  1. Why even leave Beckett in for that? It makes no sense.
  2. Saw that coming from the moment the bases were loaded with no one out.
  3. Oh CRAP! Bases loaded, no one out. We fail from here.
  4. Seriously, what is it with the Yankees and throwing at Youkilis?
  5. Our best hitter up with 2 RISP and no one out. No chance for a GIDP. We have to be taking the lead here. Right?
  6. Papi still has his power. He'll turn this around. soon for good.
  7. Besides, I've posted here long enough that you guys have an idea how I roll. Did you REALLY think I was going to go for the spotlight-hogs, big-K pitchers and franchise thunderbats?
  8. Either way, I heartily approve of anything that nets us a sandwich pick.
  9. I picked James Shields -- inning burning, durable, just entering his prime, excellent command, an up and comer with a shot at really being great and a very good chance of at least being solidly effective in the American League East -- no small feat itself. If I really was building a team, Shields is the kind of guy I'd want pitching for it. He gets his work done, doesn't get himself in trouble very often, and saves the bullpen, all very important considerations when you're looking for an ace. There are probably other higher-upside picks such as Lincecum but Shields is about the lowest-risk pick out there for a pitcher, and if you're picking a pitcher, managing risk is important.
  10. I expect to see him in a Brewers uni shortly. Would be a good fit for both parties. Don't we get a pick if that happens?
  11. James Shields.
  12. Yeah, and Mauer's back will blow out and Pap's shoulder will fall off within 2 years of signing. Thame old thycle.
  13. Oh yes, definitely. Even though A-Rod and Ordonez indisputably make us stronger on paper it doesn't follow that we win more and we got miracles out of the team we had -- literally. The real question is how many times the Yankees even reach the playoffs on the same span of years without the guy and with, say, Troy Glaus at 3B instead.
  14. Whoops. Oh well, I think the rest of my argument still stands. We had enough personalities and leadership (real leadership I mean) on that team at that time that we could probably have handled A-Rod.
  15. If we'd gotten A-Rod, we would have had Manny and Ortiz around him. He wouldn't have NEEDED to be the guy. The rest of the team would actually pick him up sometimes. Ortiz, Manny and Millar among others would have been personalities for the media to focus on and conceal the fact that A-Rod really doesn't have one. A-Rod would probably be much happier in Boston as a result. I'd have been happy to have Magglio Ordonez for a right fielder over that span too. The botched A-Rod trade coincided with the beginning of the end for Nixon and Nomar both. It would have been great.
  16. Put him on the waiting list. If someone goes AWOL, he can come in and replace them.
  17. In his first 9 innings of AAA work, Bard currently has an ERA of 1, a k/9 of 16, and a .037 BAA. He's walked 3 and surrendered a solitary hit. Textbook definition of a filthy and auspicious beginning. When we get Bard up here to go with Papelbon, Ramirez, Oki and Delcarmen, and then if we can spare Masterson to the pen too, this bullpen is going to be legendary.
  18. Matt Herges pitched for each of the Dodgers, Giants, Diamondbacks, Rockies and Padres. (his cameo for the Diamondbacks was very brief and not particularly good) http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/hergema01.shtml Not that anyone can't be excused for having their trivia question foiled by an itinerant reliever.
  19. http://www.horrordvds.com/reviews/a-m/killjoy/killjoy_fl.jpg
  20. + Ramirez + Delcarmen That might be the best 5 righthanded pitchers ever to grace a bullpen.
  21. I hereby propose that nicknames that clearly belong to one player are admissable "names." Such as "Salty" for Saltalamacchia,
