  1. Yeah, well they'll take their chances with a hot Drew over a luke warm Youk.
  2. Just as an aside... If you live out of the blackout area for your favorite team, as I do here in PA, MLB.tv is an excellent bargain. You can watch all out of market games live - even several at once (home or away feed). They updated the player and it is a very, very good quality. With the MLB.tv Premium, which cost about $119 at the beginning of the season, you get all the radio broadcasts for every game, as well, plus the new "At Bat" feature, which is like Gameday on the juice - with the radio broadcasts built right in. When you compare that to the Extra Innings package that my local cable provider offers ($250), the comparision is not even close... especially when you consider that with MLB.tv I can watch/listen anywhere I have a broadband connection and with Extra Innings it's only in one room of my home, one game at a time.
  3. I think the umps want to get this game over with... http://pix8.com/images/41246355932605130303.jpg Drew's strike out
  4. Thanks to TalkSox! I just found out I won one of the t-shirts. Yet another reason I love this joint! GO SOX!!!
  5. I disagree with this strongly! How can you possibly say that draft position has no bearing on how your success is graded. If you have fewer or no first round picks you start off at a disadvantage. If you end up drafting as well as a team with better pick spots, you obviously had to maneuver better than they did.
  6. Since Francona and Epstein have been in Boston the Red Sox have won 2 World Series (more than anyone else in that stretch) have been in the post season every year but one. The have something along the lines of a 25-16 post season record. I thing losing either of them at this point would be weapons-grade stupidity. Just my opinion.
  7. I agree that you have the right to make a bold prediction as long as you can take the flack. I disagree that the Rays winning would be good for baseball. They have the most pathetic fan base in all of baseball. They'll fill most seats in a playoff/world series run, but not all. Then, come next Spring, they'll have low attendance again. The best thing that could happen to baseball involving either Florida team would be if they moved. If I were to pick franchises where a World Series would be "good for baseball" I'd pick Pittsburgh, Chicago Cubs, Twins, in that order. Obviously, the first one is out of it for the foreseeable future.
  8. Perhaps I can offer a little advice to PWNdroia. First and foremost, even if the Sox only win 60 games this season, it still doesn't make your "prediction" credible. Fans who know what they are talking about know what the season is long and lots of Aprils look very different from the corresponding Junes, Julys, and so on. Saying they suck (especially in Spring Training) has all the finesse of guessing what number will come up when a die is rolled. It's a guess. More importantly, keep in mind that there are some basic kinds of TalkSox members. Elder Statesmen - The mods and those with lots, and lots, and lots, of posts. They have proven themselves over the years as worthy of at least deference, if not outright respect. They are the oil that makes this place the finely tuned machine it usually is. Sox Lovers - Those that love the Sox, love baseball, and do both as intelligently as possible. Sox Haters - Those that hate the Sox (usually Yankee fans) who love baseball, and do both as intelligently as possible. Trolls - Trouble makers who log in almost exclusively to stir up s***. Guys who don't really love anything but their own ******** and do very little, if anything, intelligently. Neophytes - Newbies, few posts, getting their feet wet on this site. They want to be (and may believe they are) serious and knowledgible, but sometimes need to defer to the Elder Statesmen. Eventually may develop into one of the previous three categories, though many simply fade away. Also, you have every right to you opinion, but you can't get all teary-eyed and threaten to quit because people disagree with you. What would be the point of this place if every one agreed? Most don't come here for everyone to pat each other on the back and talk about how cool it is to be us. We come here to chat about the Sox and baseball, and such. In that aspect, differing opinions are cool. But you gotta be able to take some s*** once in awhile, especially if you say post something as out there as a declaration of season failure in late March!
  9. I think they'll pick it up from here at some point, but I'm not sure.
  10. Here's a crappy stat. With a 1 or 2 run lead, Papelbon has a career 1.92 ERA. With a tie score, his ERA is 2.94.

  12. Let's try making the human one's accountable first, as in "you suck, you go to the minors." I'm betting that will work wonders.
  13. Oki is one-hopping almost everything.
  14. Lot's of full counts in this game. Joe West called and said to hurry the hell up.
  15. I hate umpires. Just saying. http://pix8.com/images/36142311701576552353.jpg
  16. That last pitch to Scutaro, my good friends, was not a strike.
  17. I can feel the love in here tonight!
  18. Navarro with that goofy hood on What a dork!
  19. Should've never sent him home with no one out!
  20. Balfour? Cool. It's been awhile since I've watched this whackjob talk to himself on the mound.
  21. It's hard to get excited over a play like that considering what we've seen so far.
