  1. ORS, don't even try. He's convinced Cashman is a visionary. When Cashman takes a s***, Jacko believes its a dozen roses. I've tried, he just won't see reason. 87 MPH fastball....does....not....cut it. Develop it all you want, but unless Kennedy gets that fastball up to 92, he will be forever known as the guy the Yankees wouldn't trade for Santana. My only hope was that this non-deal would end the tenure of the most over-rated GM in my Yankee fandom's history. Sadly, it looks like it will continue. I LOVE MISTY MAY-TREANOR!
  2. Kilo, you're too sharp to do the payroll thing. The Yankees were not setup to take the injuries that we took. Your FO understood the age thing better, and losing Schilling was a given. If Wang was hurt before spring training, it's easier to compensate than during the season.
  3. No, not really. We didn't go 86 years without winning and always lose to the Red Sox. It's just that this team isn't assembled right, and we can only win a series when we are at home against teams like the Royals. You know, I am not pulling a Hank Steinbrenner here, but a healthy Joba and Wang might have made this a very interesting race. This is like you guys losing Beckett and Lester during the course of the year. Hard to go anywhere. I have little doubt that the Yankees will shore up their pitching this off-season, but considering we have a brutal schedule, mostly on the road, and are 5 games back with 6 weeks to play, it's not looking good.
  4. Shut up dreilly.
  5. I don't know what you guys are worried about. You're a shoo-in for the post season now that we've collapsed.
  6. Funny how a lack of a "legitimate budget" didn't hamper his predecessor in getting Pettitte, Jeter, Posada, Bernie, and Mo. Come on. It is clear now Jacko that no matter what Cashman does, you're in his corner. I'm surprised at your lack of objectivity. I gave him all the credit for the Nady deal, but I'm still killing him on Santana. I want him to do well, but I have no emotional stake in him. I still wonder why you do. Joba and Robertson are in the majors. Change of heart? With Boras as his agent? Now that's funny.
  7. Cashman is still an idiot. Not signing your first round pick is ridiculous. Why draft him in the first place? Jacko, this guy has to go. Another thing...this isn't the NBA. Most draft picks never amount to much. You're putting way too much value on this. Remember when everyone was pissed off the Yankees took Henry and the Red Sox took Craig Hansen? Come on now. I'm just showing you that the man running the club is a terrible GM. He doesn't draft well or sign players well. He can't balance winning today with building for tomorrow. To tell you the truth, if he was good at one or the other, I'd be ok. He just sucks at today AND tomorrow. You still haven't given me a reason why Stick shouldn't be running the team, or pretty much any GM with a clue instead of Cashman.
  8. Never said it was a total loss. However, we lose leverage with that pick, as it is not protected if we don't sign the player [in other words if it happens again, we don't get a supplemental pick in 2010]. Of course it's a universal claim, he's a universal idiot. Just little mistakes like this that seem to happen all the time on Cashman's watch. I fail to see how this intern is now seen upon as a genius. You know what's funny? Hank was right. If he had followed his gut and traded for Santana, it would be the Red Sox worrying about the wild card and not us. Instead, he listened to the village idiot.
  9. He seems to be generating more torque from his lower body, but still not enough. An improvement nonetheless.
  10. Crespo..... If you don't sign your first pick, it's a bad draft. As of now. It's a wasted pick. The Yankees didn't draft a player not to sign him [i think]. Regardless of how it turns out, as of today, August 17th, 2008, it's a bad draft.

Phelps photo-finish was watched by 66 million viewers in the U.S. Just plain amazing.
  12. Some men just want to watch the world burn.
  13. End result. We didn't sign the first pick. Bad draft when you don't sign your first pick. I am starting to believe that the Yankees will never win anything again under Cashman.
  14. Is he better? I don't know. However, I'd rather see Gardner. He takes pitches, which means if the pitcher is wild, he'll walk, and he can steal a base. Melky gives you nothing.
