  1. CC Sabathia is headed for elbow surgery, but his UCL is intact. He apparently has a bone spur in the elbow and is visiting James Andrews for consultation. If the initial diagnosis is correct, he should be fine by ST
  2. Mods, please move this to the general baseball forum if you can!
  3. It all started early. The A's, Marlins and DBacks worked a 3 way trade today. Marlins get infield prospect Yordy Cabrera A's get OF Chris Young DBacks get Cliff Pennington, Heath Bell and $8 mil from the Marlins
  4. We have a few threads here about the ALCS and the reactive post I made about the destruction of the Yankees. Well, the off-season is here for us, so time to put news in here. The Yankees will be picking up the option on Curtis Granderson. Due to the 2011 MVP balloting, his option is worth $15 million. The Yankees are said to be shopping the slugger, but right now, there are no good leads as the season is still on going. The Yankees are expected to make the qualifying offer to Nick Swisher, but will not be offering him a long term deal. They are content to take the pick knowing that Swish will get a long term deal elsewhere. Rafael Soriano is going to opt out of the final yr of his contract. The Yankees will also be offering the qualifying offer, but will not be extending his contract either, as the Yanks are content taking the pick. In terms of replacements for them, there are a few players in mind on the trade and FA front to replace Swisher, although the Yankees really have no major internal prospect who could fill the RF slot. Their closest OF prospect is Zoilo Almonte, who is at least a half season away and some project him as a platoon player/4th OFer. In terms of replacing Soriano, the Yankees are likely to re-sign Mariano Rivera to take the closer role and see Mark Montgomery get every shot in ST to win a spot in the pen. He struck out 99 batters in 64IP with only 22 walks. His 0.88WHIP was the lowest in the Yankee system and his 13.8K/9IP was the highest.
  5. Our offense sucked vs the Orioles too.
  6. a700, had you watched the games? His ABs vs righties were historically bad. He never got his timing back after his hand injury and my guess is we will learn of other issues as the off season drones on. He'll be back next yr and should contribute, although he isn't one of the greatest players of all time anymore. He's an old, broken down version of a great player
  7. Long has to go. Two consecutive postseasons have seen our offense melt.
  8. Ah yes, the old arbitrary cutoff rule. How about this. Who has dominated the Red Sox in playoff appearances and world series titles since 2009? This is moronic. I've seen 5 world series titles and I am barely over 30. You've seen two, although based on your typing, you were likely an infant when they won in 2004. And yes, 20 of the rings were over 50 years old. That means we've won 7 in the last 50 years. How many has your team won in that span? And yes, 1918 isnt relevant anymore, how many Yankee fans have even mentioned it on this board since 2004? Sometimes you are a complete idiot. Most times, you're retarded
  9. And, while we cannot jettison our biggest annoyance in ARod, we can easily jettison two of our biggest annoyances in Swisher and Granderson while actually getting something of significant value for them.
  10. I don't care if you laugh at my team, hell, I am laughing at them too. I would just temper your enthusiastic critiquing seeing as your team will be in line for a lottery pick this yr while my team ended their season in the ALCS. The good thing is, you guys should be relevant again in...maybe...2015? Enjoy the next few yrs!!
  11. Calling them the $pankees is moronic. Using the money is certainly an argument you could make, but you also cannot overlook the fact that your team spent the second most money in all of baseball the last 3 yrs and havent made the playoffs once. It isnt just about the money, you have to get something for it.
  12. I am not sure why you are gloating when your team finished last with 93 losses. It is pretty amazing how ignorant you are.
