  1. He hasn't brought any new scouts in. There have been no organizational changes under Bloom.
  2. He didn't bring the Tampa playbook with him. He heard all of the criticisms about Tampa North and decided he shouldn't do that.
  3. We could have just extended Xander!
  4. Av Exit Velo is bottom 7th percentile! He's also bottom third in sprint speed! Seems great for leadoff!
  5. He needs time to acclimate. Pushing him to leadoff would make him press more IMO. Him batting 6th for now is fine especially since his xwOBA is the bottom 29th percentile.
  6. I'm sure player's manager Alex Cora would completely disagree with this assessment.
  7. That's what happens when your arm no longer works the same way.
  8. Sonny Gray is a RHP so I would assume McGuire.
  9. @redsoxstats Chris Sale Day again. His fastball and sinker have been two of the worst pitches in baseball, his fastball literally the worst pitch in baseball (min. 50 pitches) with a .785 wOBA allowed. If his command resurfaces, we'll see if it's a cure-all.
  10. They are a middle market team. They are the Minnesota Twins.
  11. Yeah, but we're free to talk about all things Red Sox on here. Feel free to talk about Brennan Bernardino if you'd like!
  12. Until Masa actually starts putting good wood on the ball, he can be lower in the lineup. It's just ugly right now. He's just pressing too much and not going the other way. Having him hit leadoff would make it worse.
  13. xBA top 4% K% top 4% Whiff% top 3% OAA top 5% Highest BB% of his career I just hope he recognizes that this is the best fit for him as a player.
  14. This is just the bad "they are playing a kids game" argument.
  15. I've seen little indication that his creativeness can work in our favor either. I think his plan is simply: 1. sign veterans to short contracts to fill whatever holes are in the lineup while staying under the CBT 2. wait for the prospects to get to BOS The problem with the first part is that the short contract guys typically are the lesser FA's and are older and more likely to break down or perform poorly. The problem with the second part is that prospects get injured, don't develop or take too long to develop. And it doesn't seem like the Sox have some scouting or development advantage over other organizations.
  16. Verdugo has been killing it there, I wouldn't move him. He's also expressed a desire to NOT hit first.
  17. It was his first start of the year with bad weather and he had no Spring Training because he was shut down due to an arm issue. If there's any time to give him a pass it'd be this game. Sheesh.
  18. That's why the Rays are always a solid team. They just play good baseball day in and day out. Why Bloom has built this team in this manner? I have no clue. We've all talked about the concerns defensively and the low ceiling the rotation could have. This is Bloom's mess to figure out.
  19. There's always an adjustment period for young players and for guys transitioning into the league. That's why this is a bridge year. There's going to be ups and downs until they figure it out. Maybe they make a run in the second half, may be not.
  20. Until Masa starts hitting, he shouldn't be at the top of the lineup.
  21. They got Story on a discount because all the other teams knew about his bad elbow just look at the contracts handed out this offseason!
  22. Orioles are 9-7. On the Sox schedule between now and May 22: Twins 10-6 (must be good because they can beat the Yankees) Guardians 9-7 (same record as lowly O's) Mariners 8-8 (.500 team!) Braves 12-4 (yes, good) Phillies 6-10 (bad team!) Brewers 11-5 (probably good) Cardinals 7-9 (below .500!) Pads 7-9 (below .500!) That's 4 series against teams with .500 records or below, plus the Guardians that have the same record as those horrible, no good Orioles!
  23. There hasn't been much in game performance to judge. The coaching staff say he's making strides in practice and in the offseason. It's a big unknown. I don't think he'll ever be an average defender. Maybe he can be coached up to slightly below average?
  24. That's what happens with the bottom of this lineup.
