If Kotchman is not traded in another deal, this deal makes no sense. Kotchman is a better defender. However, Laroche is a better hitter and has very strong second halves, as seen by his career splits. His second half splits are as follows for his career: BA OBP SLG OPS .295 .356 .544 .899 Bad move by the Sox.

This team is poised to go far with a top three of CC, AJ, and Joba. I wouldn't mind seeing a starter instead of Mitre, but I think we'll see a lot of activity at the waiver deadline. A lot of teams that are pretenders who thought themselves as contenders will be selling, and you'll see some movement then.

I think you gave up a lot in Buchholz for Martinez [if that's what you gave up]. He's not much of a catcher, and is his offense really much more than Ortiz to make it worthwhile? I'm not so sure.

Here is what I believe. Ortiz made a career due to steroids. He was a s***** hitter in Minnesota, then went to Boston, a haven of steroid users [just like New York, both teams]. He's nearly cut by the Sox, does steroids, becomes Superman. Bonds, Manny, and Arod were great hitters before roids. McGwire, Sosa, and Palmeiro were good players who became great because of roids. Ortiz was a s***** player who became great after roids. No matter what, it is a sad day for baseball. One of the all-around "good" guys got busted. I tell you...the only three guys I would be shocked about that involves our teams are Mo, Jeter and Varitek. Mo, because..well, he doesn't have the frame, his religious convictions, and he's my favorite player. Jeter and Tek because I hold our respective team captains to a higher standard and I don't believe they would demean their positions [i hate the Red Sox, but I respect them as a team and an organization, along with their history and tradition]. Ortiz is a fraud, always was and always will be. Same thing with all steroid users, my team players as well. Do I root for Arod? Yes. Do I root for him as hard as I used to after his admission?
