    So you want to get rid of Crawford? You'll have to eat $15 mil a season to deal him right now. Is it worth it to deal Crawford and $90 million for nothing? No, you gotta keep Crawford, and you kinda have to. If he plays up to his potential, then he's still overpaid, but the sox wont want to move him. If he plays like 2011 again, he'll be worthless again. Ellsbury is making it to FA, and if somehow he continues to have 25-25 to 30-30 seasons, he's going to outearn Crawford by a lot. Crawford set the market for a 5 tool OFers in their prime. Ellsbury is going to wreck the market. He's gonna get CC money (7yrs $161 mil) on the market.

    I think the sox will offer him a fair deal, but they will get blown out of the water from another organization desperate to make a splash. I think the sox hope he leaves so they can avoid a sticky situation later on and so they can take 2 picks

    Ortiz loves to win, but this will be his final contract. He can always sign with a losing team then get dealt to a contender.

    2010 was abysmal in terms of injuries. Nobody wins when losing their leadoff hitter, their #2 and #4 hitters plus one of their top starters (Beckett). Nobody comes back from that. In 2011, the biggest injury per se was Buchholz as the offense wasnt a problem. I think from a 2011 standpoint, yes the depth needs improving. For 2010, though, their depth got them almost 90 wins

    Someone is going to overpay Ortiz. He's an icon, charismatic, and as of right now, still producing. With offense way down in both leagues, someone will overpay. I think it will be Seattle at 3yrs $30 mil.

    Nobody seems to want to move a regular player for a pitcher. I can understand that, but when your only major trade chip is a regular, then you're stuck. This is a unique offseason. Tons of teams need pitching, and very few players will be on the market. The sox now have 2 holes in their rotation and are counting on healthy seasons from Buchholz, Lester and Beckett. And we all know that 2 of those 3 are unproven in terms of long term durability. You might have to deal from your offense to fill the pitching hole. The minors are a wasteland from AA up, so the only deals you'll make from a prospect perspective will be salary dumps. And the only guy who looks like a potential dump is Zambrano, who'd be a risky get at the high price in the AL East. The options really are to go as is and fill the #4 and #5 spots with guys who are coin tosses or deal from the offense and get a legitimate stopper in the rotation

    I think Lincecum's stuff plays out in the AL East, but I'd be wary about durability. Already 4 straight 200IP seasons prior to his 28th bday on a 5'11" frame.

    when the commish gets involved, it will only be cash. He really cannot go in there and say, well, it looks like Brett Jackson is the right move here. No, he'll assign a cash value and they'll move on. The conflicting issue here is that Selig would be dealing with one of his rivals, as he is intertwined with the Brewers, so he will be extra careful not to piss the Cubbies off.
