  1. I really hope the go the development route and Larry keeps his mitts off the roster. Plugging in "names" does not work in the baseball world. I've done a little reading on Sands but I think I'm more of a novice on him. Whats the general consensus on him around here? Oh and pass on Either. I think Justin Upton would be a better bet. Upton may cost more prospect wise but comes with a better contract. Ethier's contract might very well become and albatross.
  2. http://espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story/_/id/8595739/john-farrell-boston-red-sox-likes-rick-peterson-pitching-coach-source-says Looks like it could really be Peterson. He was one of the guys on my list, so I would like this move a lot.
  3. Cabrera is interesting, but he's not controlled for much longer and is going to get expensive. And like I've said before I think the Sox should go with the youngsters at SS and look to upgrade elsewhere. I don't see the reason the Tribe should rush to trade Masterson. And I doubt Francona wants to see him go. If they are going to trade him they might as well see if he can have a good first half and raise his stock. If they wait and he pitches the same I don't think it will decrease his value so much that they could not get something similar to what they could get this off season. That said if the Tribe is set on getting rid of him and the price tag is not too high then I think it would be a good move to get him back with Farrell. Even if he's not a SP he would most likely be a valuable BP member.
  4. I know I haven't been around in awhile but is this what Talksox has turned to? A bunch of premature threads so they can be the first in line to lob the first volley at the FO for not picking up a SP that had some serious red flags after the Cubs pulled Marmol back even though he was willing to go? My GF who is a casual fan at best said an I quote "why would the cubs do that? Doesn't Marmol suck?". Something smells fishy and I ain't just talking about Lackey's fish tacos.
  5. Hamilton is not what this team needs. He's too much of a risk. And don't get me wrong, I'm a Hamilton supporter. But NY and Boston are not places this guy should try and continue his career in. This team is rebuilding. There is no sense in spending 100M+ on one player when there are many holes to plug. And I think that is what the team is doing, they know they are rebuilding and they aren't going to commit big money to anything other then young elite talent for more then 2 years. It's my guess that they offered Ross 1(with an option) or 2 years at a lesser AAV and stuck to it, to which Ross responded to them as "not getting close on a deal" and now he's on the open Market. And to be honest with a rebuilding team there was no reason to commit to a good not great player for more then 1 or two seasons. I'm sure Ross felt he would get a longer deal 3 possibly 4 years from some desperate team, which he might very well be right. We will see. I was all for Haren, but the fact that Marmol was willing to waive his NTC and Chicago pulled the deal back and the Angels could find not taker for what at minimum is a solid back end of the rotation innings eater on a 1 year deal as extremely peculiar. There is more to this story then I think we all know. It just doesn't add up. The only reasons could be somethings wrong or worrying physically with Haren or Theo was in it because Boston was in it. he was jacking up the price and when it came down to his deal being the one the Angels wanted he backed out. Rumors are that Ellsbury is being shopped. I think this is the right move. They shouldn't give him away but if they wait for Hamilton to sign there could be some teams willing to part with something of value. I sa w a Ellsbury for Andrus if Hamilton leaves Texas floating around. I don't see the point in it unless Andrus gets flipped elsewhere. If it was just Andrus it would be the same situation as now. One year, not likely to sign, fill SS hole, make a hole in CF. The Sox already have to young SS options in Iglesisas and maybe eventually Bogaerts. So even trading and trying to extend seems unlikely. Maybe a 3 team deal including Toronto where Ellsbury goes to Texas, Andrus to Toronto and JP to Boston? I'm literally just throwing stuff out there so no one get to offended Personally I'd package Ellsbury and Aceves together and see what offers come in.
  6. They can bring back Youk if it's late in the off season and there isn't a better option. I tend to lean toward the side of this team needs to move forward.
  7. The Soriano situation is interesting. NYY probably would offer him the most $ but he won't go back there if Mo is the closer. But NY has no idea if Mo is coming back. If Mo is really done(I'm not sure one way or the other) then I think you might see a Soria or a Madson in NY for a year. I also think the Sox will be in on these types as well. If only there was some way to get Cashman delusional enough to make Valverde an offer
  8. If he stays I will be happy to see him back. If they let him walk and collect a pick and use the DH position in other ways I'm ok with that too. Ortiz has done too much for too long to be bitter if he wants to go join a Texas type team to take a another shot at a WS titles in his last couple years in the league. I'd rather he not sign with NYY though. That i would probably have a bad taste in my mouth until he retired
  9. Ciracio should be the Utility guy and even though I'm usually all about grooming players I kinda hope they take Iglesias and Bogaerts in ST and say " one of you go win the job". Young talented players are producing and learning on the job in Baseball today. If the team is going the youth route then throw them all out there together, let them get their bumps together, let them learn to win together. Hopefully the youth brings some energy to this team.
