That's a loser attitude. Casas is the next great Red Sox hitter.

I saw an analysis on that in The Athletic not long ago, in which they explained the reasons for holding. JD had been so bad, and the pitchers, specially Hill, apparently didn't hold much value to other teams, so they opted for the half measure of keeping them and collecting the available extra picks.

Long-term contract for pitchers almost never work out. Scherzer's initial one with the Nats was damn good though.

Almost everyone on this board wanted them to buy SP, if not everyone. I wanted them to buy, but on a controllable arm that could help at least this season and next. If not possible, holding was fine for me.

Of the ones traded? That's kinda the point. I would've rolled the dice on Verlander, assuming he's an outlier and a freak of nature. I think he'll sustain a lot of his value next year health permitting, but he was never coming to the Red Sox.
