http://forum-soxprospects.com/topic/4263/t/Tracking-the-catchers.html
This thread on the Soxprospects forum got me thinking. I know it's way the heck early, but broaching the subject now hurts nothing, and the worst case scenario is that we all have a good laugh about it later.
I have to say, George Kottaras looked very good yesterday afternoon, even with the freak excuse-me double play. It's only been 2 games, but he's currently 2 for 6 with a double and a walk (good for a .926 OPS) and hasn't embarrassed himself trying to catch Tim Wakefield. He also got that double against a LHP, which got my attention.
It's still apropos to look past Kottaras to other options trying to find our "catcher of the future" for now, but he's off to a good start, and I have to think there's a point where Kottaras plays himself into the discussion as a possible catcher of the future himself. The FO has to be flexible enough to let a guy change their mind for them and Kottaras is beginning well at doing that.
Thoughts?
