Back to Gonzalez....it's a great fit...but you know who would be an even better fit?
Jose Reyes. Assuming he comes back healthy, I can't see a better fit in all of baseball. Reyes would be the best shortstop you've possibly ever had a dynamic force at the top of the lineup. The Mets could rebuild with the prospects you give them, and pretty much anyone you give them would fill a need since the Mets farm system is not only putrid, but the only positions they don't need depth for are 3B and CF.
I don't understand why this was never explored. Not now, since Reyes is hurt...but in general. Couple with the fact that you got rid of Lugo's salary, the timing later this year or in the off-season would be ideal.
