  1. Furcal could help us on both sides of the ball. Other than him, I'd stay put unless you can make a radical improvement.
  2. Stay the heck away from QQuentin unless you're going to DH him. That two years of consecutive subzero WAR in 09 and 10 just screams huge backfire potential.
  3. The Yankees need to be in on Ubaldo. Besides the paucity of their rotation even with Sabathia, they need to do something to make sure they aren't screwed over if he opts out. I've thought all along that the Yankees would be the team that won the desperation contest that is the potential Ubaldo trade.
  4. The Yankees need to go get Ubaldo if for no other reason than to improve their leverage when trying to stay off the barrel CC wants to put them over with that absurd opt-out clause of his..
  5. Pretty much. Either one of Colon or Garcia might not turn back into a pumpkin by September. Leaning your playoff hopes on both is foolish.
  6. If we were floating Lester I'd want to clean a team out. That's why I'm saying what I'm saying about the Rockies and Ubaldo. Now take a team who has maybe one or two guys who could be their pillars to give them a shot (one) at the playoffs. You don't think they'd want even more?
  7. So which are more important? Already good players who stay good, or potential black holes in a lineup that get filled with above average talent because someone broke out?
  8. That would be a deal I could endorse. If there's one top prospect we can spare it's Middlebrooks. I'm just guessing here, but I'd say it's unlikely the Rockies would fail to ask for Ranaudo. The deal likely looks more like Middlebrooks, Ranaudpo + 1 MLB ready pitcher (Doubront/Weiland) + a B guy.
  9. You gotta do this with an eye on the future, not just the present. Not saying don't get Jimenez at all cost, but do it with an eye on the most you're willing to pay. DON'T just go nuts. If COL asks too much, have a Plan B.
  10. Ubaldo Jimenez is a very good, highly durable power pitcher with strong stuff. He would probably succeed here and could give us several quality years. I don't want to sound like I don't want him. I do. But you don't make holes to fill holes. If you can find prospects you can spare, that will bring in Ubaldo, do it. But we've already stripped our farm system twice in the last 2 years, can we really do so a third time without hurting our ability to sustain a winner?
  11. Nope. I was backing you up. Felix and Ubaldo go nowhere at the deadline unless someone panics and overpays. Those names get floated in the hopes that someone does. The Rockies and Mariners are not going to accept fair deals for those two pitchers.
  12. So we go after him in the coming offseason when the Mariners migtht be more anxious to move him. Not difficult. I bet money that the Mariners clear other salaries to keep Felix. Also, Seattle ain't Tampa. That's a market that can pay out and have a great roster, if they commit to doing so. They just need to have a better batting average vis-a-vis player development before there's a point to it. But the deadline is rarely a place where talented pitchers with multiple years left on their contract get moved. That is an offseason type deal. Set your sights lower.
  13. Yeah, that was a bitter pill to swallow. Hochevar was a top prospect in all of baseball a couple years ago. Him pulling a good game or two out occasionally is to be expected. Davies was a gutpunch. On the other hand, we just flat out mauled a pitcher for the Royals who'd been a bulwark for them and had been having a surprisingly good year, so a Royals fan would call our demolition of Chen, and our impotence against Davies, a wash.
  14. Sleeper vote for Dan Bard. Also deoending on what you're asking here, Saltalamacchia turning into a respectable catcher instead of a terrible one definitely had a large positive impact on the team. If you consider the gap between the projections and the reality, perhaps Salty's impact as an adequate catcher is greater than well-established high order veteran players having the kind of years you expect out of them.
  15. Apparently Colorado wants what we offered for King Felix. Screw that. That was 3 former first round picks, including Dan Bard, plus Reddick and Doubront. No.
  16. Theo isn't going to pay that kind of talent for Jimenez. We've already blown up the farm system twice in the last 2 years. He believes in building from the farm, he's not going to do that indefinitely.
  17. I wouldn't part with Lavarnway or Middlebrooks, and without those two the deal breaks down. Either Middlebrooks or Lavarnway, or possibly both, could be on the roster next year depending on what happens with Mr. Kevin "always-getting-dinged-in-the-field" Youkilis, as well as Ortiz and Tek. If they decide to DH Youk to keep his bat in the lineup, Middlebrooks is the logical replacement, with perhaps Lowrie or Navarro as a stopgap until he's ready. If they decide to play Youk in the field, Lavarnway could play DH and backup catcher. As things stand, both are viable injury insurance and could come up big next year.
  18. Guess KC is getting better. Hochevar is a talented pitcher who hasn't "got it" yet but still has the talent to pitch a good game here and there. Not too surprising. I'm more shocked that we didn't get to their bullpen.
  19. Come on yourself. We're going to get a guy. Theo needs to not knee-jerk and overpay based on the first asking price. It'll go down to the deadline, someone will blink, and we'll get our guy.
  20. Kuroda or Buehrle. Buehrle or Kuroda maybe Guthrie, but I doubt the O's either deal him, or deal to us.
  21. Stay away from Ubaldo. He's a great pitcher, but he's a Pyrrhic victory. My ideal trade target is Mark Buehrle or Hiroki Kuroda.
  22. THat's awful, a700, I'm sorry. I can't believe that eve here, someone goes out and says a thing like that.
  23. In case you're wondering why this is happening. Castig in the early going mentioned that Beckett had never lost to the Royals. Just FYI.
  24. Stick an intfelder in left, that's what happens.
  25. Looks like Bad Beckett decided to pay a call.
