  1. Yankees are so screwed now.
  2. We can always get the stud pitcher that is Jeff Karstens, right?
  3. Buehrle buehrle buehrle buehrle
  4. Is it possible that Aviles is being spun? Or... I know you can't trade Lowrie because he's on the DL, but could he be a PTBNL?
  5. That just raised the asking price on Jimenez.
  6. They've been running cheap for years. If they thought it could propel them right into contention, and the attendance and media ratings that go with it, they might. Guardians payroll per Cot's 2011: $ 49,426,567 2010: $ 61,453,967 2009: $ 81,579,166 So yeah. They have a lot of money and they might go nuts. It's the sort of thing a midmarket does to springboard into relevance.
  7. True. But if the Guardians can get their hands on an actual 1B they might be dangerous next year with or without Carmona.
  8. And I agree with Suns. Their rebuild is going pretty well, and they're fairly close, especially if Carmona can tie it back down and be a big league pitcher next year.
  9. Eh, if he was a Sox pitcher we'd defend his upside and talk about what he'd do once he really "got it."
  10. Yeah go ahead and say that, but while you're saying it, ask why the Royals traded for 2 different shortstops rather than turning this guy loose at short after he came back. I got my hopes up when we first got this guy because I remembered 2008. But he mighta played 25 games at short since. We haven't consigned Scutaro to his proper utility role, which is what we needed to do, we haven't even got a guy that the team is likely to use to spell Scutaro regularly, and the team has announced point blank with this trade that they aren't going to pursue an actual upgrade at starting shortstop, so I'm just slightly miffed. I don't think we can win the big one with Scutaro at short.
  11. If it means that our 36 year old shorstop actually gets a day or two off, McDonald. Besides, he's done much better in the last couple months.
  12. Aviles in the outfield? WTFITS???? Aviles' only value -- at all -- is that he hits well FOR AN INFIELDER! I thought that one redeeming virtue of this trade was that it would buy Scutaro more rest! WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING THEO????
  13. And why did he have TJ surgery? What usually brings that on in a baseball player? It's not *gasp* throwing mechanics is it?
  14. Wow, a highlight play of a throw that anyone calling himself a shortstop ought to make. Especially with that much time to load up the throw. It's not exactly like he would have thrown out Brett Gardner or Curtis Granderson on the same play. That was not a strong throw. Just a sharply hit ball that bought him plenty of time to make a bogstandard third baseman play. He gets some credit though, for getting it there on the fly. God knows Adgon has had to field a couple of two-hoppers from Youk. He got hurt in 09 making throws from the hole. He's a second baseman by trade. He does not have a great arm for a shortstop, whatever one highlight play says.
  15. The difference is Aviles is healthy at the moment. Until Lowrie gets back they were in a position where they had to abuse the heck out of Scutaro, since apparently they didn't trust Navarro at short. It's also possible that they don't consider Lowrie a viable option at short either anymore.
  16. Well he's pulled some brainfarts in the field, that's for sure. Say what you want about Aviles, he's been around the block a few times.
  17. He's not a bad two way shortstop actually, but he's gotten hurt before making throws from the hole because his arm isn't strong. I guess arm at shortstop is something Theo doesn't bother worrying about.
  18. Navarro and a nobody to the Royals for Mike Aviles. Yikes. I guess they wanted a guy who could give Scutaro rest. Aviles isn't a bad utility man, but I think we came out second in this trade, considering how young Navarro was and how well he hit in the minors. Royals have holes at second and third, and Navarro has a clear path to start there, if he can get his bat to a point where he can hold the job. We could wind up regretting this one every time we see them for the next several years.
  19. Doesn't follow. They asked NYY for pitching or C because that's what they have in quantity. They might ask an outfielder from us. Or they might ask for Middlebrooks. Their 3B situation isn't wonderfully solid and a guy they can fast track to the bigs in the next 18mos would be valuable for them. The Yanks don't have a comp to WMB so they can't ask them for it..
  20. Lefthanded bat, not lefthanded outfielder. But then, I wouldn't have even given him Anderson for Carlos freaking Quentin.
  21. Because the Yankee rotation is crap so Yanks fans have rested their hopes on Novoa, while we treat Weiland like a throwaway piece because of our superior depth. Weiland is vastly underrated on this forum as a pitching prospect. He throws in the mid 90'[s and his offspeed stuff is good enough to offset that fastball. If he can just improve his command of that fastball a bit, he could be a winner for us. People like to mentally relegate him to the pen, but they did the same thing to Justin Masterson, and look how that panned out. People like to make safe predictions. Saves them from the horror of Being Wrong. I don't see any particular reason why Weiland can't crack the rotation if he gets his stuff together. The talent is certainly there.
  22. I'd forgotten that McCutchen was a former Yankee prospect. I honestly haven't followed Karstens or Kennedy, but the last time I looked at either I was underwhelmed. ' EDIT: Yeah, Kennedy's doing well -- out in the NL West, home of the biggest ballparks in baseball, while Masterson dominates a bandbox in the NL Central. I do give him full marks for doing the job he's paid to do in Arizona though, and I admit I underestimated him. I make no similar apology on the subject of Karstens. That's an illusion if ever there was one. He's a competent bottom of the rotation type, but this year is all BABIP.
  23. Be very, very wary of any prospect NYY is willing to trade. Not one of them has panned out properly in a very long time, I think the last guy to do anything meaningful was Marcus Thames. The Yankee development tree has far fewer successful branches than the Red Sox tree does at the moment. Not that Boston is any great shakes either but we do have successful players like David Murphy and Justin Masterson out there. What does NYY have? Pretty much Alfredo Aceves and Dioner Navarro. It's just not good business to do trades there.
