  1. Gary Matthews looks hilarious with that hat Always good to get rid of Utley quickly.
  2. Lowell's sulking like a 5-year old. AN OUT.....WOW!!!!!!
  3. Wow Lackey.........solid contact to the pitchers twice in a row.....
  4. *waits for people to bitch about the team's defense*
  5. I wanted to address this in full, since Mr. Bias couldn't back up his position, and got pissed when confronted about it: Couple of points: Baseball Reference categorizes pitchers by three echelons "Power", "Average", and "Finesse". Power pitchers are guys who are in the upper echelon of Walks + K's, average are, well, average, and Finesse rank near the bottom. Usually, by these standards, power pitchers consist of the upper echelon of pitchers, and so forth, and while the rankings aren't perfect, the following is the Red Sox' performance against each type of pitcher: Power: .777 OPS, 121 sOPS+ Average: .740 OPS, 102 sOPS+ Finesse: .870 OPS, 130 sOPS+ (sOPS+ is used to measure OPS in relation to league OPS instead of individual OPS, in which case, stats against Average and Power pitching would come out below league average.) Also, when looking at the Game Logs, i found that the Sox had hammered the following pitchers who were in the upper third of the league in ERA (at the time): CC Sabathia AJ Burnett Zack Greinke Phil Hughes Francisco Liriano. As well as performed "well" against several others: James Shields Brian Matusz Colby Lewis. The Sox have performed well offensive in basically every situation presented to them this year. The offense started out inconsistent but has really clicked since late April. Saying they "lie down consistently" against good pitching is a flat-out lie. Cue backpedal and sidewinding.
  6. You keep repeating the same thing. Doesn't make you right. Cameron's a good defensive OF with limited platoon issues who can drive the ball and get on base to some extent. Your problem with the guy is that "But but but i like Ellsbury better "WAAAAAAAAAH!!!!". Not really. I simply don't like people who can't take the thirty seconds needed to investigate this type of thing before running their mouths. If you're trying to use it as part of your argument, why not find out? Says who? You? Well i'll believe the stats over you and your bias any day of the week and twice on Sundays. I'm not a psychic, but i know a knee-jerk when i see one. Beckett came off a solid season. And if they had the opportunity to sign to a not-outrageous contract, then that's a chance they had to take. If you don't like it, that's your problem, but don't come talking like you "knew" Beckett was going to have a rough start. Hindsight is a beatiful thing.
  7. Hey, call me a homer if you want, but i've said before: Neither the Rays' rotation nor their bullpen are sub-3.00 ERA squads. They will struggle at some point. If the Sox play well, they're both catchable.
  8. Not anymore, they're not: The Sox are 14th in Defensive Efficiency: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/sortable/index.php?cid=69267 The Sox are 7th in UZR and UZR/150: http://www.fangraphs.com/teams.aspx?pos=all&stats=fld&lg=all&type=1&season=2010&month=0 They've still given up the most runs in the AL, but with the SP showing signs of life, Ellsbury and Cameron coming back, as well as the current D settling down (with the exception of Scutaro), that's bound to change. Stay tuned.
  9. According to this article: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100520&content_id=10248188&vkey=news_milb&fext=.jsp Ellsbury and Cameron are both expected back within a week:
  10. The D-Backs are third in the Majors in Runs Scored, third in homers, and fifth in OPS. That team can rake.
  11. He pitched the next inning afterwards. They basically took him out because of precautionary measures, but still, goddamn.
  12. Ubaldo Jimenez continues his torrid stretch of pitching. Tonight's line: 7 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 4 K ( So far). He has an 0.99 ERA thus far. Let's see just how long he can keep this sort of dominance up.
  13. And to think i took so much s*** for defending the team. All worth it now.
  14. I like the Red Sox, and i expect them to start playing consistently, as well as give the Yankees and Rays a run for their money. This team is too talented to not be able to win ballgames consistently. And hey, what about this offense?
