  1. Chavez and Nunez make the team. Romulo Sanchez goes to Japan. Ronnie Belliard gets cut. Pena goes to the minors. Montero and Romine also move to the minors. Not too keen on the Pena move, as I think Nunez could benefit from a little more seasoning, but it looks like we're going with a pretty offensively oriented bench sans Molina
  2. So....I wonder where Kemba is gonna go in the draft. This kid reminds me a lot of Iverson, without the off the court problems. I could see him as a top 5 pick
  3. Shaka Smart is about to get PAID! This guy is gonna land a big time job for big time cash
  4. This is absolutely amazing. Either Butler or VCU will be in the championship game
  5. Yes he would. Which is exactly why we shouldn't have given him away
  6. typical Ohio. Choke when the chips are down.
  7. 2009 John Smoltz was coming off shoulder surgery and a transition to a new league. Garcia was serviceable in the AL last season, so he at least has that going for him. Listen man, I dont expect duct-tape Freddy to be lights out, and he very well may not make it through the season, but he's a much better bet than the 09 Smoltz. I figure Freddy's probably good for a circa 5ERA season, hopefully lower. But if he can just give us 5 innings per night out of the 5th starter spot, then he'll do his job
  8. My guess is they carry Albers and Reyes since they're out of options and Albers has quality big league stuff. He reminds me a bit of the sox signing of Matt Mantei a few yrs ago. Eye popping velocity, can't hit the broad side of a barn. I guess Young thinks he could harness it, and I wouldnt be surprised if Theo gives him a month to see if he can pull through. I do think that by midseason, Oki isnt in the Red Sox org and Aceves is the long man
  9. So Garcia to the rotation and Colon to the pen. Cannot say I blame Girardi, but Colon never really was in a fight for the rotation if thats how it played out. I do agree that a guy who threw 150IP last yr is a lot more reliable than a guy who quit on his club in 2009 and didnt pitch at all last yr, but Colon has apparently shown good stuff this spring. I do think Colon gives us some options should the duct tape rip off in Freddy's arm. I was also intrigued by Mark Prior this spring. He's been topping out at 94 and still flashes the great curve and change that made him a Cy Young candidate before Dusty Baker ripped his arm off. If he can show durability in Scranton, he'd be a very interesting mid season callup
  10. Dont rule out Romine yet, though. He might get the nod. I think Montero is definitely out since his defensive consistency needs work. He's definitely improved defensively, but he needs refining before he can be in the bigs full time. Romine, OTOH, has all the defensive tools you could want in a backup, plus a good amount of offensive projection.
  11. I can agree with that.
  12. I think Montero ends up in AAA. I think he's regressed a little bit and started pressing. He needs a hot start in AAA to end up back in the bigs
  13. Millwood officially signed. MiLB deal with a $1 million MLB contract escalator. If he can get his velocity up, then he's an intriguing option. But throwing 85mph coming off your worst yr in your late 30s doesnt really scream improved velocity.
  14. It is definitely something to keep an eye on. He did have a big innings jump, but he's also working on his change and a newly added slider this spring. That shouldnt drop velo, but who knows. If he's operating under 90mph this yr, then we're in trouble. But like I said, I'd even give him a month of the season before judging. If he's sitting 88 in May, then we need to find another pitcher, and fast
  15. He started out with low velocity 2 yrs ago as well, which eventually improved. And his first start last yr, he was sitting around 88-89. If he's sitting high 80s come May or so, then I'll worry
  16. Everybody is getting older. It's a fact of life
  17. Yanks are close to signing Millwood to a MiLB deal. He'll have escalators in his contract if he makes the team. Not sure why the yanks are going after him if he's truly topping out at 85mph, maybe they think he'll improve on that with some formal work in the minors
  18. DiceK's numbers aren't great, but his last couple outings have been good. How has he looked in terms of stuff? I've only seen a couple ST games this yr
  19. Yankees ranked #5 in latest BA poll of organizational talent. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/rankings/organization-talent-rankings/2011/2611472.html
  20. Once again, I think the Spanish to English translation of what you think is a strawman must be off. Secondly, I have already said that I think both pitchers will respond this season as they both have something to prove. Also, I have called both pitchers wild cards since they do both have a possibility of continuing their spiral. It wasn't me who had a menstrual cramp when I called Beckett a wild card. I've been calling them both wild cards all offseason. It's only because I questioned the mighty red sox rotation that you and our forum mascot needed to take some midol. Seriously, you both should go on the pill. It would help shorten the duration of bleeding and make the cramping less intense
  21. His numbers point to his ridiculous ERA as being "lucky". I still think he settles in as a 3.50ERAish pitcher, which is still top notch
  22. I called Burnett a (you guessed it) WILD CARD as well. It wasnt injury with Burnett, from what we know. He was cruising along until something happened. Be it the issue with the pitching coach or his wife, or whatever, something happened with him. If it persists, then he'll suck. If those problems are behind him, then I think he gets back to where he was (4ERA, 200IP). I have gone on record as saying I am optimistic about Burnett AND Beckett. But both are wild cards. I have never said anything but this, so you are once again wrong. As usual
  23. Once again, pot calling the kettle black. Beckett has missed SIGNIFICANT time over the past 3 seasons (2 of 3 to be exact) and his location has suffered because of it. At times his FB velocity has stuttered, but he was still throwing mid 90s by yrs end last yr. He's a guy who needs everything right to pitch at his best. And when he throws at his best, he's an ace. The problem is, he's only at his best in about 20% of his seasons. Hence why I called him a wild card. I didnt say he'd suck. I didnt say he's the worst pitcher in baseball. I called him a wild card. Meaning, he could be anything from an injured shell of his former self to the ace of the staff. How is that being biased?
  24. I am definitely not saying the start of this season. But if ManBan is lighting up AA and AAA while our rotation is suffering, then he'll debut this season. You can be sure of that
  25. Or maybe it is because Beckett is coming off an injury plagued season where even when he was on this hill, he looked absolutely terrible. Maybe that had something to do with it. Or maybe it is because the guy hasnt been able to stay healthy since 2007. Maybe that's why he's a wild card, maybe. Seriously, you are the most biased person on the site, calling out other people's bias. Hypocrite
