    Yeah, strike outs have steadily increased over the past 40 years or so. Is pitching just getting better and better? Are hitters just changing how they are approaching their at bats too much? HR's are up, but H's aren't. 2B's aren't. Runs aren't. Hitters are just trying to hit flyballs and if they don't go out, OFers just catch them for easy outs. If it really is just the pitching is too good, they'll need to adjust the mound again.

    Is he closer now than he was last year? Yes. Is he closer now than he was at the end of '24? No.

    They were so locked on being proven that their system worked that they forced him onto the MLB roster after he had a horrible ST. He hit well for a few weeks and the fell off the map and wasn't even able to hit AAA pitching. Injury? Lack of confidence? They clearly rushed him last season.

    Seems like he's completely done playing C? Seems fine if he's just going to focus on mashing and for a guy with the injury bug. He's also still only 22 (Rule 5 eligible this year).

    It's a stupid risk because at the end of the day they only save money if KC becomes a super star. They needed to be sure about that. Internally, they wanted to break down his swing within a few months. Why?

    It would have solved itself quickly with Casas getting injured.

    28th in OAA and FRV. They can't blame the Monster for an OAA variance either. The OBP point is a pretty good one though. It worked for a long time. Not sure why MLB dropped it for launch angle. They used to score more runs back when OBP was cool too. HR's may have gone up per game, but the runs didn't increase. Weird! 😎

    I doubt they let Whitlock out of the contract until the last club option is done in '28. Contreras probably stays for '28 too.

    Tolle has a very high ceiling, but is still a potential relief profile due to the secondaries. Early has been solid, but the underlying metrics could lead us to believe that there will be some regression over the course of this season (4.68 xERA, 13th percentile barrel rate). When one pitch could end a career, I could see why Breslow could be hesitant to extend these two. I'm not sure the bad Bello extension affects it either.

    If they truly are a pitching pipeline, you don't worry about extending young pitchers who can be prone to career ending injuries. Breslow has also been willing to spend FA dollars on starting pitching. Unless a guy is a front end starter, there probably isn't a demand to extend.

    The AAV is 7.5M for a guy sitting in AAA. The issue is that you're guaranteeing him 2/30 contract after he's done with his arbitration years. Doesn't seem like this is a guy that would be on track for getting there at the moment.

    Lawlar was moved to the OF back in October in the Dominican Winter League. They weren't happy with his defense and had benched him in the regular season for it. It was clear to me back then that he was being moved to CF and that they didn't want Duran.

    I haven't heard that reported anywhere. I think AZ wants to go with a youth movement and save cash. Duran and Bello don't help with that. With their value in the tank, they'd want to to that trade even less now.

    Breslow has a 5 year contract. I think he's here through 2027 no matter what.

    The trade request was too much for an aging player with a big contract. They aren't getting Mayer plus Tolle or Early for him. If there's a team out there that will do that, they are much closer to a WS window than this team is.

    They don't teach situational hitting anymore. They just teach exit velo and lifting the ball. That's all they know. Kyle Boddy said that it makes for bad baseball, but it's what the analytics guys want so it's what they teach.

    Romy is still there. He's hanging out with Roman in the North End every night.

    Marte has a better wRC+ than every Sox IFer except for Contreras. His 234 BABIP is 70 points below his career norm. If you look at his Statcast page, he's really just been unlucky.
