  1. I'd say it was unquestionably Mariano. What a lot of people are doing here is listing great players that they saw play once or twice when they came to visit their home stadium. I saw Bonds hit a mammoth homerun once. Was he the greatest I ever saw play? No. I saw one game of his live. I've seen over 100 games in which Mariano pitched. He's succeeded at a rate well above the average. I've seen him mow down opponents and make it look easy. I saw him pitch his heart out against the Sox in 2003 in Game 7. I saw him dominate in the 90's as a setup man...and dominate nearly 15 years later as a closer. No player I've seen dominated more or succeeded more. He gets my vote.
  2. The only thing I didn't get was where was Ramirez?
  3. Dude, how can you possibly blame Tito for this one? He took an ancient pitcher in Smoltz out of the game when it seemed in hand. The same pitcher had just come back from surgery and could use some rest. Any manager in baseball should have done that. He basically threw everything out there, in the correct pecking order....Masterson, Delcarmen, Okajima, Saito, and then Paps. They didn't do the job. Put this loss 100% on the players.
  4. I don't know... CC: 3.55 ERA, 1.09 WHIP 78Ks/109 IP Beckett:3.48 ERA 1.23 WHJP 94Ks/98 IP I don't know...I'd basically call that a wash. By the way...it's Fire Cashman, not Girardi. I actually like Girardi and thinks he does a decent job. He's finally gotten the pitchers in their roles, and he's burned out some of the garbage [Veras, Ramirez, Tomko] and found some reliable arms [Hughes, Aceves, Coke]. The emergence of Hughes [pleasant surprise so far, emphasis on "so far"] and the steadiness he's found in Coke and Aceves, this pen is rounding out to be one of the better pens in the game when coupled with Bruney and Mariano...which is pretty much what I thought all along. People kill Girardi, and although I don't know what goes on behind the scenes, the Yankees are no longer playing station-station baseball, and they're not losing a reliever a season to arm troubles like they did under Torre. We'll see I guess.
  5. Did you just join yesterday? I don't know man...Bergenson has been solid this year, but I have never seen him pitch. 1.22 WHIP but a low K/IP ratio. Beckett is either putrid or awesome. Edge: Sox...but you never know. Sometimes you blow a 10-1 lead in less than two innings.
  6. Hopefully, this team will crash for a bit after this crushing loss and we can close the gap a bit.
  7. How do you go 0-2 on Youk and then hit him?
  8. Pedroia had a career year last year.
  9. My team has won six in a row, and I've barely showed up because I've been busy. I LOVE IT!!! If it holds, 2 1/2 back...and closing. We'll be back in first by the All-Star break.
  10. I'm so jealous that Papelbon is so much better than Rivera.
  11. I'm not at the game. Watching at home. Leaving early...yeah, I've been known to do that. When you go to 40-50 games a year, sometimes you leave early. I have a ten run rule. Either way, if a team goes up by ten runs, I'm outta there.
  12. This game is over. Great Adventure during the day, Yankee win at night. Good day.
  13. No one wants a closer or two for an OFer? Anyone?
  14. Just proving that he's an idiot.
  15. Weren't these the same Mets that took two out of three in Fenway?
  16. They had it...and then they lost it. Good effort, but they had to push more when they had the lead.
  17. Gardner? He only has a .406 OBP, 25 total bases and 8 steals in the last month. Find me a player who's out there who is better... Maybe that explains why I'm ahead of all of you guys in the standings except for Keeper.
  18. Someone has to have a need for RP. I'm not asking for an All-Star, just someone better than Milton Bradley or Brett Gardner.
  19. At least we won.
  20. Anyone? Come on, some one can spare a decent OF for a closer.
  21. Somebody wanted Veras???????
  22. f***ing unreal. This is like the Nationals coming back to win it all this year.
