  1. They can all be SS's. We sign a ton of INTL SS's who clearly won't stick there long term. Some are 3b's, others are 2b's, others OFers. Calling themselves SS's gives a feeling of having more value. I remember when we signed Dermis Garcia as our top guy in 2014. He was a "SS" but was already too big for the position at 16
  2. You honestly don't know much about prospects, do you? Clint Frazier hit well in every level he has started at since he was drafted. He'd struggle on promotion then do well the following year. He's showing the same pattern of adjusting to a new level. He's also a fully rounded prospect. He's a legit 5 tool player. Guys like that don't grow on trees. He projects to hit for average. He projects to hit for power. He projects to steal 20 bases. He has a good eye and can walk. He can play plus defense and can handle CF. He has a cannon in the OF. He hasn't hit to a .900 OPS yet, but that's mostly due to his age. His age is the average age of High A. For a top prospect, he's a year ahead of his time. I'm not sure what you aren't seeing, especially when you figure we got him during a rebuild by selling high on a reliever who will be a FA by the time we expected to contend again. Frazier has the looks of a #2 hitter IMO. I could see him be a mid .800s OPS big leaguer with good D and good SB numbers with WAR's in the 3-4 range. That's a safe projection. If he skyrockets like Judge, he has the secondary tools to have a Trout-lite like WAR in the 6 range (which is less realistic granted). And yes Sheffield is undersized, but he also just turned 21 and is doing damn well in AA while working on location. Yes, he is undersized, but there are plenty of undersized lefties who made amazing careers for themselves
  3. That wasn't a great post, it was a terrible one. Frazier is a top 20 prospect in all of baseball. He hasn't "blown the minors away" because he has been years younger than his level at every level. He's 22 years old and just put up an .800+ OPS in AAA while on pace for a 20-20 season and playing plus corner OF defense. He has bat speed to spare and as he fills in, he could be a 30 HR hitter and eventually develop solid average skills as well. He has a similar SLG in AAA this year to what Judge had in the minors last year, and Frazier is 18 months younger than Judge was last yr. The kid has immense talent and profiles as a potential All Star OFer. Justus Sheffield isn't just a "good prospect", he's also a top 100 prospect who is left handed and has a 95 mph fastball with a good change and a plus breaking ball. The knock on his has been command and with his BB/9 dropping down to 3.1 this year, expect him to jump up the rankings too. He's a legit top of the rotation ceiling pitcher. We didn't get shortchanged with Miller. We dealt Miller because we thought we were rebuilding. I guarantee we don't make that deal if Cash saw we could be playoff contenders in 2016, but right now we are. And the only reason we are fading is because we've lost an immense amount of talent to injury. Chapman for a month Bird for half season Torres for the year Hicks for a month CC for a month Austin for a month Holliday for god knows how long Castro for a few weeks Fowler for the year Sanchez for a month That's insane in only half a season. We are setup nicely to build a new core and to trade for top talent. I don't think cash would undo that trade because we got a heck of a return, but at the time, the trade was made in the interest of getting younger
  4. Betances goes into a funk every year. It's annoying, but it happens
  5. And Clint Frazier hits a double and a homer in his debut!
  6. We'll see. Frazier likely comes up as a result
  7. Dustin Fowler, in his MLB debut, sustains an open patellar disruption. Ouch. That will likely sap some of his plus speed long term
  8. If the Yankees stay close by Aug 1, then I'll eat my words happily. You can only turn a roster over to kids so much before you start to lose
  9. Miguel Andujar called up. I like this kid, although I am not sure what he becomes in the majors. He's 22 yrs old and plays a good enough 3b. He makes a lot of hard contact and doesnt K very much, although he rarely if ever walks. He has average power now (8HR in 74 games) and is a doubles machine (24 in 74 games) who also has started to hit more line drives and hit for a high average. He's a helium guy because of the power, average combo, but his approach doesnt fit well with the Yankee mantra. He was clearly not the first choice here, but with Gleyber out, we need a bat and he can certainly swing it.
  10. June 28th, the first full day the Yankees havent been in first in awhile. It is also their deathknell day, IMO. We have had our share of injuries. We've effectively lost Bird for the whole first half, but with our performance, we havent missed him. We lost Chap for a month, we persevered. We lost Sanchez for a month and Romine did his best Gary Sanchez impression while he was out. Ellsbury went down, but he was effectively our 4th OFer when he went down, so no harm no foul. But the past 2 weeks have seen us be absolutely decimated. We lose CC for a month or more due to a hammy. We have lost each start made by Cessa in his stead We lose Gleyber Torres for the year. He was in the minors, but he was rumored to be heading to the Bronx to take over 3b. We lose Aaron Hicks for a month. He's already provided 2.7WAR and has a .900+ OPS. Ellsbury slides back in, but definite downgrade We lose Castro for at least a few weeks. He's already got 1.7WAR and a .830+OPS. We replace him with Wade, who is a good prospect, but I dont think he can be counted on We now lose Holliday for who knows how long. He has profound fatigue following a viral illness. Who knows how long that will last for. In a 2 week stretch, we lost our #2 pitcher, our hot shot prospect, and our #'s 2, 4, and 6 hitters who are all hitting the heck out of the ball. We are replacing them with either journeymen or unproven rookies. At the same time, the sox have gained 6 games on us in that span and have overtaken 1st. I have a feeling this is the end, although a half season run that was felled by injuries is a lot more than I expected. Now, it is time to see if the kids can keep us in the wild card push.