  10. Hi all, I haven't been around in awhile, but plan to come and add what I can to the madness First off a quick catch up, I was really busy with my baseball team's this summer and added onto that I've been taking a sort of integration course because as most of you know I'm living in the Netherlands. So that's taken up most of my time recently. Good news is my Baseball team won our class's Championship and next year will be playing in a higher division and I just found out I have passed my course and no longer need to attend the school:thumbsup: So that means a little more free time to get back on here and yuck it up with the usual suspects. Sooooooo much BS to sift through.... I will just try to keep it short and sweet on my current views of all things Red Sox, The season was an abject disaster, we all have our own ideas why, which most hold some water. But I'm not going to beat this dead horse too much. BV as manager of the Red Sox is one of those epic failures that which there is almost nothing positive to be salvaged by this experience. The only thing I can think of is that it was soooo bad maybe the next time the team has a good manager we will be happy. In hindsight it seems Farrell was always the choice. Boston must have felt last winter Toronto was not going to extend him thus making him available in 2 seasons. The length of BV's contract. Maybe BV was a punishment to us all lol I like Farrell as the new manager. If only for the fact maybe he can possibly get Lester back on track. This team needs an Ace, not a couple guys with Ace potential. Pitching coach: Rick Peterson, Mike Maddux, Greg Maddux, Orel Hershiser(sp?), Dave Duncan are all names and people I think could hep. Obviously they are going to need to be on the same page as Farrell. My outside the Box pick, Pedro Martinez. The Storyline just seems to entetaining. Hitting Coach, Madagan did a good job in Boston. But going to Texas is smart as he is more accustomed to a veteran line up I think. This is a spot I think the Sox should try and find someone who's been in the game recently. Not like last season but recent. Someone the young players are going to be able to connect to. A new face. No one comes to mind right off. The Trade.... I watched a Sox game at Fenway 3 days before it happened, if it had happened before I saw my game I may have been a little ticked. Overall I like what it has done for this team. Adrian was good, not great, the fact the packaged CC with him was a brilliant move regardless of how CC performs in LA, which I actually think he will return closer to normal carrer averages. But the contract was so God awful that any chance that came along to get out from under it was a no brainer. Punto was a nobody. Beckett is one of my all time favorites for personal reasons, but it was time for him to go. I love the flexibility the move has given the Franchise. I hope the spend wisely. To be honest I hope they go the route of trying to develop a high percentage of the talent on the roster and/or using that develop talent to acquire more established controlled talent through trades. And only use free agency to finish off the product or when a no doubter comes along. Which I don't see any of those this off season. Josh Hamilton has issues and is on the wrong side of 30. Grienke is too much of an unknown for a 100M deal. I think the Sox will look for more short term deals. Guys like Soria, Madson, Haren, and Floyd are guys I expect to be linked to the Sox. A bigger name that I am guessing will pop up in Justin Upton. He's on a fairly decent deal and would be a nice RH power threat in the lineup. If it doesn't work out in Boston well the team has shown that no one is unmovable and can ship him elsewhere. SS...... To me it seems like with a young team defense will be important. So that would lead me to Iglesias. Ciriaco is a good ball player. But he may best be suited as a Utility player. Bogaerts is the wild card here. The team really needs to decide if SS is his true position or get training in whichever other position the Red Sox need. The Kid is athletic, I'm confident he can adapt to another position. 2B and 3B for the next coupe years are set IMO with Pedroia and Middlebrooks. CF will have Ellsbury(if hes not traded which if the right deal is there I'm all for) and Bradley Jr. there after I think most of us hope. That leaves, SS, LF, RF 1B. I am usually all for grooming young players, but if this team is going the youth route then I say let them all get there bumps together and build a young core that's battled tested together. Well I think that should be enough to catch me up, I will try and join in the ongoing conversations
  11. Ya you really don't want to hear any kind of surgery in the shoulder region. It's just so hit or miss whith surgeries. I'm sure at some point they might get them down to a science like TJS. But right now like you said Jacko its a crap shoot. And for the other Yankee fans on this board that are kind of just brushing this off you should know it's serious by Jacko's responses. When he almost immediately resigns to what the Sox fans are saying, it's usually bad news. So will the surgery re-attach the torn part or does there have to be some sort of replacement?
