  1. Only 4.5 back heading into September, now I feel better...
  2. Just got back from work, why the heck wouldn't we go to Papelbon before Atchison? I understand the whole "save the closer for the lead away", but the best opportunity to win is by sending your best pitchers to the mound. This is just an instance of losing the game before being able to "use" Paps. In a game this important, you have to give yourself the best shot every inning, every pitch. If we take a lead and have to use another closer, fine, but I'm not losing the game with my best/2nd best pitcher still on the bench.
  3. I think it's sad when they use instant replay in the freakin' little leagues yet Bud refuses to open it up in the majors. The only way to fix this problem is to take the power out of the umpires hands. Umpires shouldn't be allowed to throw out a player over verbal arguments, it should only be for actions (charging the mound, throwing stuff, etc). Any umpire who argues with a player should be reviewed and suspended. I've never understood why players/managers can get thrown out for arguing balls/strikes. Just ignore them and move on.
  4. At this point we can't be satisfied simply "Not losing ground", we need to gain ground FAST. The problem is that the only way we make the playoffs is if the Yankees or Rays collapse. If they still play .600 ball, there is practically no way we can catch them. I just don't see those teams falling apart.
  5. They just need to give him a REALLY short leash. At the first sign of trouble he needs to get yanked. The problem is that Francoma is the manager...
  6. Enough with the excuses, its time for Beckett to man up.
  7. lol, again, I don't think MVP is up to THAT much interpretation. Set Values arent very interpretable. If he was in the discussion it would be one thing, but an MVP isn't something that can be personalized. Just because you like something/someone doesn't make it any more valuable. It's just the language I'm hung up on. If your saying "my" as in he would be your choice, then I'd counter and say you made a very poor choice. If your saying he means the most to you, well, that doesn't really have anything to do with an MVP. Then I'd ask, why does he mean the most? If it isn't out of pure performance, it would likely fall back to the "favorite" category, which I'd then suggest using instead of convoluting the term "MVP". So if that doesn't make sense or you don't agree, I guess we can just agree to disagree. SOOOOO, how about that great outing from Lackey!
  8. I don't have a problem with that! It's the misuse of terms that drives me crazy. I like Scutaro, I've already stated that. I wouldn't have a problem with anyone calling him their favorite player. However, I WOULD have a problem with someone calling him the team MVP, because he CLEARLY isn't. Again, it's a fairly absolute thing (value).
  9. I know, but I'd like to know why you decided on him being your MVP? I can understand saying he's your favorite, most under appreciated, table setter, etc, but MVP? I just don't think people should throw around MVP so loosely. Either a person is the single most valuable member of the team or their not. There really isn't much in between. I realize there are debates when several players had huge years, but Beltre pretty much stands alone out of the position players. I know you really don't care, I just can't stand when people try to personalize what "MVP" means.
  10. Scutaro the team MVP? Are you serious? Scutaro: Adj Runs above average: -5.7, UZR: -2.4, RAR: 17, WAR: 1.8 Beltre: Adj Runs above average: 27.3, UZR: 9.2, RAR: 55.1, WAR: 5.7 Scutaro: .275, .713 OPS, 40 RBI, w/ RISP: .307 BA, .808 OPS Beltre: .323, .922 OPS, 86 RBI, w/ RISP: .346 BA, 1.031 OPS I really like the way Scutaro has played this season, but calling him the team MVP so far is ridiculous. Beltre is clearly the MVP of this team (out of positional players). I agree that he should get a lot of credit for playing great so far this season and he has been a big part of the teams success, but lets not go overboard. He has made great contributions, but he isn't integral to the team.
  11. This could be a record breaking game. I don't know what is the most runs surrendered by the Sox in one game, this could very well challenge it.
  12. The football game is very relaxing. I'm
  13. 5-0. Wow, I guess they really want to make an emphasis that this home stand is the end of the season.
  14. I don't think I'll even watch this, I'm going to be checking out the Bengals/Eagles game.
  15. Ok, now that Pedroia is back on the DL, can we safely say it's over? There's no chance in hell they make the playoffs. If I had to bet between making the playoffs and an Alien invasion from mars... I'm betting on the aliens...
  16. Watching the Pats and just switch back to see that Beckett is up to his usual suck. What a waste of money. I just don't think he's as good as he was being billed. He's a 4.3 ERA pitcher in the AL, he might have been Elite in the NL but aside from 1 year, he is s*** in the AL>
  17. I agree, I can't stand the fact that religion is "off limits". I loved the Muhammad South Park episodes and was angered at Comedy Central for giving in and censoring a few episodes (although it could have been an inside joke) but we all saw the fallout from that. From a pure safety standpoint though, you're playing with fire with Muslims. While I'm a vocal atheist, I don't want to put a huge target on my back when it comes to people willing to kill themselves to prove a point. I've always wondered how we could get through to devout religious peoples (the stubborn, brainwashed, fundamental folk) and I fear it just may be impossible. So the question becomes, what do we do?
  18. The big difference is that Catholics (and Christians) at least pretend that they are tolerant where as the Muslims are straight up radical (convert or die). (Mostly in respect to the religion itself, not just people).
  19. How about the South American version of Freddie Krueger: http://misterirrelevant.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/julian-tavarez-closer.jpg http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/postedsports/031609tavarez.jpg
  20. I think Randy Johnson late in his career was the scariest mofo ever: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_BRoF0Cfublo/S0QPlb-yKPI/AAAAAAAAKQc/HaAVyvAZTyE/s400/1028_randy_johnson2_300_330+6.jpg I'd be afraid that would come flying out of my closet with an axe one night.
  21. You know who is really easy to mix up? http://janeheller.mlblogs.com/John%20Lackey.jpg and http://www.tailored.com.au/uploaded_images/horse-laugh-721137.jpg Actually, I think the horse has better teeth...
  22. They don't look anything alike...
  23. Nava brought the glove!
