  1. ms, Castillo's contract absolutely counts towards luxury tax
  2. Just saw Castillo in CF for Pawtucket today. He's an awful baseball player with absolutely no instincts. Fast runner on 1st, single up the middle, slowly hit. He charges and fires to third on the fly, without even a glimmer of hope that he'd throw him out. The batter advances to 2nd and scores two batters later. And boy is he jumpy in the box. I bet his raw skills are off the charts, but he has a 10 cent head both at the dish and in the field. You cannot cure stupid
  3. I watched Henry Owens today at Pawtucket and he was abysmal. Not the answer. Topped out at 88 and couldn't find the zone at all.
  4. UN?, he was topping out at 93 on a hot night in Texas. Those are the nights guys top out above their average velo, yet he was topping out at it. His breaking ball was an absolute mess and everything was belt high or higher. He looked like a guy with a sore back, just couldn't finish anything
  5. Wouldn't be surprised if we hear about a core issue tomorrow with Price. Back strain, lat or oblique tightness etc. it's rare to see a guy that good be that bad. Velo was down, pitches were up, breaking balls had no finish. Almost as if he couldn't finish his pitches
  6. You need one more starter
  7. Chapman just threw 9 pitches, the slowest of which was 101mph. Insane. 3 of them were 103
  8. 5 runs to tie. And it will probably be a lot more. Warm up Brentz. I think he should move to pitcher, lol
  9. I'd be better than Price was today, and I haven't pitched in a decade, lol
  10. It seems the talking heads love Matt Barnes. His numbers are terrible. 1.40WHIP with 5BB/9IP? The guy has not been very good.
  11. Texas hit .667 against Price tonight
  12. The problem with your rotation is that when Price, Porcello, or Wright suck ass, you're now guaranteed a 60% SP fail rate, otherwise known as a 60% hope and pray the offense bails us out rate. You cannot survive like that
  13. Beltre just misses and the next hitter goes track.
  14. Velo down and pitches up. Price is teetering on the brink here
  15. These are the games that velocity pitchers hit their velocity. Hot, humid, the heater comes alive. He's topping out at 93 right now. Good velo, no question, but for a guy who averaged 94.2mph last yr, topping out at 93 on a hot and humid day makes you wonder if he's lost something
  16. Tex's injury has definitely opened things up for Refsnyder. He's hitting .291 with a .344OBP and an OPS near .800. The kid can absolutely hit. He just needs a position. I really hope he works at his fielding for 3b and can supplant Chase next yr
  17. ms, you develop him where his value and capability are the highest. If he develops even into a league average defensive 2b, then he'll be worth a massive amount with what his bat offers. You move him to the OF right now and his stock nosedives based on positional value alone. What you can do is develop him in the toughest position (middle of the diamond) and move him as he gets closer to where your needs are.
  18. They could. They need another starter and another reliever to be a true contender, though. Porcello is not a 3rd starter on a world series team
  19. Ortiz says he wasn't notified what he tested positive for. He also said that he was first told about his failed test in 2009. Whereas all players who failed a test were made aware in 2004 and were told what they took. And what's the chance he was one of the 8? Probably about 7.69%
  20. Benni is a top prospect. You don't bring them up u til they are ready or if you are desperate. You're not desperate and he isn't ready. Brentz has been around a long time. Bring him up, see if he catches lightning in a bottle and if he doesn't, DFA him
  21. Swihart's performance behind the dish hurts way more than his injury. They're saying 8 weeks now, which means nothing to Atlanta. If a team thinks Swihart can catch, then his worth skyrockets. As an OFer, his worth is pretty minimal
  22. The team could make the playoffs as a WC team and after 162, they could be on their asses after one.
  23. UN?, the wild card changes things. You need to win your division. To do that, you need to get more pitching. Also, while Wright has been the balls and Price has turned the ship around, I doubt Porcello inspires much faith. Since April, he's pitched to a 4.54ERA 1.23WHIP and 6.6K/9IP. April, he was 2.76ERA 0.92WHIP and 9.9K/9IP. The WHIP is still good, but he isn't striking people out like he was, which is translating to a much higher BAA and hence more runs
