  1. No, probably not. But it's conceivable they could play .500 ball next year.
  2. The Padres may not stumble out of the gate. The last 62 games of the season they finished 37-25.
  3. I know. I should have clarified. I'm saying that Ellsbury will be moved to LF for much of 2010 because of Cameron. Therefore, Span and Ellsbury will both be primarily used as corner outfielders, making Span more valuable in terms of VORP.
  4. Basketball is big in Indiana. Especially at the high school and collegiate level.
  5. I would be all for getting rid of a lot of teams.
  6. Yes, but since Ellsbury isn't much of a CF and will, in all likelihood, be moved to left field for much of the season, it doesn't really matter. Especially since this discussion is about who is the better leadoff man.
  7. I've always admired AI's heart. Say what you want about the off-the-court issues, but he has played the game the right way.
  8. This. They should take out two teams from each conference. You would eliminate the pathetic playoff teams and make the postseason shorter, killing two birds with one stone.
  9. The culture of the NBA is definitely more thugg-ish than it used to be. But the worst part of the game is the general lack of commitment to defense and everyone jacking up threes. The officiating could also be better.
  10. I'm a little concerned the Olympics might f*** the Hawks over. Kane, Toews, Hossa, Keith, and Seabrook. Can't really afford to lose any of those players to injury.
  11. Hermida has never even hit 20 HRs before, so 25 is probably a stretch. There are so many better options than Kotchman to play first base it's not even funny. Gonzalez, Cabrera, Konerko, LaRoche, Branyan, the list goes on.
  12. The Metrodome.
  13. I understood your point. What I'm saying is Kotchman has no value. He can catch the ball at first base. Other than that... If you need a late inning defensive replacement at first base, he's your guy. That goes beyond a specialized player. That makes him almost completely worthless in my estimation.
  14. Cubs sign Marlon Byrd for 3 years.
  15. Propaganda at its finest.
  16. How can you be so obtuse? Is it deliberate? Broken down and broke down are the same goddamn thing, you supercilious motherf***er. Nicest member. Nice to your idol, Dipre. You are a wolf in sheep's clothing.
  17. Straw man, my ass. I haven't misrepresented anyone's position. Spud said Damon has broke down. I demonstrated that he hasn't broke down. And comparing Damon to Ellsbury is perfectly logical. Sox retain Damon's services. Ellsbury doesn't play. Offense is better. Defense is marginally worse or a push.
  18. I'm not avoiding the point at all. He said Damon broke down. He hasn't. He played more games in LF than in CF, but that doesn't mean he wasn't capable of playing CF. They had better options defensively. From the looks of things Ellsbury is, at best, marginally better defensively and much worse offensively than Damon.
  19. If you believe in UZR, Ellsbury isn't much of a CF. Would Damon really have been any worse? Maybe, but not significantly. Fact: Damon has played a lot more games in the outfield than DH for the Yankees and has been more productive than Ellsbury. He hasn't broke down.