  13. I have to admit, I have had less time to compile these lists and pour through all the info on these guys, but this is my best crack as a top 50. I did not include the most recent INTL signees like Torrens and Palma since they havent played an inning professionally, but I will likely see them on these lists next yr. The big offensive INTL signee from 2011, Miguel Andujar, just narrowly missed the list as his debut season wasnt good, but his tools would have had him on most team's lists. As epically as this team was hit with injuries, this system has a load of talent and should see a nice recovery next yr assuming better health than this yr (which is almost assured, no way they have this much injury in 2013). Here goes with my list, feel free to attack it any way you see fit. 1. Gary Sanchez 2. Mason Williams 3. Slade Heathcott 4. Tyler Austin 5. Manny Banuelos 6. David Adams 7. Jose A Ramirez 8. Ramon Flores 9. Angelo Gumbs 10. Corban Joseph 11. Jose Campos 12. Mark Montgomery 13. Ty Hensley 14. Jordan Cote 15. Greg Bird 16. Rafael DePaula 17. Ravel Santana 18. Gabe Encinas 19. Bryan Mitchell 20. Dellin Betances 21. Austin Romine 22. Dante Bichette Jr. 23. Rookie Davis 24. Matt Tracy 25. Jake Cave 26. Adam Warren 27. Branden Pinder 28. JR Murphy 29. Cito Culver 30. Anderson Feliz 31. Nik Turley 32. Brett Marshall 33. Daniel Camarena 34. Zoilo Almonte 35. Evan Rutckyj 36. Peter O'Brien 37. Chaz Hebert 38. Corey Black 39. Abraham Almonte 40. Nick Goody 41. Chase Whitley 42. Zach Nuding 43. Austin Aune 44. Tommy Kahnle 45. Jose Pirela 46. Giovanny Gallegos 47. Jerison Lopez 48. Robert Refsnyder 49. Christopher Tamarez 50. Brady Lail
  14. Salty is not a big trading chip
  15. That is pretty stupid and naive.
  16. It was another one of those Team President's making the move over the GM's head. For the Yankees that has worked out horribly with ARod (although we did win one title with him, so it wasnt completely worthless) and pretty well with Soriano.
  17. Dude, the sox have spent nearly $510 million over the last 3 yrs and havent made the playoffs. Stop being a moron
  18. I think the relapse issue would obviously be attached to games missed. Listen, I dont think Cashman gives two shits if Hamilton shows up shitfaced but put up a .900+OPS and 40+HR. I dont. I dont care if he's banging hookers in the runway to the dugout and contracts every STD known to man. I care about his production. And if his production suffers and he misses playing time, his contract should become non-guaranteed. That being said, this ARod business is stoking the flames of the hot stove and making me intrigued. Third baseman are hard to come by in this yrs FA class, but we might actually have a replacement in the minors. Corban Joseph played for the SWB this yr. He was 23 for the entire yr and has always been a guy who flew under the radar. Well this yr, he continued to do so on a team that played zero home games. That's right, every one of their games was played on the road due to construction at the SWB field. And his overall numbers were pretty good for a 23 yr old in his first taste of AAA. .266/.366/.474 with 13HR in 327AB. Now he is a left handed hitter (bonus) who is showing improved power and has always had a great eye without huge K numbers (70 in 107 games). But the eye popping number is in his splits. The kid had a slash line of .299/.401/.560 vs righties this yr. That's really good for a 23 yr old in their first season at AAA playing all road games. Now the kid cannot hit lefties to save his life (.174/.260/.233), but we do have Eduardo Nunez who has hit .311 vs lefties in his big league career and has raped them in his minor league career. Now, replacing ARod is something that ARod cannot even do, so these guys won't have to try and be a .300 40HR 120RBI guy since the guy they are replacing cannot stay on the field and wont hit .270 next yr. But a platoon of those two guys might be able to show enough offensively to stay relevant while also developing 2 young players for bigger roles down the line
  19. He is done and he will be gone. But cmon now, the sox had a mutiny vs their manager and had the worst season they've had in 46 years. The Yankees are in the ALCS. I think you can probably see the difference here.
  20. If the Yankees follow the numbers, they wont win this series. I will feel better on the inside if they just end it here. But I know how they work. They will take the next 2 and then drop a huge deuce in the stadium to finish the yr
  21. The sox need to clear the detritus and bring in guys who have a future with the club. Lin never had a future in Boston. He's a national league kind of player anyway, a guy who can play the OF in a pinch, can run and bunt.
  22. Swisher is a compiler, but you cannot say he was a product of YS. He had a higher OPS away from the stadium this yr than at home.
  23. The Yankee beat writers have picked this up and are confirming that talks have taken place. There might be way more to this story than initially stated. My guess is the Yankee brass got a little upset at the fact that he was picking up chicks during a f***ing playoff game
  24. The Marlins typically just give out the bad contracts, but they are looking to branch out, I guess
