I do hope you're right and I'm wrong. However, I am pretty sure that most of these players are not going to amount to much.
My thing with this idiot is that he doesn't know when to hold 'em or fold 'em. He gambled on young pitching instead of the sure thing. His talent evaluation sucks. Only two teams didn't sign the first pick this year. Yankees and Nationals.
Look...if you advocate signing CC and/or Sheets and/or Sabathia....well, you could have given up marginal players and gotten Santana and then the games this September would have meanth something. Now it's even tougher to get those players [why would they want to come here unless the money is ridiculously better?].
Now I hear that he wants to let Abreu go. He wants to get younger and more athletic. Abreu is a decent athlete, and one of the best OBP players the Yankees have. If he decides to go with Melky in the OF and let Abreu, who has SAID he WANTS to come back, then I'm seriously dropping my season tickets next year. All nine of them.
The only chance we have is if Hank takes away 90% of Cashman's power and/or replaces him.
I will say that in theory I like Cashman's plan. He's too rigid with it, he falls in love with young players because he probably is a pedophile, and he runs the Yankees as if they are a small-market team. If you can trade a "jewel" to get an All-Star, you do it 99% of the time. Would you trade Hughes, Kennedy, Austin Jackson, Sanchez and Coke for Pujols? I would. Why? Pujols is the sure thing. Those others are a hope and a prayer.
Look, if Hughes and Kennedy had led the Yankees to the pennant this year, I'd be first in line in singing his praises. Since they have been abysmal, and since I advocated trading for Santana, and I was ridiculously close to what the Twins asked for the Yankees at the 11th hour, and I don't get paid to do it, I'm better at this then he is. I'm just a stupid fan who watches the game for free. He's supposed to be the professional getting a million bucks a year. Not only that, but if he came out and said "Hey, I blew it on Santana, I over-valued our young pitchers" then I could write that off as a bad call. He still thinks not making the deal was the right thing to do. Even you, as stubborn as you can be, are not that thick-headed.
Jacko, if I diagnose patients better than you, it doesn't mean that I'm great. It means you suck, since you're the doctor.
If I analyze moves BEFORE they happen better than he does....he sucks. No ifs, ands or buts.
Good plan overall. Unqualified person to pull it off. Keep the plan if you like. Replace the incompetent boob.
