  1. I believe Richard will remain inconsistent and Poreda will ultimately be a reliever. Especially if his command doesn't improve. Peavy had 27 starts in 2008 and 34 starts in 2007. He hasn't been that injury-plagued.
  2. 1. The Metrodome was maybe the worst park in all of baseball. Attendance will go up in the new stadium. 2. Mauer isn't going anywhere. Call it a hunch. 3. Buccholz for Morneau straight up would not be a good trade for the Twins, as Buccholz hasn't done jack yet. 4. Kenny Williams is not a moron. He's made some bad moves, but he's also made a lot of good moves. And, IMO, the good far outweigh the bad. Look at Jake Peavy. He got him for practically nothing.
  3. Topical. Tiger Woods has also been aided by his celebrity status.
  4. Lackey has done well for himself.
  5. Sweet. Nothing to worry about. Muhsin Muhammad said Chicago is where receivers go to die. I'd say Petco is where hitters go to die.
  6. Is it possible to get Agon's splits against LHP exclusively on the road?
  7. As I said, I agree with this philosophy. But not every run is scored that way. If no one is hitting above .260 on your team, it's going to be a long season.
  8. Also happy to see Kotchman on his way out. I hope Theo's faith in Westmoreland and Kelly isn't misplaced because Ellsbury and Buchholz have a lot of value.
  9. The prevaling notion that BA and RBIs are completely useless stats is flat out wrong. I agree that OBP is certainly more important and that not making outs is the objective of hitting, but a team with a low BA generally won't score a lot of runs...
  10. Strongly disagree. Now that Bay is out of the picture, the need for a big bat is more pressing than ever.
  11. And her mom is Goldie Hawn, too.
  12. I can't stand Kotchman. I want him off the team.
  13. Felipe Lopez had a great year. No chance he'll be a backup.
  14. Lucky for us, we get to see a rematch in a few weeks on a grand stage.
  15. I'd still like to know who rates UZR. Scouts? Scorekeepers? Or sabermetricians? I would think the best judges of defensive prowess would be scouts.
  16. In fairness to Cashman, the Sox have more needs to address than the Yankees. But Lackey is definitely better than Burnett. Burnett may have better stuff, but he also has worse command and historically has been less durable.
  17. Gonzalez hits to all fields. If he can hit 35+ HRs playing half his games at Petco, imagine what he could doing playing half his games at Fenway.
  18. I agree with FanGraphs that they're overpaying a little for him and that 5 years is too long, but the rest is pretty much nonsense. Lackey's walks and strikeouts haven't fluctuated at all the last three seasons. It's also true that Lackey hasn't been quite as durable the last two years, but he has a strong track record of 30+ starts and 200+ innings.
  19. The Mariners are looking pretty good right now. But I still think they're short a few bats, especially if they don't re-sign Branyan.
