  1. Notice what you put in front of Phil's name. Part of the treatment is to encourage people to do what is safe, and if that means I have to call them an idiot to get that point across, I will. My job isnt to be a robot and condone everyone's behavior, because someone who does that isnt a good doctor. Sometimes you have to say the obvious and you need to be stern. Calling a drunk driver an idiot is stern. You may think differently when you have kids or get married, but the idea that this idiot was on the road and could have killed someone you know, your kids, your wife, whatever, is unsettling.
  2. I agree completely.
  3. A DUI gets you fired, meaning you are still a doctor, but you have to practice elsewhere. Practicing medicine under the influence gets your license revoked. Meaning you cannot work anywhere
  4. Exactly. y228 rings the bell of wisdom again
  5. you just put solid and below average next to each other. Seriously Dojji, I dont know why I bother.
  6. If I got a DUI, I would lose my job
  7. I see drunk idiots all the time who come in after wrecking their cars, and yes I call them idiots while doing my best to fix them up. And while you try and say that we shouldnt "condone" his behaviour, you are building in an excuse for him. He has a problem, yes. He shouldnt be driving, yes. BUT HE DID DRIVE. My biggest problem with drunk drivers is that they put other people at risk. If you wanna go out and snort some coke and smoke some crack, then it's your life. I dont recommend it, but you are doing it to yourself. But getting behind the wheel that cocked is not only dangerous to yourself, but dangerous to others. And it isnt like he doesnt have the funds to get driven around.
  8. De Leon has better tools than Angelini. Angelini was all about position and projection, but he couldnt field the position and never progressed. Then he got hurt. De Leon has a cannon arm and light tower power. He gets my Jo Boo award, though. The guy cannot hit anything with a wrinkle in it. Some guys get driven out of the league because of the breaking ball (see Tim Battle) and others eventually overcome it (Melky Mesa). I hope De Leon develops more on the Mesa side of things. And he will get every opportunity. A kid with that kind of power at 20 yrs old is rare.
  9. "See:Lawrence Taylor?" You serious Dipre? Taylor didnt f*** a teenager IN FRONT OF THE COPS. The police report and the police camera will confirm this story. And he thought he was riding a donkey in Venezuela? I dont know about you, but I have a feeling that if Mark Teixeira was in the same predicament, you'd be railing on him up and down. I have a feeling that there may be some cultural or ethnic bias in terms of your defending this guy.
  10. Shame on me? Really? You are gonna side with the guy who got bombed and got behind the wheel? You seriously are a moron. This has nothing to do with profession, as a human being I frown on anyone who gets behind the wheel impaired. Now, if someone wants to risk their life, then so be it. But drinking and driving puts innocent people in danger. Now, there is obviously the low level mandated by law at 0.08 (for the most part), but he was CLEARLY acting like someone who should never have driven and was probably well over that number. In terms of dealing with addictions, well, there are addicts who hide in their homes and drink, others who are public drunks, but there is NO excuse for driving while bombed. Absolutely none. Take your blame the system card and shove it up your ass. I hope he gets nailed to the wall and made an exampe of. As an aside, do you know that in Phoenix, if you get caught with a DUI, it is a mandatory 10 day "jail" term in one of their tent prisons? It's a hefty fine and everyone gets detained, regardless of how much money you make or influence you have. Thats something we should do here at least
  11. No, it will come down to him making huge progress in the contact department. Why do you always pick the guys who are either too old for their league or who have a fatal flaw? I have already said that he is young and obviously can develop, but the initial question posed was whether he can be a "factor" in the bigs in 2011. He's a long way off from even having an ETA since his contact and power skills are in the minus category and he's an outfielder. If he couldnt hit to a solid average as a 21 yr old in AA, what makes you think his bat will carry him to the bigs as a 22 yr old? Now all prospects arent linear, some fizzle out, some get a cup of coffee and others reach their potential. Guys like Lin I would set aside and say "we'll see." He hasnt shown nearly enough in the minors to warrant a big league spot, but he's young enough to where he might develop it. Regardless, the idea of him in the bigs in 2011 is very far fetched.
  12. I agree. I am just saying that comparing him to Beckett in terms of worth is irrelevant at this point, especially since he isnt even arb eligible yet
  13. Marshall was electrifying when he came back, and they let him throw his slider. He's going to a pitcher's league in 2011 and he's completely healthy. My guess is that he'll have a 1-2 month adjustment period then he will dominate to a point that he ends the yr in AA
  14. Buch said that a Lester extension would be a starting point, not an ending point. That being said, the kid has had 1 season of being a good pitcher and one partial season where he showed glimpses. I think the FO will wait on this one for maybe a couple months into the season to see if he regresses at all. But if I were in Theo's shoes, I would be talking to his agent about extending him now, cause he is only going to get more expensive
  15. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/spring2011/news/story?id=6131020 SO not only did he stagger, slur and smell of booze. But the guy took a swig of alcohol in front of the deputy. That guy is an idiot
  16. Juan Pierre comp? You mean the guy who has a career AVG of .298 and has stolen 60+ bases three times? Yeah, good comp Dojji....j/k
  17. I might be okay with missing the playoffs if the Yankees are able to retain CC and can bring in Pujols. Might be a sacrifice I'd be willing to make
  18. Pujols would be the everyday LFer in the Bronx if we got him, which I do not think is going to happen
  19. My list of potentials.... 1. Cubs 2. Mets (if Trump buys share of team) 3. Nationals 4. Cards (if they don't sign him prior to Nov 15) 5. Yankees (if they miss the playoffs)
  20. Gardner is faster and a better basestealer. The thing is, you are comparing a kid with good speed to guys with elite speed and elite basestealing instincts. Gardner stole 238 bases in 388 minor league games. Plotted out over a 140 game season, that's 86 steals per year. Now obviously, he missed some time with various ailments, but that's the rate you are talking about. Compare that to Lin, who is at 102SBs in 395 games for a 140 game rate of 36. And it isnt like he is getting better as a basestealer, he only stole 26 in 2010 and 2009. This is what you are doing. You are projecting something onto Lin that he truly isnt. He's a guy with a good glove, good speed, above average patience, abysmal power and below average contact skills. A player with that skill type will be passable at SS. An OFer with that skill set is a pinch runner and 5th OFer at best in the bigs. And there are a bunch of players who "project" to hit for power. I have read no recent reports on Lin that assume he will have any power at all. Now, he is young, which is the good news. The bad news is that he hasnt shown one iota of hitting skills outside of his eye. If that doesnt improve, he doesnt make it out of the minors. He isnt a guy I would be putting into any big league conversations right now. He needs a lot more work, and although he has 3 of the 5 tools (speed, arm, glove), the other 2 are more important for the position he plays