  11. We got a TON of arms with almost every one possessing power. I like the strategy at the top especially with how deep our system is. Schmidt was ranked as high as #10 prior to his injury as he experienced a velocity bump topping out at 97 before his elbow gave way. By taking Schmidt, we were able to sign Sauer, who was by most accounts a first round talent who had a high price tag. Stephan and Otto are both power arms as well. I understand the draft and I know we won't be popping much due to Sauer's price tag, but I like adding high end arms to the system. I'm interested to see what our 4th rounder can do offensively, but aside from him and Wagaman, I'm not expecting much on the position player side from this draft
  12. One thing of note here is that we are missing Kaprielian and now Albert Abreu and Clarke Schmidt due to injury. Kap and Abreu have ace stuff and if healthy, they'll make a big impact as they move forward.
  13. I've been concerned about the elbow since the splitter went away, but if he continues to keep his velocity and locate the splitter, then I won't be.
  14. It's not about the hype, it's about the splitter. If the splitter drops, he dominates. If it hangs, he gets killed. He needs his fb-splitter combo. His slider is pretty good, but he doesn't have the velocity to be a pure fb-slider guy
  15. Florial is a stud. He's crushing the ball as a 19 yr old in long season, and is probably headed for High A. He is playing circles around Rutherford at a younger age and has a higher power ceiling. Adams can be an ace. He's got ace stuff, the question was endurance and he's proven that in spades at the highest minor league level. If he was on the 40 man, he'd be in the Bronx right now. I think he is head and shoulders above Sheffield right now. Wade needs to be top ten right now. He's tearing the cover off the ball, showing improved power, good D and top flight SB potential at AAA at 22. Mateo has the ceiling and now that Torres is out and the vacuum should suck Estrada to AAA, I'd expect Mateo to get a call up from the offensive pit that is Tampa. Some guys respond when removed from the same level a la Austin Jackson from years ago. I like Andujar and I've seen some publications point towards him as our next 3b this year, but I don't see it. He needs to master the strike zone a bit more before he moves up to the bigs. Acevedo is a pure power pitcher with a plus change who has navigated all the way to AAA. Love this guy We have so many prospects in this system who are performing, it'll be sad to see some go. There aren't enough spots for all of them. We will start seeing some of them pawned off for sure
  16. And Tanaka was brilliant last night. If we get him pitching like that, we will be very fortunate
  17. Girardi and our D really f***ed that one up last night. Severino had no business going out for the seventh. Granted, good D would have gotten Sevy out of the inning. Betances blew that one last night, which isn't surprising since he's received almost no work during our slide.
  18. I am not in on that wager. The sox have the potential to have a better rotation and usually the best rotation leads to the best results.
  19. That sucks for Gleyber. Thank goodness its an injury with a high likelihood of recovery. For a position player, he should be back to full strength come April. He doesn't have to worry about throwing sliders. This hits our depth a bit, but it doesn't entirely mean that Headley is guaranteed to stay. We have another high end prospect in Tyler Wade who is likely ticketed to be a SS or 2b at the next level. While the kid doesn't have the power potential or the arm of Torres, he does have a solid hit/speed/patience tool. He's only 22 and he has a .322/.386/.462 triple slash in AAA with 20 steals. There is a chance they bring him up and shift Castro to third or just let Wade hang at 3b for the time being
  20. We had a lead in every game and prior to the final two games, we had a lead after the 5th in the prior 4 losses. Our suddenly stalwart pen has started leaking. Part of that had to do with Aroldis being out and then Warren. Part of it had to do with coming back to the mean a bit with Clippard. The good thing is that none of these injuries are considered to be serious. Warren was said to have potentially not needed the DL, but due to the rookie starting, they needed an extra body and needed the space. Regardless, a little home cooking should help. I also think the CC injury kinda started this fiasco. CC went down right after we burned Chad Green in order to elongate Tanaka. CC goes down and we need to burn pen in Anaheim without our suddenly very reliable long man in Green. This prompts us to overuse Warren and down he goes. With Chapman already out, we start relying on kids in a typical time that we'd otherwise use veterans. It didn't help that the next 5 starts from there were pretty pedestrian to terrible. Pineda was hit around, Severino had one awful inning, JMont wasn't sharp, Tanaka got home happy again and then Cessa couldn't get through the second while limiting damage. Today they're off. Tomorrow we start Pineda at home where he's been deadly. We should have Hicks and Sanchez back in their usual positions. We have a 7-8-9 bridge again with Aroldis back and with the limited use of Betances, we could even stretch him a bit if needed. The one thing I am hoping for is the promotion of Chance Adams. I know we bided our time with CC's replacement, but we now k ow he's missing a month and have seen Tanaka be entirely unreliable. I'd be intrigued to see how Chance could do in an extended role. After CC comes back, if Tanaka still sucks, I'd DL him and give Chance some run. We need to see what we have before the end of July. No need to spend prospect capital if we have the answers to our problems internally
  21. I need to stop posting positively about this team. I post a thread about how they rebuilt and BAM 5 game losing streak
  22. With Chapman and now Warren out, we've had to rely on some kids with promise, but no real experience. We've had a lead or been tied late in all four games of this losing streak and have blown them all. Clippard was responsible for one blown lead but the other three were the kids
  23. I forgot about McCann. Albert Abreu is a legit prospect with Joe Kelly level power (tops out at 101).
  24. We even got a damn good prospect for Beltran and somehow got an actual prospect for Nova
