  1. http://forum-soxprospects.com/topic/4263/t/Tracking-the-catchers.html This thread on the Soxprospects forum got me thinking. I know it's way the heck early, but broaching the subject now hurts nothing, and the worst case scenario is that we all have a good laugh about it later. I have to say, George Kottaras looked very good yesterday afternoon, even with the freak excuse-me double play. It's only been 2 games, but he's currently 2 for 6 with a double and a walk (good for a .926 OPS) and hasn't embarrassed himself trying to catch Tim Wakefield. He also got that double against a LHP, which got my attention. It's still apropos to look past Kottaras to other options trying to find our "catcher of the future" for now, but he's off to a good start, and I have to think there's a point where Kottaras plays himself into the discussion as a possible catcher of the future himself. The FO has to be flexible enough to let a guy change their mind for them and Kottaras is beginning well at doing that. Thoughts?
  2. And with Ellsbury's range, and the fact that he's playing CF, he's probably getting a lot more chances than Greenwell. The amazing thing to me is that Coco Crisp didn't break that record. But I guess he plays such aggressive D that the odd error is going to happen.
  3. I saw this somewhere on MLB.com but can't confirm, but apparently Ellsbury has the Red Sox record for consecutive errorless chances for a CF. Combined with his excellent range, that's quite a kudo.
  4. He's an upgrade over Nick Green, who would make a nice utility man but isn't going to produce offensively over any kind of long run
  5. The fact that this team seems to have just hit bottom and started bouncing back up is a reason for optimism. What a performance by Tim Wakefield.
  6. Beautiful job by Wakefield. We needed that oh so very badly. Heroes: Lowell, Bay, Drew, Kottaras, and especially WAKE.
  7. Right. Along the same lines, "Ellsbury hits a shallow fly ball to right field..." and "Drew a slow grounder to the second baseman..."
  8. Lester's no-no, I think. Looks like it was a poor decision.
  9. Wakefield's pitching through a long-term injury and he's gone 8 innings and thrown about 90 pitches, It's a reasonable time to pull him.
  10. Sure, but I'm not particularly sorry. No-hitters are nice, but wins are what I care about.
  11. Yeah, really, everyone will forget this performance by June, but it was badly needed and very timely. 8 innings of 1 run baseball is always a great performance. Thanks so very much Timmy!
  12. There goes the shutout. Get the bullpen warming.
  13. Indeed, especially Nick Green.
  14. My fault, guys. I had to go post in the nono thread.
  15. Gotta say, even if he didn't get the nono, he still earns mad props for saving the bullpen tonight.
  16. Lost it at 7.1
  17. Not sure -- it depended on whether the rules for perfectos allowed an error. EDIT: So the error killed it? OK, wasn't sure. And under the circumstances I wasn't going to ask.
  18. Perfect game is gone. Looks like Wake is mortal again.
  19. C'mon, Wake, gotta finish this off. You've come too far.
  20. Ellsbury got a hit. Ellsbury... got a hit. ELLSBURY got a hit. Wow, maybe Ragnarok is here!
  21. I don't honestly care about that kind of milestone, except that it'd a nice icing on the cake of a win. And it might be a game I have to buy a copy of. Other than that I'll just take the win.
  22. Kottaras showing some offensive chops at the big league level -- double and a walk today. I wanna see more of this guy. Maybe he can take some starts against righties that Tek doesn't match well against.
  23. Nah, it'll be my fault. I got excited and posted in a certain thread in the MLB forum. OK, Kots, you've got some redeemin' to do!
