  1. Yes he would be a depth option. I think it be foolish to pencil him into the rotation. Ideally it be nice to stash him in AAA, but I think someone will give him a ML deal.
  2. Wish there was some way for the Sox to get him. He's exactly the type of front line SP they need. They have the money to extend him too. I just don't see any way TB does that. 3 way deal maybe but even then I think they would rather send him out of the division.
  3. I thought the same thing when I saw his name on the non tendered list.
  4. So what if they finish last a couple season in a row while rebuilding? Is the fan base going to dry up and they will have to consider moving the franchise? It's not the end of the world. And just to be clear, they could get Sanchez and still finish in last place.
  5. Adding Wilson for mid season depth would be good move. Other teams are going to be interested and I read he wants to play in LA.
  6. From what I read Hanson's shoulder is a worry. And when it comes to the Braves and trading pitching I'm always weary. That's an organization that knows pitching. A wise man once said "beware of Braves bearing gifts"
  7. You guys may be looking at this wrong. The Sox didn't just let Papelbon go. They were so financially strapped with the Crawford, Agon, Beckett and Lackey deals they were not able to match or even overpay to keep Papelbon in town. I mean really, they had to trade Scutaro to be able to sign Ross. Where was the extra 15M per year coming from to match Phillies offer? Now if the team had the financial flexibility it has now, I think they had a better chance of matching or even overpaying a bit to bring him back.
  8. Yup, but that's life in general lol But you have to weigh the risks and I think Sanchez at 90M+ is just too risky. But that's me.
  9. Haren and Marcum make sense. Grienke is in another universe $ wise. Not saying he is impossible to get. But I would be pretty surprised. Nats and LAD are going to start and East coast West coast war over him
  10. We know who the FA's are likely to be. But you have to consider trades too. Some Pitcher that's not available now could be later. There's an inherit risk in both paths. I will leave you with this, the last time the Red Sox went out and spent on questionable SP because they were the best available at that time and for the foreseeable future....... we got John Lackey. Just sayin
  11. No what they need to do is not blow their resources on guys like Sanchez now. But wait and see how Lester, Buch, and Lackey rebound. If they are looking strong, then you can look to add to those guys later in the season. If 2/3 of those guys don't bounce back then having Sanchez is a waste. There's no point in risking it. Like I said, you make this move as a finishing piece on a legit contender. Not when your team is praying for 3/5 of the starting rotation to bounce back.
  12. Why doesn't Cervelli get a shot?
  13. Braves non tendered Jurrjens. I hope the Sox take a shot on him.
  14. I know, those words coming out of their mouths didn't make sense lol So is Romine(sp?) ready to take over full time or did you mean Cervalli? I read they aren't interested in AJ or Napoli.
  15. I think he just misjudged Sanchez's swollen value as he's the #2 SP available at a time when it's thin. That fact alone probably gets him an extra year at 15M. I can totally see LAD coming in and torpedoing everyone on Sanchez if they miss out on Grienke.
  16. If Sanchez is the best pitcher on the team, the team is going no where. So there be little point in having him and his contract now. Sanchez is a guy you add when your a piece or two away from truly being a contender. He's not a piece you sink a s*** load of money on and build around. IMO the Nats are building momentum for Grienke. If LAD misses out on Grienke, they won't miss on Sanchez. LAD is Sanchez best shot at a 90-100M deal. The Nats could also pursue hard if they are the ones to miss out on Grienke. I was hopefully early on the Sox might be able to get these guys. But I think those players markets are going to balloon past the Red Sox comfort zone.
  17. a SP for RP straight trade? I would have thought Hanson could have brought back more. Odd move IMO.
  18. Low to mid 90's FB and a good change up. The guy had some success in the not so distant past. 150 IP of 2.96 ERA ball, '09 215 IP 2.60 ERA. I mean you have to have decent "stuff" to manage that right? Maybe instead I should have said he has a "decent arsenal" instead of stuff? I mean as non tendered guys go, he seems like one that has some measurable upside.
  19. I was thinking the same. He's got good stuff, young, does have a bit of an injury history. But he's being non tendered for a reason. I would like to see the Sox get him.
  20. Papelbon's contract is ugly. He got paid like Mo and he's not Mo.
  21. I can see that too but if someone shows interest and offers something nice they should do it. I do like his versatility though, but he seems as volatile as Julian Tavarez
  22. On a one year deal 8M is not alot. Not sure what CWS are going to want for Floyd? It can't be too over the top I would think. But nothing is going to happen on that front unless the White Sox sign another pitcher.
  23. Ya that's how I see it too. I think they will shop Aceves too.
  24. They will obviously bring in some SP. I just think it could come after Napoli/Position player signing. Only because that player is more valuable and likely to go quicker then the SP market they might be interested in(the one year guys, Haren, McCarthy). Grienke is not likely. Sanchez wants too much. Edwin Jackson is good but meh. After that it drops of to the one year guys(they shouldn't even consider Dempster or Lohse IMO). Is it worth it to spend all their times on those one year types and ignore the more valuable position player market just because SP is more of a need?
  25. You guys are arguing different things. You say Napoli is #1 target. Jung see's the #1 need as SP so inherently Napoli can't be the #1 target. How you all need to look at it as Napoli > Grienke/Sanchez when considering how much they want in terms of years and $. Then Napoli is probably then still more of a value then the 2nd tier pitching market. So again he remains the #1 priority still even though the teams main need is Pitching.
