  1. Hope this becomes official soon. I think this move took everyone by surprise. All along I've been hearing that Lackey would most likely re-sign with the Angels. Whoever said the Sox should move Youk to LF... no. Just no. I agree that this definitely opens up the possibility of a trade for Gonzo.
  2. Most new age stats are pretty neat, but I'd have to agree about UZR. Fielding is just hard to quantify. I'd like to know who the people are who rate UZR. Are they scouts? Scorekeepers? Sabermetricians?
  3. Sweet goal from Hossa tonight. The puck never touched the ice!
  4. From what I've seen, Gonzalez is much better than average in the field. I'd say he's one of the best defensive first basemen in the game.
  5. I would be on board with that. This is the problem with dealing with Hoyer. He knows the farm system so well that he won't settle for anything less than Boston's best. But I like the scenario you proposed.
  6. If Igarashi is anything like Igawa, I'd be all for it.
  7. Statistically speaking, Bay would be better off staying in Boston than going to Seattle or San Fran. Weaker divisions, yes, but those parks aren't hitter-friendly. Still, I doubt that has much to do with his decision making.
  8. Don't forget Granderson.
  9. I'm almost positive Kenny Williams wants to get rid of Jenks. If Putz doesn't close next year, he'll be the setup man for Matt Thornton.
  10. Right now, I'd have to say Span. If Ellsbury's plate discipline improves and he can get his OBP up to to .375 or so, I'd give him the edge because of how dangerous he is on the baespaths. One thing to remember is Span may get on base more, but Ellsbury is in scoring position a lot because of the steals. He hits more doubles than Span as well, which also gets him in scoring position.
  11. That means Bobby Jenks is as good as gone.
  12. Jones signed with the White Sox. I think your conclusion is correct. He might also split some time at 3B to give Young rest.
  13. HUGE steal. What were the Braves thinking?
  14. No way that's happening. No way, no how.
  15. Lowell was a significant player in Red Sox history. He played a big part of the WS Title in 2007 and was one of the pieces in a very controversial trade.
  16. With Lowell gone, I'd say this means one of three things. A. Theo is going after Gonzalez and moving Youk to third. B. Theo is going after Beltre and keeping Youk at first. C. Technically, it could also mean Youk moves to thrid, VMart moves to first, and they platoon Varitek and Ramirez. Option A sounds good to me. Option B would be okay. Option C doesn't make much sense, as the lineup doesn't get any better.
  17. That was a bit of an overreaction.
  18. I find it annoying, that's all. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
  19. Emmz, you're a fairly knowledgable baseball fan for a girl. And we all know you've got a thing for Dipre, but for God's sake can you stop agreeing with every single one of his posts? You are like his echo.
  20. IMO, Joba will never be a good starter. He has no endurance whatsoever. He belongs in the pen. I think Hughes has more of the makeup for a starter, but he's still unproven.