  12. The labrum surgery is what TJS used to be, it was the kiss of death to a career and if you recovered from it you were considered lucky. This is about the worst thing a pitcher can here. Anyone rememeber the ESPN commercial with Kenny Mayne where he asks the guy about his labrum tear and the player didn't know and starts crying? Will this ruin the Yankees? No. But if this happened to the Red Sox player that had that much promise and who they traded such a promising talent for I would be absolutely gutted.
  13. The Yankees might sell for as much but not more. They don't own the land where NYS is. The Dodgers own the stadium land and surrounding land which makes up for a decent chunk of that 2 Billion price tag. Me personally I think it's absurd they went for that much, but this is what happens in an auction. And the only reason it went to auction is because of how bad Mcdouchebag screwed everything up. The most disgusting part of the whole deal is Mcdouchebag will still make money off the parking. It's amazing that he ran a storied franchise into the ground after buying it on credit and now walks away with a cash deal for the team for like 4X what he paid for it. I can't believe stupidity can get rewarded like this.
  14. I always liked Tom Brunansky when I was a kid. El Guapo was a favorite as well. Are Mike Greenwell and Troy O'leary too good for this list?
  15. Tim Naehring was always a favorite of mine growing up.
  16. AL East Yankees Red Sox -6 Rays -7 Blue Jays -7.5 Orioles -20 AL Central Tigers White Sox -8 Royals -8 Guardians -9 Twins -12 AL West Angels Rangers -1 Athletics -5 Mariners -10 NL East Braves Phillies -.5 Nationals -3 Marlins -3 Mets -20 NL Central Reds Brewers -1.5 Cardinals -2 Pirates -5 Astros -15 NL West Giants Diamondbacks -2 Rockies -4 Padres -8 Dodgers -10
  17. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7709195/barring-snag-peyton-manning-picks-denver-broncos-sources-say So he goes for snowboarding over trollie cars and having a good ol time. My obvious joke aside Denver is the winner it seems. SF had the best team, wonder if how much control he would have had over the offense and the type of football Harbaugh wants(tough, hard hitting). Tennessee was probably close but they have a crap unexciting offense weapons other the CJ and Britt but he's coming off of injury. Some how I think Miami botched this. He lives in Miami, but then they trade Marshall and don't sign Wayne. Im glad though. Miami is scarier with Manning. That's just my take.
  18. Zito would get pwned in the AL East. He would be a waste of roster space. I think Padilla is most likely, although i would like to see Prince Felix step up and take the spot. Oswalt will sign eventually when some team SP's get hit with the injury bug.
  19. Crawford should get an MRI and should not pick up a bat until all the swelling has gone down and continue to do drills without aggravating the wrist. I think it's better to miss the time now and heal right, then to hurry back before he is ready and have the issue linger all season. He doesn't get bonus points for playing opening day with 1.5 wrists. He needs to take his time and come back 100% or close to it. The Sox have some guys that can play for the first few weeks of the season if need be.
  20. I would love for the Yanks to drop 5 years and 80M in Martins lap. I doubt it will happen though. I don't see anyone giving Martin on the open market more the 4-5 years at 10-12M, and I like Martin. While I don't see Martin getting Molina money, this probably did raise the bar a bit for what he will ask in any extension talks or when he hit's FA.
  21. His stance last year was extreme for a slap hitting softball player. I'm glad he's closed it up. Hopefully this helps his flailing swing.
  22. Thanks for everything you gave the Red Sox franchise Tek! You are a class act. I would love to see him on the coaching staff. I'm not sure he is going to want to go straight into coaching. SOme players need time away from the game to get over the fact they aren't out there playing. They say the 2-3 years after retirement are the hardest.
  23. Jacko, I believe Tek would qualify for his # being retired per the Red Sox "rules" when it comes to retiring #'s. I believe it's 10 years with the team(check) and a WS title(check). Now it's really on the ownership if they want to do it or not. I would be ok with it. Someone from those championship teams should be retired. I believe with this season it gives Ortiz 10. So he might be looking at having his # retired down the road. I would be ok with him getting his # retired as well.
