players," I just said if this defense was better they'd have more wins.
  5. So if Devers fixed his throwing issues, he'd start to eat s*** at the plate? That's a dumb argument.
  6. Not sure how stating an obvious fact of "if the Sox had better defense, they'd have more wins" becomes wrong? They'd have a few extra wins this month if the defense wasn't a joke.
  7. If we are weighing with scales, it's much closer to most contenders than "one 17 years ago."
  8. If the Sox had better defense, the team wouldn't be tied with NY and TOR, they'd be firmly in the pole position for the first WC spot at least.
  9. Disagree. Berry: https://cdn.fangraphs.com/players/quintin-berry/9414/game-log?position=OF&gds=&gde=&type=0&season=2013 Roberts: https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=roberda07&t=b&year=2004 Both were used quite often as defensive replacements. Kotsay might actually be the least applicable since he mainly became a starter once he came to BOS.
  10. Supplementing the bench is pretty typical for contending teams. Some posters just like to gaslight though.
  11. @SoxNotes Last 5 games for the Red Sox’ bullpen: 4.1 IP, 0 ER 7.0 IP, 1 ER 3.1 IP, 1 ER 2.0 IP, 0 ER 4.0 IP, 0 ER Totals: 0.87 ERA, 20.2 IP, 2 ER Wow, seems ok.
  12. With all of Renfroe's errors, he's not worth the arm. Overrated.
  13. https://www.mlb.com/news/enrique-hernandez-red-sox-contract Hernández, who won a World Series with the Dodgers in 2020, will help fill the void the Red Sox have at second base. The Red Sox told Hernández that he will get the bulk of his reps at second base, but he could also see time in center field -- where Boston appears likely to lose Jackie Bradley Jr. in free agency -- and in the corner outfield spots while also spelling Xander Bogaerts here and there at shortstop. This was reported extensively at the time.
  14. "Oh, so you just pulled Quintin Berry off the top of your head?!?" Unfortunately for Mr Berry, he's at the top of my "remember a guy" pile. I don't know why he stands out as he wasn't a huge contributor.
  15. It was the only team I looked at. Have you never heard of a team having a defensive replacement for a stretch run or adding a guy that can steal bases? The Sox have done it a bunch. Off the top of my head: Dave Roberts Bobby Kielty Mark Kotsay Quintin Berry 2018 team didn't need OF replacements (Mookie, JBJ, Beni) so they went ahead an loaded up on IF guys like Pearce, Brandon Phillips and Ian Kinsler.
  16. Blue Jays - Jarrod Dyson
  17. Was supposed to be Marwin.
  18. https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/red-sox/time-red-sox-consider-xander-bogaerts-future-shortstop
  19. And the original plan was to put Kiké at 2b. That Cordero LF, Verdugo CF and Renfroe RF alignment wasn't going to carry this team. Tomase had a good article yesterday about the defense. Let me see if I can find it again.
  20. @mlbtraderumors Guardians Designate Ryan Lavarnway For Assignment Bloom should nab "the Real Deal" for the stretch run.
  21. Really telling that the best you can do is 15-14 for the BOSOX.
  22. The real cliff is the 2021-22 offseason when they need to purge all the bad defensive guys.
  23. Probably need to swap out 9 positions.
  24. I would also say that 1B is fairly important and you can't ignore LF.
  25. Well, Devers' good range makes up for it.
