  1. Can you imagine Jeter getting his 3,000 hit in a Cardinals uniform or something lol. I can see why the Yankees are playing hardball. But from Jeter's view, this team has done nothing but bend over and take it by overpaying other teams FA's for years. So why wouldn't he think they would cave to him?
  2. I already stated earlier that if the above was the Sox lineup going into next season, I still believe they would be competitive. The Sox don't need to have a top 5 talent at every position to be competitive. The rotation should be good. And as long as they add a couple BP arms they could be fine. you never know. They kay hold onto their pieces now and make a move for Agon at the deadline when his price comes down. Which it will if the trading team is only guaranteed a couple months of his service. All I'm saying is we can't judge the tam on just the moves the make over the next couple months. It's bigger picture, it's the moves the make over the next 12 months that will set this team up for it's next big run.
  3. I don't know why people consider Beltre as a possibility. 1. He had to be talked into coming to Boston last season. 2. He wants to be on the WC. 3. His agent is Scott Boras, so he won't be taking a discount. 4.The Red Sox have said their top offer will be 4/52M. And Oakland has already gone over that. I'm not one to close a case early, especially when the player's name isn't on a contract yet. But this just seems very standard to me and I think it will be much more of a shock if he is actually on the team next season. As far as fans losing interest. So be it, RSN could use a good purge of the "Pink Hat" crowd. The Red Sox will still sell out. All the true fans that have been blocked out recently by the pink hats, will finally get their chance to come back in to Fenway. And as far as costs of tickets. Well if you want them to spend near the luxury tax or over and still placate to the nostalgic side and keep Fenway around, that's something your just gonna have to deal with and ultimately pay for.
  4. My 2 cents, The team may not get all the shiny new toys that sometimes I really hope they get. But if they are making the playoffs and are having a shot at a WS title run 4/5 years, I find it hard to complain at all about anything they do or don't do in running the Franchise. Most fans would give their left nut to be in the playoffs 4/5 seasons. Their track record is consistent, so I see no reason to change my view.
  5. Nor would most fans for that matter. Probably why there haven't been too many fans running MLB teams in recent memory .
  6. Kalish plays RF, Youk plays 3B and I'm sure they can find an in house option for Catcher. And if not it's not hard to find a stop gap C on the market. FA is not the only option to fill your roster.
  7. It's amazing how many people turn into "Chicken Little" when something happens.
  8. Oh if they cheap out on Agon I'll be screaming my head off. I am ok with all these moves if it leads to Agon. If not, I will have a completely different outlook on these recent events.
  9. And it's reported they are playing hardball with Mo as well. Not saying things won't eventually get done, but it's been a bit rockier then I thought it would be.
  10. The Patriots aren't cheap. Their as well run organization as there is in sports. They make smart tough decisions. And hardly are ever on the wrong end of any deal.
  11. The Sox need a 1 year stop gap at 1B. Lee fits that mold. Konerko does too but he's going to want multi years and that doesn't work for the Sox long term plans. Unless he will DH in 2012. It's not as though they are skipping out on the bill. I believe they have something like 130-140M already committed to next season. Which will put them in the top 5 I'm sure. They are not cheap. They are smart. They have been right about a lot of these typs of deals. Pedro, Lowe, Manny, Bay, Damon. Peopled pissed and moaned for the first year or so those playrs where gone, but soon enough saw what the FO had already seen and started to realize they where right. There view of V-Mart is that he can't stick at Catcher for the duration of his deal and is not worth it, as his production at 1B/DH is less then when he plays catcher. I see no reason to doubt them now.
  12. This will make him more attractive to Boston IMO.
  13. I don't care about the teams profit. I only care about what's on the field. And until their expenditures outside of payroll(posting fee's, Stadium upgrades, the purchase of an English football team) effect their ability to spend on the payroll itself, I don't give 2 rat turds about any of it. My view will always be Dice-K is on a 6/52M deal. As far as I'm concerned Henry and company might as well have taken a 52M trip to Japan just to pick him up . If the rules where different and his deal pushed them to the luxury tax and kept them from signing other talent(because we know they don't typically like to break the LT by a lot), thus resulting in them not not being competitive, then I would have an issue with it.
  14. It's irrelevant because it doesn't count against the budget for other roster moves. I'm not saying it's not a huge chunk of change. Just that to me it's falls more in lines with stadium upgrades, you know that sort of thing. Yes it cost the club money, but it doesn't effect the payroll. See where I'm coming from? The only money I am concerned with when comparing players contracts and worth is their AAV. Which counts towards the luxury tax. That is the important number that all other on field baseball decisions are made off of. And those are the only ones I really care about.
  15. Who cares if it's "wasted"? So some billionaires wasted 52M, big whoop. It has no bearing on the operating budget for the teams payroll, which is what is important. When it comes to payroll, luxury tax, operating budget for filling out the teams roster, the 52M is meaningless. Now if Theo comes out and says well we would like to go after this guy but we can't because of all the money we had to pay in Dice-K's posting fee, then I will have an issue. But until then, that 52M is irrelevant to me. But that's just my opinion.
