  1. That was a pretty good inning from Bard. A power pitcher gets 3 straight grounders to the right side. If he can get weak contact and also overpower with the heater, that's a good combo. Sweet.
  2. C'mon kid. One more out and then it's not your problem anymore. EDIT: THREE
  3. Ahh ok. Sorry. Don't get fine, kid, you suck when you get fine. Trust your stuff.
  4. Bard's got a tough row to hoe, especially if he lets someone reach. GO KID GO!
  5. When you're up a run is no time to bring Lowell in. You take a defensive hit and if Beltre has an average year the offense isn't that much improved. If we get the sucktastic version of Beltre maybe you pinch hit but we don't know that yet.q
  6. Well that was about as fail as the Yankees could possibly fail.
  7. Nice to see Damaso Marte in midseason form.
  8. How many times was it specifically Pettitte's fault that the team got that far/won the Series. Probably a lot less than 8. Schilling was the man, or one of the two men, who carried a team in three different Series.
  9. Not much of a surprise. since he pitched decently in the last spring training outing I expect the DL stint to be relatively short, and just a way to get a useful player onto the roster while Daisuke finishes getting ready.
  10. I hate that we're starting against the Yankees. A Yankee series is something that needs building up to, I'd rather start with a nice gentle series against Baltimore and then one against a Central Division team and get a chance to see what the team is before the Yankees come to town. As it is we don't even know how our personnel will gel for the duration of the season yet, so it's a bit harder to really get excited about the matchups.
  11. I think Schilling's got a great chance. His body of work puts him in the conversation, and then he's got a couple moments of postseason greatness to give him some Mazeroski points. Not just the Bloody Sock either, although that's the big one. His last professional game being a World Series win doesn't hurt either, not to mention his penultimate game being an elimination game against Cleveland that he also won. Contributing in a major way to the postseason campaigns of the 2001 Diamondbacks, 2004 Sox and 2007 Sox all count well in his favor. Pettitte may get some postseason points as well, but I just don't think Pettitte has anything in his history that matches the individual heroism of the Bloody Sock Game
  12. They're talented, but not deep and it's hard to keep proven players on their budget. They're still in their championship window but a lot has to go right for TB, including several things going wrong for NYY and/or BOS
  13. But of course, we all responded with logic. Gom isn't interested in logic, just baiting.
  14. Because this team won't eat a large amount of money to release a guy who's in their way. That's why Julio Lugo's still with the team.
  15. New Yankee Stadium is not going to be kind to Burnett as he ages, Righthanded power pitchers aren't a great fit with the park you have, unless you find a way to abate those air currents that draw the ball out to right field.
  16. If Dustin Richardson "languishes" as the last man in the pen he will have done well for himself. He's not exactly a renowned pitching prospect. As for Doubront, his chances of cracking the rotation are virtually nil, so his value to the team is tied up into either his return in trade or his bullpen utility. So it's not exactly like we're really saving either of these guys for anything other than bullpen duty -- if they look ready, they're either one probably better than Schoeneweis out of the box -- so why not?
  17. Only in your own head. Burnett is a hard thrower and his WHIP has gone up each of the last 2 years. Tthat means he's throwing a LOT of pitches. that's a shoulder injury waiting to happen.
  18. Schoeneweis is like JC Romero was last year. He's here until we know we don't need him. Keep an eye on Dustin Richardson and Felix Doubront, If either one of them open the season strong, Schoeneweis won't be here very long.
