  1. Not anymore. It's not George's Yankees. They are on a budget that they couldn't even fit Martin and 17M into. They would have to dump someone. And Mauer and his contract is actually a pipe dream for Yankees now. Everyone needs to get used to it. LAD is the new $ threat in MLB. It's going to be interesting to see how Yankee fans react. Most have never known a team that could spend and is willing to spend more then them. They all might have identity crisis's
  2. Ya that's the rumored Sox #1 target. No one from the team has come out and said he was. Nor would I expect them to. Truth is we are going off rumors, and rumors are rumors for a reason. Who knows, maybe the Sox aren't interested in Napoli?
  3. Floyd would be a good add. He's not a front line guy, but he's a good mid-back end SP.
  4. I don't think he was implying he would take a discount. Just a scenario in which he comes down from his rumored current asking price.
  5. I think guys like Iglesias and Kalish if healthy will be given a shot to take over full time spots next year. I'm also leaning toward the idea of them signing 1/3 of those 2nd tier FA's. I don't think Laroche will sign here knowing that as soon as a better option comes along, Boston is likely to trade him away again. At this point he is at the very end of his prime and the Sox would probably end up paying for more of what he's done then what he's going to do. I said earlier in the off season there was 3 avenues the Sox could take, go big(Grienke, Hamilton), that doesn't seem likely anymore. Field a competitive team with shorter deal FA's(Napoli, Swisher, Ross, Haren, so on) that would reduce the teams current roster flexibility. Or go the youth movement and save their money and look to spend it later in the season-future off season(s) for trades or different FA options. With Napoli and Swisher rumors and Lester being called about it seems the other 2 options are still possibilities at this point. We will see here soon which is the more likely path this off season.
  6. That was their excuse, not mine lol
  7. I haven't had to see you spin anything in awhile
  8. Your worried about the old Yankees. NY is cutting payroll by 10% to gut under the LT. This isn't George at the helm anymore. Russel Martin at 2/17m is extremely good value and he was one of the best catching options available and NY of all places let him get away. That speaks volumes to me. The Dodgers are the team writing blank checks now.
  9. They claimed to not be able to match the Pirates offer of 17m, but you see them getting Napoli?
  10. Napoli and Swisher are better fits on the Red Sox because of ther versatility and RHH ability. So I'm fine with an extra year for them. I don't see Laroche as a good fit and don't see any reason to offer him more then one year. Which probably doesn't get him, but I'd rather seem some sort of Gomez/Sands platoon instead of Laroche. I don't dislike the guy, I just don't like the fit.
  11. It's reported that didn't have the money to match the offer. Looks like the Yanks may be handcuffed finically like the Red Sox last season? That's a weird thought
  12. I'd rather they not lock into Laroche long term. I think Laroche signs with Baltimore.
  13. Vargas is interesting but Niese would get eaten alive in the AL.
  14. I think a winter and ST to prepare as a RP will help. I'm not selling on Bard yet.
  15. Good deal for the Nats. They get their CF, Harper moves to a COF spot and they either trade Morse or move him to 1B. On the Twins side they have depth in the OF coming up, 2 top 100 prospects if I remember correctly. But the lack Impact pitching. Meyer is young and only in A ball but he a very nice prospect to get back in the deal and really what the Twins needed.
  16. I'd shop Aceves hard. If someone bit on Atchinson then take it and run. Love seeing him in spring training though, he always looks like he spent the whole winter on a beach drinking beer I'd like them to keep Morales and I'm not against him getting a full season shot at SP. I'd like to see Bailey and Bard kept, but if the return was significant enough I wouldn't be upset. But most of those guys are add ins,
  17. Nats just traded for Span. If they sign Laroche, Morse could be available. I wouldn't mind him in LF/1B.
  18. Well to be honest, the Red Sox hat have been thrown in on every FA this off season just because they have money to spend. They might have just been doing the ol due diligence and it's getting reported because it's the Red Sox.
  19. But the owners are pocketing all our moneyZ if they don't spend it now!!!!! All joking aside it's hard to say which direction they are going in until a few more signings happening that help shape the off season outlook. Right now there's just so many different ways to go it's making everyone antzy haha
  20. Ok I laughed too
  21. Ya I don't like Dempster at all in the AL East. He shat the bed in Texas.
  22. People seem to get a lot more done face to face. Being able to get a feeling on whether a guys is truly available. Something that may be more difficult over the phone or through e-mail. That and I imagine a fair amount of drinking goes on lol
  23. I mentioned it this morning but it kind of got glazed over, but the Angels are shopping Walden. Dude had a 11.1 K/9 last season. Bard, Bailey and Walden makes for a promising back end of the BP.
  24. Fox is paying the Dodgers 200M a year. 3x what NESN brings the Red Sox. They are the new financial Juggernaut. First time in my baseball life that some team could outspend the Yankees.
  25. In the case of the Red Sox I would think it does. I don't think that's the case for the LA teams now. It be interesting to know what they bring in per game on average for a season.