  15. Eh. I don't care either way.
  16. You're smarter when you're drunk. Thought you'd finally made it to he land of sanity. Seriously Jacko, at this point, you're just plain ignorant. Your defense of a GM that espouses trading youth for veterans, when coupled with an inability to sign the very young players he touts, when added to the knowledge of poor talent evaluation, is indefensible. For some guy who does show a level of intelligence on most baseball matters [i thank you again for the primer on the young players in the system, many of which I'd never even heard of], you do not show the same objectivity towards your own. My rip on Cashman is that he is not that good. His track record is poor, given the advantage he was given and has, he is poor in talent evaluation, he is poor at signing free agent pitchers, and his supposed strength, player development, is now grossly inadequete. I fail to see anything this guy deserves accolades for with the exception of deadline deals. The sad thing is, put me against this guy in any baseball management setting, and I'll have him for lunch. I'm also not a baseball guy, at least not for a living. I don't have the resources he has, and I out-think him. That's like me diagnosing patients better than you. It's more a knock on you being a s***** doctor than me being some sort of medicinal savant. Samt thing here. [i am not making a correlation at your abilities as a medical professional, I believe you are very good at your job]. There is no reason to retain a guy of this ability. Let me go on record saying I like what he's trying to do. For both financial gains and long-term goals, building from within is the best way to do things. However, his methods are terrible. What he's saying is like when someone says "I want to work hard at my job to get promoted". Ok..but if you don't do it, you wouldn't get promoted. He talks a good game. In fact, that's about the only thing good about his game. Talking. I fail to see a reason to support him. He doesn't sign players well. He doesn't trade well if it isn't a salary dump [although he isn't bad either]. He's poor at talent evaluation [we get a player who misses two seasons for Sheffield, we don't trade Kennedy, who at this point is a non-prospect]. He doesn't sign free agent pitchers well. He doesn't sign the players he drafts. What is it exactly you like about him that any intern in baseball can't do? This is New York doc. Doing a poor job shouldn't put you on notice. It should make you look for another job. He makes a million dollars a year, and for what? f***, I'll do the job for free and do it better. Sadly, you'd probably do a better job as well. Neither of us are baseball professionals. He needs to be terminated immediately and someone who understands the game needs to be put in charge. Stick to medicine Doc.

    Who are the Yankees?
  18. In a way, it's almost fun. Watching this team implode is fun in a way. If we aren't going to make it, might as well totally s*** the bed. Maybe that moron Cashman is shown the door now.
  19. No, no. Cashman is awesome. Rebuilding the team from within. We should keep him because his direction is the right one. He knows what he's doing. Of course, we should blame Oppenheimer. After all, it's the scouting director who signs the players. Finally, Doc. Nice to see you get your head out of you ass. Only took you almost 12,000 posts. FIRE CASHMAN.
  20. Example....Ellsbury, Lowrie, Buchholz, and Masterson have been non-factors for the most part. The Yankees haven't kept up to the Red Sox for the main reason of... Cashman being an idiot. All else is secondary.
  21. Another example of the idiot being clueless. Let's draft a player in the first round, and then not sign him. Please God, kill me now if Cashman is to come back. http://bats.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/08/14/first-round-pick-gerrit-cole-opts-for-college-over-yankees/
  22. Here is the thing. You don't know about free agents, especially with the village idiot running the team. You guys forgot about Moose. 1. Resign Moose. One year deal. He's stated he wants to come back, and his change of pace stuff helps the top of the order Joba. No risk here. 2. Offer Pudge arbitration. Hope he walks. Tell him he's the backup even if he wins. I would seriously look to move Posada if at all possible. I don't think it's possible. 3. Buy out Giambi. You can't risk arbitration with him. Offer him a one year deal if he wishes to stay, and you don't land Teixeira. If Tex lands with the Yanks, the Yankees should trade Matsui, who has some value and DH Giambi. Tex is really not a priority for the Yankees. They should get into the bidding simply to drive his price up for the Mets/Sox. I'd much rather see CC or Sheets than Tex, as good as he is. I'd rather have Giambi for 10 mil for one year than Tex for 20 million for the next 5-10. 4. Open the vault for CC. It's obvious he can pitch, and the Yankees need a dominant lefty. He should be called at 12:01 when free agents are available. 5. Bring back Abreu. There are a core of Yankees who will take one year deals to remain. Abreu, Mussina, and Giambi. They should all be back, and if any of them falter, that's their final year here. 6. Marte/Nady..if options are available, they should both be picked up. Both players are on next year's roster. 7. Package Kennedy and Cabrera for a bona fide player, if even remotely possible. Some team will take a chance on Kennedy. Same with Melky. They may still have some value. I would explore the Mariners with Bedard. He seems to have worn out his welcome, and if you can get him, I'd run with it. I know it would take more than Melky and Cabrera, but it would be a start. I wouldn't trade an star prospect...ok, maybe I would, but I don't think you'd have to. 8. Bring back Pettitte, but not at 16 million. Offer him around 10 if he wants to stay. If not, enjoy Texas. 9. Shift Nady to CF. The Yankees defense will be weakened, but under no circumstances should Melky start the season in CF. He is back to being a replacement 4th OF, and will most likely be traded with Kennedy, according to my plan. 10. Posada, if he remains, should be a 1B/C. Molina should catch the majority of the time. The Yankees lineup [assuming they do not get Tex, should look as follows. LF Damon SS Jeter RF Abreu 3B Rodriguez DH Giambi/Matsui CF Nady 1B Posada 2B Cano C Molina Rotation CC [hopefully] Joba Wang Moose Pettitte [if he returns] Hughes is given a shot to win the long relief role is ST. With Moose and Pettitte, he's bound to throw a lot of innings anyways. As for the pen, I don't know who will be available, but it doesn't really matter outside of Mo. They are all average at best.
  23. I'd be walking around New Orleans wondering why I was getting larger.
  24. Exactly. Am I the only one who sees something wrong with using ONLY statistical analysis when looking at players?
  25. This is the guy you're high on? One who wants to give up on the season? It's one thing for me to give up. It's another when you're own GM does.
