  1. The Angels are close to finalizing an agreement with free-agent reliever Archie Bradley, tweets Sam Blum of The Athletic.
  2. This is a lie. I remember seeing Morganna back in the day and my dad yelling "WHIP 'em out." These analytics have always been popular.
  3. No, not again........
  4. Brian Mata interview: https://www.masslive.com/redsox/2022/03/boston-red-sox-no-2-pitching-prospect-bryan-mata-im-still-young-and-ill-still-be-able-to-make-an-impact.html
  5. @alexspeier Cora said Dalbec will get work in the OF and at 2B in addition to 1B/3B. Cora also said he wants to see Duran bunt and hit more to all fields in order to make greater use of his speed. I like both of these ideas.
  6. Farming In Phinney's pasture
  7. I would say that analytics became popular and easier to digest in baseball because there was already great focus on lowly stats like RBI (Hack Wilson!) and batting average (.406!).
  8. Did I say it was? notin: baseball has been more stats driven mvp: true, here are some well known stats from each league with baseball being more memorable
  9. Trick plays in NFL: cool when they work, hilarious if they fail. Baseball: you can't do that!
  10. I would say that Dan is doing really well with 20/20 hindsight for CC and Sale.
  11. True. Hits: Rose/Cobb HRs: Bonds/Aaron/Ruth Ks: Ryan SBs: Ricky Runs: Ricky Saves: Mariano Wins: Cy Young/Walter Johnson NBA? Points: Kareem Rebounds: no idea Assists: Stockton? no idea Steals: No idea NFL? Rushing Yards: Emmitt Receiving Yards: Rice All QB stats: Brady Sacks: Taylor? No idea Interceptions: No idea
  12. It's low on the list of priorities IMO.
  13. I think that was the International Draft. I don't think they are going to reopen the CBA.
  14. I heard enough from him during the Kent Burns Baseball documentary. He's one of the "beauty of the game" types. Baseball is art and it plays along with the changing of the seasons. Nope.
  15. Man, I want that hometown team to be good this year. Would be nice if I could afford to take the family to the old ballpark a few times this summer. Maybe there will be players I recognize from last few years?
  16. Maybe they are running around like a fire drill? We don't know. I don't know how much they could have reasonably expected out of Sale anyway.
  17. Next offseason could be an absolute disaster for this franchise. Maybe they are hedging their bets this year due to that? Maybe they'll do all that they can to either re-sign or replace the guys heading out the door. If they are just waiting for the prospect pipeline to develop, it'd be very foolish.
  18. Basketball is a slower game now than it was in the 80's.
  19. The only way to make MLB popular again is to make it a game that boring people like George Will would despise.
  20. Per Will, if strikeouts just vanished and the game became contact based with less emphasis on HR's, it would become king again. I don't think it would have an impact at all. I don't think casual fans care about the shift. I don't think casual fans think poorly about the increase in k's and HR's.
  21. Average age of MLB fan is 57. Boomers are pumping money into the game. When they are gone, the game will be a shell of what it once was.
  22. Last season's plan for the OF was a head scratcher too. It worked out in the long run. A 4th place finish in 2022 would be the only thing to shake my confidence in management. They have more info and they don't typically announce ahead of time what their plan is (Renfroe signing, JBJ trade and numerous other deals seemed to come out of nowhere).
  23. Yanking starting pitchers is a trend from the past 4-5 years at most? Baseball was trending in the wrong direction long before that happened.
  24. I think it was trending in that direction before the sabermetrics boom. I also don't think sabermetrics really plays a part in overall enjoyment of the game.
  25. That ship sailed. Baseball is probably 3rd right now behind Football AND Basketball.
