Up the middle guys are just usually the most athletic guys. A lot of the guys drafted get moved off SS/CF early on regardless.

I agree that it has always been a part of the game. I agree that it's absurd that anyone who truly values data and advanced metrics would be bothered by shifting. Teams are trying to win by having the other team score fewer runs, right? So if one guy can't hit the ball to the left of 2b, why put anyone over there? Shifting doesn't bother me. Shifting doesn't impact my enjoyment. I don't think it has hurt the game in the least. The only people that are bothered by it are curmudgeons IMO. Too much is made about the beauty of the game, Babe Ruth, dirt lots and Cracker Jack by losers like George Will. These people should be blasted into the sun because they are making the game worse not better IMO.

In "care" I mean "want to get rid of." I don't think analytical people are bothered by shifting and understand why it happens.

More wiggle room with that too as the bases are now bigger.

He is a horrible fielder. His speed doesn't matter. It certainly won't help him with whatever shifting nonsense we're talking about now. As of 10:22 AM on 9/16/22, he's a below average LFer. How would that get better in 2023?

He's cheap. A league minimum Eric Hosmer has value. You could deal him at some point.

He wasn't fired, he quit a few weeks after DD rolled into town.

I believe Mazza and Springs were likely to be DFA'd that offseason, which is why they did a "two-fer." At the time, they needed catching depth and they really wanted to clear out some of that pitching dead weight. I liked Mazza in 2020 and they really talked up Springs on the NESN telecasts. Sox really liked Springs k rates and spin rates. I was kind of surprised they let him go. We can now see that Ronaldo really doesn't seem to be a long term fit a catcher. His upside at DH or other positions is moderate. He probably gets a longer look next year as the primary catcher in WOO, but I don't see it. They should have kept Mazza and Springs instead of Austin Brice and Colten Brewer. Ronaldo has potential, but he's sat on the 40 man for 2 years now and hasn't provided anything to the big club. It's going to take another year in WOO to even determine if he'll ever be ready.
