Sox let Cora leave because they thought they had the SS and UT-INF positions locked up between Lugo and Lowrie. DIdn't work out that way but you can't count for consecutive injuries to both your shortstops when you're making your offseason plans.

Masterson's got the velocity today. That was 93. EDIT: Speaking of velocity, Gameday said the first pitch to Luke Scott was a 96 MPH (!!!!) fastball

*shrug* Fine then, it's not like that was the only idea I brought up in my post. Point is there's no shortage of middle infield options in trade if all we need is a guy who's better over the course of a season than Nick Green. Any news on Lugo? I haven't heard anything but I don't always have my ear to the ground.

I think they can win a game without Milan Lucic. They out-tough the Habs even with Lucic out of the lineup, and maybe without Lucic crashing around out there Thornton will be allowed to do his job. That kid needed to cool it anyway. With the reckless way he's been playing and the way he's been taking what should be a team responsibility on himself by trying to take whole teams on, I imagine our lumbering crowd-pleaser might have found himself on the bench even if the suspension was overturned. You like to see a tough guy, but Lucic has been way over the top lately. It was only a matter of time before Milan either got hurt himself, or earned himself a whole lot more than a match penalty.

Beckett went 6 and the guys who didn't pull heroic duty the game before now combine with 3 excellent innings of their own -- Oki, Saito and Papelbon. We have 5 setup men in this bullpen. And by that I mean, 5 men with setup or closing experience. And it shows. It's incredible.
