  1. Was he unable to control Ben enough to tell him to slash the budget?
  2. Rotation has a decent ceiling, but a VERY LOW floor. The rotation could be absolute garbage for sure. Paxton, Sale, Kluber could all just fall off the Earth and it wouldn't be a huge shock. Bello could just have a sophomore slump. Pivetta could just be Pivetta. Yuck.
  3. You have no clue what JD will do in '23 as he's now a year older and on further decline. Bogey is moving from an offensive friendly environment to San Diego, facing a bunch of new pitchers and may have substantial struggles this season.
  4. That O's series was embarrassing.
  5. It feels like an 85 win team at best right now.
  6. Henry getting booed at winter weekend right now. Man that was tough. John Henry, asked about the #RedSox ticket prices, "baseball players are expensive." Loud boos in response and Sam Kennedy has to step in and rescue him after he can barely get a word in afterwards.
  7. Per BTV: Not accepted Oops! At least one team in this trade is not giving up as much value as they should be. Try balancing it out with either more players or cash. Twins received 59.4 Marlins received 26.6 ???
  8. Sorry to ruin your weekend, moon. @JeffPassan Full trade, per ESPN sources: Marlins receive: 2B Luis Arráez Twins receive: RHP Pablo López, SS Jose Salas, OF Byron Chourio
  9. It's not hindsight when it was an active conversation going into the 2022 season.
  10. Wacha and Hill were in various stages of being injured at the time. Eovaldi's prior 3 starts: 13 INN 16 ER 8 K 4 BB 23 H 11.08 ERA They had already told Xander they weren't going to trade him. Yes, JD should have been traded for a low A prospect.
  11. I've never felt the urge to slap anyone at Walmart.
  12. Probably due to their respective ages? Get dinged if you're on the older side?
  13. The horse and pony show seems driven by Kennedy. Bloom feels much more awkward with it. (“I just want to be clear: We’re going to do this. It’s going to be awesome. And we are going to get there.”) I think they are just trying to run PR, but doing a piss poor job at it. I think Kennedy is a guy who failed upwards. Sometimes it's better to say nothing at all than look like an angry used car salesman like Kennedy.
  14. Vaz is ok, but I honestly think he's a little overrated. He had some CLUTCH moments, but that's mostly because he stuck around so long. It's like Rich Gedman. I have fond memories of him because he played here for so long, even though he was only good for 84-86. I still remember watching him hit for the cycle.
  15. What is a real #1 though? Just because a guy plays 100 games, doesn't mean he's better than 2 guys that do a timeshare. Even Cora mentioned that Vaz' heavy workload had a negative impact on him.
  16. I agree on all fronts. A better GM could have projected an increased amount of injuries due to adding a bunch of over the hill starters.
  17. According to FanGraphs, McGuire was better than Vaz last season.
  18. Capable back up catcher is a high bar I guess???
  19. Downs was a highly touted prospect at the time of the trade. He was a good trade piece for the Dodgers. It just didn't work out in the end.
  20. I think Alfaro was simply brought in as a cheap backup in case Wong or McGuire don't work out. I don't think he's someone that was in their initial plans, but just fell into their laps. With Duvall, the Story issue forced Kiké off CF and they had to go out and find a CFer. They probably looked at the trade market and felt a one year deal for Duvall was the easiest way to go about it. Maybe they see enough offseason progression/buy-in from Rafaela on plate discipline? Similarly, not someone they would have initially targeted. They just needed his defense badly and were willing to overlook the other deficiencies.
  21. They were a medicore team last season. 14th pick in the draft? Pretty mediocre.
  22. Hamilton is fast, plays a position of need (2b) behind a guy who is constantly getting injured and they are currently working him out in the OF. He could appear in BOS. I'm not sure I'd count on it as his bat is pretty bad.
  23. Dude swings for the fences every at bat. I appreciate the grind. I don't believe he's a very good catcher TBH, but he could be ok for a mediocre team. I think it's more likely that we see McGuire and Wong out there.
  24. I think that caveat is always assumed. Risky predictions are always appreciated anyway. What's fun in being boring?
