  1. Makes "a little sense" is not the same as makes "little sense."
  2. Dalbec is NOT a viable 2B/SS.
  3. Dalbec was used in MIF because of a lack of options. They have many 2B options, just not good SS options right now. Dalbec is most certainly fodder for AAA. Valdez makes a little sense as he's a left handed bat. Maybe if he has a strong ST? That's why I wonder if they hold off on adding someone to the 40 man.
  4. The law of averages may want to spite Bloom again this year after flying too close to the sun in 2021.
  5. Barnum and Bailey, Big Apple, Cirque du Soleil or Garden Bros? A circus can be fun, interesting or absolutely cruel and horrible.
  6. Kiké and Mondessi are the 2 best options for SS. Rafaela won't be rushed. I'm not sure how much 1B Valdez has played or if the club has any idea where to put him. Hamilton can fake it at SS, but really is a 2B. He will probably get substantial OF reps in ST too. Koss is decent at SS in a pinch. I don't think his bat would do anything in MLB though.
  7. Mondessi is supposedly either going to be ready for Opening Day or should only be out for a short time. I have heard ZERO about Paxton. He's basically bigfoot. I don't see the Sox adding Koss, Crook or Fitzgerald to the 40 man. They were invited to ST because of the missing bodies due to the dumb WBC. I don't think any of them see MLB action this season. Tapia, Goodrum and Alfaro are probably the 3 best players listed. It depends on what the team needs are due to injury, especially up the middle. Goodrum is probably most likely due to the uncertainty at SS with Mondessi rehabbing.
  8. It would be absurd to make a team carry a guy on the 40 man during Spring Training if they know he's going to be out for the season. They already have 10 IFers on the 40 man. Do they just add a Catcher like Alfaro? Maybe put Story on the 60 day, but wait to add the roster spot depending on Mondesi's progress? The most recent TalkSox podcast suggested that we may hear rumblings of Connor Wong taking grounders at 2B, especially since there will be weird roster construction with lots of guys going to the dumb WBC.
  9. The 60 Day IL in Spring Training goes back at least a few years: 02/23/20 Boston Red Sox placed 2B Dustin Pedroia on the 60-day injured list. Left knee discomfort.
  10. I know that they used to accrue time as of Opening Day, I didn't remember when they could be added. I'm not sure when/if the rule was changed. 8. A player cannot be placed on the MLB 60-day IL after the conclusion of the MLB regular season, and during the post-season and off-season, up until the start of Spring Training (beginning on the date that pitchers & catchers are scheduled to report). A minor league player can be placed on a minor league club's 60-day Injured List only during his minor league club's regular season. 10. A player who is placed on the MLB 60-day Injured List during Spring Training must spend at least the first 60 days of the MLB regular season on the Injured List (the player cannot be reinstated any earlier than the 61st day of the MLB regular season).
  11. Yes. We'll see if anyone else gets added too. I haven't heard anything about how Paxton, Houck or other player's rehabs are going.
  12. Agree on both points. Theoretically, he can have the rocket strapped to him this year and it will be more than ok. If it take him a little longer to get there, it's not a huge knock on his longterm value either.
  13. I agree. I wouldn't put him there in April/May just because of how horrible the weather can be.
  14. Also, I'm a HUGE Fernando fan. I've carried an '86 Topps Mini Fernando card in my wallet for about 25 years now.
  15. How did Fernando do after age 25? Was Gooden the same pitcher after age 25?
  16. For work meetings as well. When I was walking into the lead meeting today, the EA said "no one is in their yet" but that was fine by me. I wanted to get my seat, adjust the blinds, relax.
  17. I put people on ignore, not because of how they are as fans, but because how it affects my enjoyment of TalkSox. My suggestion of putting other posters on ignore is not to deride the other poster, but to state that it's better to just put someone on ignore if you can't help yourself from being bothered by their posts. Maybe you two should put each other on ignore if you just can't help yourselves from snipping at each other. As bellhorn said, this is a lightly moderated board. Suspensions aren't going to fix the problem in a timely manner unless it gets really ugly and I don't think anyone wants that.
  18. How did Valenzuela hold up after age 25? Was Gooden the same pitcher after 25?
  19. For me, the two prospects in the system that I'm already dreaming on are Mayer and Bleis. It's probably OVERLY premature, but I was born 9 weeks early so you can't really blame me for always jumping the gun. I'm the type of person who thinks "5 minutes early is late."
  20. A lot of people are still projecting Mayer as "two years away." I guess they think Mayer would go A/AA in 23 and AA/AAA in 24? I think he'll exceed those expectations. That's just me.
  21. https://www.eagletribune.com/sports/underwhelming-farm-system-rankings-dont-tell-full-story-of-red-sox-rebuild/article_9c878336-a6fa-11ed-bd16-c7173d6fe8b9.html Mac Cerullo article with Chris Hatfield of SoxProspects discussing the overall state of the Sox system. Seems like a fair assessment to me. Coming into the new season Hatfield said he expected to see the Red Sox fall in the No. 11-15 range in the preseason organizational rankings and believes Baseball America and MLB Pipeline’s assessments will be closer in line with McDaniel’s than with Law’s. Why the middle of the pack? Though the Red Sox do have more high end talent than they used to, the system is also somewhat top heavy. Something that stands out about the Red Sox system is there are two distinct “bubbles” coming up. One has already reached Triple-A or even the majors and is just about ready to contribute right now (Casas, Bello, Rafaela, misc. pitchers). The other is still in Single-A and likely at least two years away. The sparse in-between at Double-A is the reason why the Red Sox aren’t in the top 10, and filling that gap will be the next step the club has to reach before it can be compared to the an organization like the Los Angeles Dodgers, who always seem to have a bottomless supply of prospects coming up year after year.
  22. Yoshida has already reported to camp.
  23. Fernandez rose due to health?
  24. Eovaldi made it through all of 4 starts before he took a long nap until the end of July.
