I think this will lead to Salty being dealt at the meetings. CWS, CHC, NYM and Seattle all looking for a starting C or someone to platoon at C.

Thoughts? I can't see any draw backs at 3 years? Even if he bombs it's movable or in the worst case only 3 years to get through.

He know has two surgically repaired hips? Wow good luck with that. He has to be a full time DH when he comes back right? I know the Yankes didn't want to clog up the DH spot but they are going to need to keep him as healthy as possible? I wonder if that would lead to Cano to 3B and Jeter to 2B eventually(if Drew/Nunez take over SS)?

Mets fans were delusional thinking they would get some top prospects for him. No one is giving anything of note for an old knuckler. I think they are stuck with him. it's the catch 22 with a knuckleball pitch. He can have a great season and win a Cy Young, but you can't sell him as a Cy Young award #1 SP. No GM is buying that.

They aren't getting the same haul they gave up. Garza is now more suspect health wise and controlled for less time then when he was traded the first time. I suggested a Salty-Cecchini-Workman deal. Cubs get a C for the ML team. Something they need. And two top 10 prospects.

I'm just saying what Lester has done over the last couple years is not irreplaceable. And normally I'm hesitant to want to give up a more proven asset like Lester for prospects. Myers is just a unique situation.

Because even with Lester it has the chance of being a bad rotation. Besides I think they could bring someone like Haren and get similar production for the next couple years. They could always re-sign him in 2 years when Myers, Bogaerts, Bradley, Barnes, De la Rosa and Webster are ready to contribute.

As far as spending money paths go it looks pretty good. They would have considerable money coming off the books next year, followed by Lester, Ortiz, Gomes, Ross. So the move would not hurt roster flexibility going forward either. As long as they don't give up anyone important to get Garza, I can't really find any reason to argue your proposal. edit: Salty+Cecchini+Workman for Garza? I'm not a huge Garza fan but I wouldn't be upset over a package built similar to that to acquire him.
