  1. Two of your top 3 prospects were drafted 12th or higher. You're not seeing that talent for the next 3 years
  2. Cobb had TJS then a myriad of injuries coming back from it. Bunch has glass body syndrome, no precipitating surgeries. Cobb is better than Buch at this stage of their respective careers, Cobb just needs to be healthy
  3. Slav, it is puzzling that the sox went for the Bugatti when they already had Bentley's and Maserati's in the rotation, yet they replaced Ortiz' stretch hummer with a Hyundai Elantra
  4. Why are people worried about 2021 right now? You are in your window. Enjoy it! You could be a fan of a team outside their window like me!
  5. if the Sale deal delivers a title to Boston, then it doesn't matter if Moncada becomes a perennial MVP candidate. There is a good chance The CWS package delivers more WAR than Sale will in a six uniform. But if a pennant gets raised on the back of Chris Sale, then nobody will care
  6. Chap just costs money. And with what's coming off the books, it's a paltry sum. My concern is who is going to be handing the ball off to the pen. We have an ace, a wily vet and a Jekyll and Hyde stuff guy. Beyond that, we're relying on kids. That's always concerning
  7. Spud, it's not that you can't draft and develop, it's the top tier talent that you won't have access to due to your perceived success. Look at your #1 and #3 prospect currently. Benintendi and Groome were drafted at a level where you won't have access to them for a few years. Top 15 guys have high hit rates, after that it drops off immensely.
  8. I'd like to go on record and request competing for tittles. I'm a big fan
  9. The rest of our pen looks pretty good too. Clippard and Warren fill out the bridge. You'll probably see a lefty in there be it the Red Sox transplant or someone like Mantiply that we plucked off waivers. The past couple spots all be filled by guys who throw absolute smoke a la Johnny Barbara, Ben Heller etc. The other candidates for the rotation are guy who did well there last yr. Luis Cessa likely has a spot. If Chad Green is healthy, he should have one too
  10. I don't think so. Chapman and Betances should lock down close games late. This should outperform our pythag as we won't have the usual 15-20% loss rate when leading after 6. Our offense should be strong. Sanchez for a full year. Bird replacing Tex. Holliday is a better hitter than McCann. We won't lead the league, but we should easily be top 5 in the AL. Tanaka is an ace. CC needs to hope Father Time grants him one final wish. I hope Pineda puts it together like he did at the end last yr. we have a ton of young arms who need their chance. We have a shot to be a potential WC team. More likely, as is, we'll be competitive into Sept and probably fall short. Chapman at least makes up for some of our other deficiencies
  11. It's a big commitment for sure. But he and Dellin will form a shutdown pen for a few years and potentially take us from being a .500 team to something more. We aren't in the sox league, but this move could be enough to keep us relevant into the late summer.
  12. This is a solid get. He's young and throws smoke. He and Betances will be a devastating combo at the back end.
  13. We got a haul for sure. On par with what the sox gave up for Kimbrel and Sale
  14. The haul was steep. But you also cannot equate the performances of the prospects to what it would have been in your system. Moncada is probably headed for a full AAA season. Kopech will be developed as a starter. In the RS system, Moncada would be rushed if there was a need and Kopech would probably have cut his teeth as a reliever if they needed it. The CWS will let them both develop on their own timetable so if they become stars, it's not at all a major likelihood that that outcome would have been the same had they stayed
  15. I think they wanted a guy capable of playing 1b who wouldn't embarrass himself with the stick and fit into the budget.
  16. Your offense won't be as good. Losing Ortiz' ridiculous production hurts. But you just replaced Clay Suchholz in your rotation with a top 5 guy in all of baseball. That should offset it. And everyone is forgetting about Carson Smith. He'll be back mid season. He may. It be his vintage self til 2018, but as a reliever might get back to his stuff by playoff time. That's one hard throwing pen
  17. But for the next three years, who gives a s***. You're set up for dominance in a weak AL
  18. DD is the guy you hand a team with a stocked farm system over to and watch him turn it into a contender. He is not a GM for a rebuild project. Detroit was turned into a winner under his watch by taking a really strong farm system (due to years of suck) and turning it into a juggernaut that just couldn't close the deal. The only downside of a guy like DD is a guarantee that your window is finite and a rebuild is closer to the horizon. He will turn your team into a juggernaut, but not a dynasty
  19. Pom just had a career year and finished injured.
  20. Plus it's at a time where the Yankees are down
  21. Then you don't know why they are billionaires. These guys are businessmen and they know that throwing away money isn't wise. As for the prospect haul, who cares. By 2020, Bogaerts will be on a $25+ mil per year deal. Betts is probably getting at least that much in his final year of arb. Bradley is looking like a $20 mil a year player at least by 2020. Benintendi will be in arb. Pedroia will be on the books at $14 mil. Price will still be getting $31 mil. To keep this team together, you'll have to allocate $130 mil of the $210 mil projected lux tax to 6 players with 2 of them near the end of their careers. $90 mil for 19 players, especially when two will probably be either replacement level or lower isn't feasible in this market
  22. Not really true. The better you get, the worse picks you get and the lower the INTL amount you get and eventually you don't get access to the top talent
  23. It was so damn obvious that DD was about to empty the coffers. I said so in the forum post mortem after Cleveland handed you guys your lunch. Everyone has a window. Teams with money can extend that window, but eventually the spending catches up with teams and youth needs to shine through. You have 4 starters that are 26 or younger who are your best players. They are all cheap. NOW is the time to strike. If you wait longer, they become expensive and difficult to keep. I expected DD to deal away non MLB guys and for the most part, he did. Shaw was awful at the end of the yr and he was probably ticketed for a reserve role. To be honest with you, I wouldn't be surprised if the sox snagged Ramos and really finished this thing
  24. Adding to the fallout. Guys dealt by DD- top 100 BA style #1 Moncada #15 Espinosa #39 Margot #93 Kopech That's mid season 2016 BA rankings. 4 top 100 guys dealt, 2 top 20. Wow
  25. I don't want EE. We aren't ready for a long term contract to an aging player yet
