  1. Valdez didn't play ANY SS for Worcester. NONE. Unless you saw him play SS in 2021 down in TX, you haven't seen Valdez play SS.
  2. Yes, it's just due to where the picks are slotted. It's not additional money aside from that.
  3. And at one point, Mookie, Raffy and Xander were just prospects with hype. It's up to the Sox scouting and development team to find the right guys and make sure the system is on the right track. In a vacuum, Xander leaving isn't a big deal. Mookie should have been extended PRIOR to the Sale and Eovaldi contracts. Raffy should have already been extended by now. At this point, the only thing the Sox can do it re-sign Devers and show fans that they will go large and long for the right guy. Will fans still have a grudge about how they handled Mookie? Yes and they have a right to feel that way. I sure feel a lot of resentment about it.
  4. The Sox drafts have mostly sucked since Theo left in 2011. Bloom seems to have righted that ship at least.
  5. So he'll trade Raffy in season which will only make fans more upset because that's when it's the only game in town and their are more eyes on the product?
  6. He only has two professional games at short and 7 total fielding chances. I'm not going to say that I don't believe you, but I don't believe you.
  7. Valdez had a 734 OPS with WOO. Might want to not strap a rocket on him just yet. If you are going to add a bench MIF, they better have a good glove.
  8. I just want to know how atrocious his defense actually is if they are moving him from 2B/3B straight to LF/1B. His bat better be really good. His trade-mate Abreu may wind up being the better prospect received.
  9. Segura is 2B or 3B going forward. He hasn't played much SS the past few years.
  10. I don't think they are better off yet. Casas, Bleis and Mayer could be in the conversation with Betts, Devers and Xander someday. Rafaela? He's probably closer to that JBJ tier. Romero and Anthony could be on that Beni tier.
  11. I didn't say they won't, I said they can't, which means they shouldn't. If they go into the season that way, it would be a big mistake.
  12. @IanCundall If the Red Sox had got under the luxury tax at the deadline, they would have received picks 70 & 71 in the 2023 Draft for Bogaerts & Eovaldi. Instead they will receive picks 133 & 134. They also miss out on ~$1 million in additional bonus pool money going off 2022 slot values. The total draft pool money goes down about 1M based on the change in comp picks from 70/71 to 133/134.
  13. I don't know if moon is talking about INT'L money, I'm talking about MLB Draft money.
  14. Why are you trying to overpay for Rojas?
  15. Well as long as they are either going to extend him or trade him, I'm fine with it. They can't do what they did with Xander in 2022.
  16. He's not even a top 60 prospect in the system. There's no reason to mention him.
  17. It's not "bonus money" but you get a bigger pool of money based on how many picks you have and where they are in the draft.
  18. He can only play 2B (barely), not SS. Field: Fringy hands and range. Not a natural fielder. Can make routine plays but tends to lack fluidity and makes things more difficult than they need to be. Has primarily played second and third base in his career, but in 2022 began to see some time in left field and first base in an attempt to find him a long-term defensive home. Potential below-average defender regardless of where he ends up.
  19. Lots of people on here were on board with COMPETING! Should have traded everything not nailed down last offseason.
  20. Dawson and Carter OR Walker, Grissom, DeShields?
  21. Yup. Bloom claimed "(Devers) is at the center of everything we are trying to do." Time will tell if that's the case.
  22. It think it's more likely than not that he's going to SS and I agree that it's the wrong decision.
  23. Agree. Devers glove just hasn't been consistent enough. Still worth whatever $$$ someone will through at him.
  24. Not a future HOFer. Top 10 MVP vote finishes: 2X. Top 10 most WAR finishes: 0X.
  25. C'mon now. Buchholz was injured napping with his baby. Mundane injuries are the name of the game. They take down the skinny guys all the time.
